TMT Country Leaders
Deloitte’s focus on primary research enables us to provide executives with industry specific business insights and understanding of emerging trends and opportunities in the TMT industry. TMT thought leadership covers a range of topics including mobility, social, cloud-based solutions, cyber security, device ownership, and evolving demand in the TMT sectors. We provide a forward-looking industry outlook over the next 12 to 18 months. The technology sector remains as opportunity rich and hazardous as ever, with few companies able to stay at the top of their sector in the long-term. The pace of progress remains relentless. The processors powering high-end smartphones double in speed every year; the range of new device categories always expands, with wearable computing offering major potential. Anticipating change in the tech sector is hazardous and bountiful. But standing still is not an option. Changing consumer behavior is driving transformative change across the Media sector. Deloitte is committed to assisting media firms pre-empt the changing market. Digital technology is underpinning this revolution and we have developed a rich perspective on transforming and repositioning organisations through leveraging digital technology in driving growth; business model optimization and adapting to the complexities of the external environment. We call this proposition the Digital Enterprise.Deloitte’s Global Telecom practice has become the centre of “all things mobile”. The mobile and wireless sub-sector continues to grow at a remarkable pace due to lower price points, greater device choices, higher connection speeds, and wider network coverage. With an endless stream of new smart devices coming to market and a thriving apps ecosystem, the future of telecoms looks bright. There are now more mobile devices on the planet than people, and the number of connected devices may be in the tens of billions by 2020.There are some dark clouds developing despite this explosive market growth. We see challenges in spectrum availability and network congestion. At the same time the continual risk of making big bets in fast shifting markets can create both extraordinary success and challenge for participants across the TMT sector. New business models, pressure of competition, and regulatory change are forcing traditional telecom companies to innovate, consolidate, and drive cost efficiencies through economies of scale. Deloitte’s trusted services in finance transformation and mergers and acquisitions are able to facilitate these activities. The Deloitte team is fully engaged to support the TMT industry in planning and delivering in this complex environment, bringing together the member firms’ global resources to help clients thrive. In short, Deloitte is energized to help you make 2014 a highly successful year for the TMT business.
Best regards

While “Digital” is the now the new norm, organizations continue to struggle to prioritize their efforts when it comes to planning and implementing solutions. One of Deloitte’s high tech clients had underinvested in digital and wanted to take a step forward by naming a new Chief Digital Officer and bringing together disparate teams across platforms. Deloitte assembled a ‘Digital Cabinet’ of experts to help executives define a three-year digital strategy, and worked with the client to formulate a new operating model for the business. The team also introduced portfolio management tools and analytics strategies which the client employed to develop responses to a complex and changing market environment. The partnership helped the firm shape its organization and propel new initiatives for digital engagement in B2B.
Digital Strategy and Analytics
A global high tech equipment manufacturer planned a new financial operations infrastructure, covering all parts of its business from research and development to production and customer services. The aim was to move from complex, disjointed legacy systems, which slowed processes and increased costs, to a streamlined and coherent global solution. Deloitte worked with the client on planning and forecasting to standardize and simplify its processes and systems architecture. At the end of the project the client achieved: integrated and standardised management and statutory reporting; external reporting to major capital market standards; robust project accounting and enhanced control of the contract business; a radically simplified information and data environment and a governance and organization model suitable to manage the new finance environment.
Finance Transformation for a Global High tech equipment manufacturer
A Deloitte technology client wanted to evaluate its ability to protect intellectual property, research and development and classified information against unauthorized disclosures. Deloitte concluded a three-month assessment, leading to 15 key conclusions across human resources, business processes and technology. A future-state gap analysis was used to produce to an actionable road map, designed to deliver a risk-based insider threat mitigation program. The findings and recommendations were integrated with the client’s security operations and supported its technical capabilities, employee training and internal rules, allowing the company to combat all sources of information leakage, from complacency to malicious intent.

Companies in the TMT sector are required to respond swiftly, boldly and effectively across borders. The fast pace of change is challenging geographically and technically, and companies that best understand the forces shaping the industry are most likely to thrive. Deloitte’s sector-specific solutions and market-leading insights aim to help industry participants formulate and deliver strategic and operational plans based on the most complete global available evidence.
“Managed retreat” is a common strategy for media companies with traditional portfolios, such as newspapers, magazines and radio broadcasts. Innovation and new perspectives evolve with new ownership as may occur with a managed retreat. Deloitte recently advised a foundation in Europe on the acquisition of a company with a traditional portfolio of newspapers, magazines, radio stations and websites. In a challenging environment, characterized by declining advertising and print revenues, the Deloitte team advised on the acquisition, restructuring and business transformation. The team provided integrated acquisition support. Following the acquisition, Deloitte was engaged to assist the company in its continued managed retreat with an integral improvement plan.
