Emily Manzo is a pianist, songwriter and vocalist that Time Out New
York considers “a uniquely protean artist who makes several scenes move.”
The New York Times has described her “attention to detail exceptional."
Emily has performed throughout the U.S. and Europe in concerts and
festivals of chamber music, experimental music and rock music. As a
vocalist and pianist, she has premiered the works of John Luther Adams,
Kyle Gann, Susie Ibarra, Matthew Welch, Aaron Siegel, Daniel Felsenfeld
and Jessica Pavone, among others. Her degrees were earned at the New
England Conservatory, the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Columbia
University where her teachers included Jean Stackhouse, Stephen Drury,
Lydia Frumkin, Jeanne Golan and Elizabeth DiFelice.
Emily currently resides in New York where she performs regularly as
a classical solo and chamber musician, as well as with her group, Christy &
Emily. C&E has releases on The Social Registry (US), Big Print (UK) and
Klangbad Records (DE), including their last two records, produced by Hans
Joachim Irmler of Faust.
Her vocal performance of Jessica Pavone’s song cycle was released in
2011 on Tzadik. In 2009 she recorded the complete works for soprano and
piano of Anton Webern with Jody Pou for the SHSK’H label, which received
much praise from critics in France. She can be heard as a guest on the
recordings of Oakley Hall (Merge) and Oneida (Jagjaguar), and has worked
with The Roots and Ren Harvieu.
She has a long-‐term collaboration with video artist Paul Rowley and
is a founding member of Till by Turning, an ensemble dedicated to
developing educational resources for new music. With funding from the
Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Foundation, Emily completed her recording
of the complete Chopin Preludes at Merkin Concert Hall in November 2012.
