This is our busy time of year. There are a lot of events almost every day so come out and participate. Our Scottish

night was a huge success again this year. Like the last couple years we sold out over a week in advance. That

happens a lot this time of year. Valentine’s Day tickets are on sale but you better get them now. The Auxiliary Fish Fry

sold out of fish last month. If there is an event coming up get your tickets early. This not only ensures you will be able

to attend, but it helps us know how many people we need to feed and seat.

February 20th we are having our anniversary party. It will be just over 35 years since VFW Post 10555 got our charter.

We have a HUGE event scheduled, the Commanding Officer of the Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City

Division, and the Panama City Beach Mayor will be in attendance. We will have representatives of each war since

World War II on a panel to discuss their involvement. There will be military displays, pictures, a slide presentation of our

post and a lot more. Our post will be open to the public on the 19, 20 and 21 February. We are hoping to have news

coverage as well. This is a big event for your post so please plan to attend.

On a not so pleasant note, our kitchen at the post is an absolute disgrace. We have a lot of organizations using the

kitchen now. We all do great meals and have a lot of fun, but by the end of the event we are tired. Please take the time

to clean the kitchen after your event. If you are tired after the event come back the next day and clean it up. Please try

to leave the kitchen a little cleaner than you found it.

January has been a really great month. We had the biggest attendance at the fish fry that we have had all year.

The Auxiliary catered the Dick Clark Night and that seemed to be a success. While we have approved male

members into the Auxiliary we initiated our first male member, Rink Bogel, at our last meeting. We have also

attained 100% membership and we are on our way to medallion. We need 3 more members, but we don't want

to stop there. We are currently planning the Snowflake Ball for February 5, 2016. This should be a great night

with dinner and Russ Chandler. All the profits go to the President's Special Project, Stop 22/K9s for Warriors.

All the money stays in Florida. The Post Anniversary Party will be February 20th at the Post and the Auxiliary

will be preparing the food. The District Meeting is February 13th at Sherman Ave. in Panama City. Anyone

wishing to attend should be at the Post by 9:45 am. so we can carpool. Spring is rapidly approaching and there

will be a need for volunteers for various projects both in the Post and outside the Post. We will be delivering

some schoolroom American Flags to Elementary Schools here on the beach.

Please remember that we are not about gossip and spreading rumors. This can be and is very hurtful and is in

no way helpful.. Our job is to provide help and support to those that need it.

Please be aware that there are a lot of phone scams going around. Some involve the IRS, fake computer techs

and calls regarding family members who are in trouble.

Our next meeting is February 16th at 6:00pm. Please make an effort to attend. If you need a ride please call

American Legion Update: Post 402 Commander Jim Bowers (scootin1923@yahoo.com)

January went by like a flash and here we are February 2016!! Events at your VFW Post 10555 and

American Legion 402 have been rockin’ and will continue to do the same for this month. A monthly calendar

is attached to the newsletter or you can pick one up when you come in for a cold beverage. If that does not

work for you please call 249-3025 and we will have the information.

Please remember that on all Sundays from 12 pm to 6 pm we have happy hour and on Wednesdays 2 pm to

6 pm. The Volunteers are sponsoring a Valentine’s Day dance on Sunday February 14 – tickets are on sale

at this time at the bar. Bingo on Friday nights and Saturday afternoons have been packed so come early

and get your favorite table and your favorite drink. Food is always served at these events.

I have said this before and I will say it again, please do not discuss post business at the bar, come to the

monthly general meetings!! Also tip the bartender on duty and they are in charge of the canteen when they

are working.

Hello again, fellow Legionnaires. We had a really good start to 2016; our membership stands at 70

members and still growing. The Russ Chandler event last month was a success, thank you volunteers

that helped make it happen. Our BIG event for February is the Veteran Health Screening on the 13th.

It will be held from 1100-1600 at the Post. We are hoping for a good turnout. All screening will be free

to veterans. See the flyer on the Post 402 Facebook page for more information. Other events for the

Legion entities for this month are: General membership meeting, SAL meeting and Riders meeting on

the 1st; SAL Bingo on the 6th; Legion Dinner on the 26th; and the SAL sponsored Chili cook-off on the

28th. We are hoping our Ladies Auxiliary will be up and running by the end of the month. Post 402 is

growing; let’s keep up our membership work. I am asking again for your participation in running your

Post. We need better attendance at our meetings and during events held each month. Don’t forget we

will start our nomination and election for the coming year in April. Please think of our Legion Board as

a way to honor your veteran.

Remember to keep our military and veterans in your hearts. Thank you and God Bless

I hope you had great holidays and are enjoying another Florida winter. Sure beats the heavy

snows the people up north are getting. I want to thank the volunteers that took the time to go

through the bingo dabber box to weed out all the nearly empty dabbers and also to combine

those that were low. Thank you very much, that was great!! Sometimes, the few of us that

actively help out at the VFW can't check everything, so the help was greatly appreciated. Since

then, we've purchased six dozen new dabbers and they are in the box ready for use. Also, by the

time you read this, the pull tab machine will have had those two pesky columns fixed so all the

pull tab players can play to their heart's content. And the post thanks them very much. Please

come out and patronize our Post; visit with an old friend and have a beverage that is most

likely the cheapest on the beach!
