This New Year, the Environmental Management Association of Singapore (EMAS) is pleased to welcome back our old members, as well as to extend a warm welcome to new members who

Indeed, we are most delighted to see EMAS membership growing, and look forward to working with our new members for the common interests of the environmental health industry. In
addition, EMAS has also approached other companies like NTUC Learning Hub and CBLD who have been approached as critical training partners to support the professionalism of the
industry but both have cite at this stage budget constraints. Hopefully with the anticipated downturn, as more people get trained, they will find some resources to support the association and try and work with the industry in a more holistic manner. Perhaps EMAS members who work
with them for training can assist to convey the benefits and the importance of their involvement with the association.
Nonetheless, we hope that all existing EMAS members will keep up our efforts to grow and sustain the association, to take on issues of concern for members and the industry at large. In
this New Year, our resolution is to grow in membership, and to continue our drive to engage the government regulatory bodies and accreditation bodies to bring about new initiatives for the

industry and to better help our members cope with challenges and grow in a sustainable manner
First off the bat, we would like to give all members an update from the discussion with NEA on Accreditation Lunch : Details will come from Foo Meng and if it does not, send a chaser on e-
mail to him Next, we would like to share with all, details of the EMAS Bowling Tournament 2012! This event
aims to reach out to staff from member companies, and we hope that all participants can bond and develop friendships over the course of the friendly tournament. The tournament
details are given as follows: 19 Feb 2012, Sunday, 12.30pm – 6pm Civil Service Club (TO BE CONFIRMED)
We hope that all members will take the time out to engage their staff with this event. There will be attractive trophies for the winners, and it is a once in the lifetime opportunity to play against teams from various government regulatory bodies, who have been approached to participate
in this friendly event as well.
Our next announcement is that EMAS has been invited to serve as a member to the Tripartite Advisory Group that is being set up to suggest a set of new accreditation criteria relating to employment terms and standards for the cleaning sector. The Advisory Group led by NEA and
MOM will comprise representatives from NEA, MOM, MOF, EMAS, Union, employers and employees and will also consult service buyers and providers. EMAS hopes that through this
participation, we will get a chance to help shape the coming accreditation criteria for companies in our industry.
Following that, we would also like to inform members of upcoming events slated to be held jointly with NEA, for the benefit of the association. This year, NEA will be taking a greater involvement with EMAS and it is our hope that our association will continue to grow with NEA’s
help. The upcoming events are:

• State the safety requirements under the Workplace Safety and Health Act and the Code of Practice for Working safely at Height related to MEWP devices.
• Carry out a Pre-start Inspection of the MEWP • State Factors Affecting Stability of the MEWPIdentify common hazards during
traveling, setup, operation, and parking of the MEWP and their control measures.
• Conduct a Workplace InspectionState the Functions of all MEWP’s controls, including emergency controls and emergency procedures.
• Use Personal protective Equipment appropriate to the task, worksite and
environment. • Operate the MEWP safely as demonstrated in the hands on evaluation and
assessment.
Target Audience
This course is designed for anyone that will use or operate a boom lift.
Assumed Skills & Knowledge

• Employability Skills System (ESS) including Workplace Literacy & Numberacy Level 3 & above or equivalent
• At least 18 years of age
• Physically fit with no handicap • No problem with eyesight or hearing • Not afraid of height
NOTE: It is compulsory for trainees to bring along their own safety shoes and safety helmet
Course Duration & Attendance
8-Hours total including 2-hours of assessment. 100% attendance is required. Language
