Sixth Form Careers Fair - professionals needed!

In March we will be running a Careers Fair to provide our students with a greater insight into the world of work and possible career paths. In previous years, this event has been hugely successful due to the extensive range of experience that we are able to draw on across our wider school community. If you, or anyone you know, would be willing to attend the event to represent your career or field, I would be very grateful. The event will run from 6pm - 8pm on 20th or 21st March and our guest professionals will all have a table in the hall where students can approach them to discuss their chosen field. If you would be willing to help, could you please email Jayshree Kashap at [email protected], stating your career and whether you would be available on 20th March, 21st of March or both. Ms Caray, Head of Sixth Form Music Tuition Lessons Notice Music tuition lessons can commence from Monday September 17th and your child will have 15 lessons up until February half term. You should be emailed your child’s first lesson date and time in the next week. Please make sure this time is recorded in your child’s planner and remind your child to attend on the day. If your child’s lesson is during am or pm registration (8:30 and 3pm), they should sign in at reception. All lessons are taught in the numbered practice rooms in F block. Steel pan lessons are in F04. You will receive a green home learning lesson book which your child should be using and 1 formal report in December to feedback on progress. If your child is bringing an instrument to school, please make sure they label their full name on the case. They can store it in one of the cupboards in F block by the music and drama rooms. They should take their instrument home on the same day of their lesson/club. If there is an issue with a lesson, you must give 48 hours notice if you need to cancel or change. Please make sure all lesson time and dates are recorded in your child’s planner. Thank you. Any queries, please contact me at [email protected]. Ms Wickens, Head of Music MFL Equipment Yr 7 Year 7 students are currently doing the first of their 3 language tasters. They have each been given a booklet used in class, for homework and for vocabulary learning. They must bring their booklets to every lesson. If they have lost the booklet they must see their Languages teacher to replace it. Yr8 and Yr9 Students in years 8 and 9 are continuing to use the workbooks and the dictionary they purchased in Year7. They need to bring their exercise book, dictionary and workbook to every lesson in a protective plastic sleeve. If they have lost any of the items, please write a note to the class teacher who will organise for you to purchase replacements. Ms Kahan, Head of MFL

English Faculty Recommends

Following sell-out seasons in 2012, 2013 and 2016 and critical and audience acclaim, Simon Callow returns in this much-lauded production of A Christmas Carol, playing at the Arts Theatre West End for a strictly limited season from 8 December. Intensely dramatic and profoundly heart-warming, A Christmas Carol is one of the greatest ghost stories ever written. This is storytelling at its very finest. Using the adaptation Dickens made for his own public performances, Simon Callow and director and designer Tom Cairns have conjured up a moving, funny and fast-paced one-man theatrical spectacular that will leave you with a warm festive glow. Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol is one of the most beloved books in the English language and has become a classic Christmas tale for generations of grown-ups and children alike. Brought to life by the magnificent Simon Callow, this is a Christmas must see for 8 to 108-year olds! Visit https://artstheatrewestend.co.uk/ to book tickets. Ms Daniel, KS5 English Co-ordinator Bookbuzz is coming to EPHS! On Monday 24th September, all of our new Year 7s will attend the launch of this year’s Bookbuzz scheme. Bookbuzz is a national scheme run by the children’s literacy charity Booktrust and one of the ways we encourage reading for pleasure at EPHS. The aim of Bookbuzz is to inspire a love of reading in children who have just arrived in high school and to offer them a choice of books to start them on their reading journey in their new school. On Monday, they will hear extracts from 12 new and exciting books and will be able to choose one to keep for themselves. We hope they will share their choices with you. Books will be delivered to school once all orders have been received and more information about how you can support your child’s reading at home will follow. Ms Martino, Librarian
