    QUESTION

  • 7/26/2019 Eli Brumbaugh ('13) process book

    3/46

How can an app allow the social

media user to curate and organize

    their mobile experiencethrough an

intelligent algorithm paired with highlycustomizable user controls in which

the user views only the content that

    matters most to themfrom people

    they care the most about?

    WHY?

  • 7/26/2019 Eli Brumbaugh ('13) process book

    5/46

I created this project because of my strong intrest

in UX, UI, and VD for mobile and web based platforms.

I wanted a chance to create a better user experience forsomething we all interact with on a daily basis such as

    social media.

The amount of online content created by we as

individuals and those we interact with is expandingexponentially. It is becoming more difcult to navigate

    and curate that content.

This theoretical app project will allow me to explore

the possibilities that could help better tailor thatcontent to the user some day, and also help me better

educate myself in two felds I am very passionate

    about: People and Technology.

Allows for the creation of algorithm based andpersonally tailored lists. Neglects content created or

    shared by those connections.

Allows for the group messaging or e-mailing to

existing contacts based on list. Neglects the abilityto share anything other than a text based note.

Allows for the integration of multiple social networksinto the app. Neglects the ability to interact with the

content on those networks. Has to log in each time.

    RESEARCH

    OUTCOME

  • 7/26/2019 Eli Brumbaugh ('13) process book

    16/46

Create a personal survey of mysocial networking experience.

    Where am I overwhelmed?

    What content matters most to

    me?

What would I do differentlypersonally? As a designer myneeds are different.

Focus on the users needs not myown assumptions.

Creating a survey to pinpointwhat content matters most to thesocial networking user.

Survey the usual paths/features that thesocial media app user uses daily?

How would they group their friendstogether?

How would they group their socialnetworks together?

What kind of options would they like tosee?

What kind of options would they assumewould be there? - Blind questions /Stickies game! - Focus on this later on.

    NEW

    QUESTIONS

  • 7/26/2019 Eli Brumbaugh ('13) process book

    17/46

We can reward power social media users by giving them a better curated samplingbecause they have more information in which we can pull the content prole

    from!

More Networks = Clearer Picture of that User!

Key things this app has to accomplish:

Cut through the clutter! Discover the content that truly matters! Share Content effectively! - Youre able to target just those groups of people who

you know care the most about the content youre sharing with them.

Get more enjoyment from using it vs competitors! - Open 1 app instead of 8.

    REALIZATIONS

    18/46

    RESEARCHAUDIENCE

User Centric Design - Focus on the wants and needs of the users based on my research. Test thevalidity of my DESIGN assumptions!

Responsive Design - Would allow for use across multiple platforms. ie. iPhone, iPad, WindowsPhone, etc.

Flat / Vector Design Standards - Moving into 2013, ideally dropping skuemorphic design wouldallow for a more neutral non-iOS centric style.
