If I could reach form pole to pole
Or grasp the ocean with my span
I must be measured by my soul
The mind’s the standard of the man.
Inspired by the iconic David Lynch film and following a critically acclaimed launch at Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the tale of the elephant man returns in a stunning new stage adaptation. With numerous award nominations, Elephant Man tells the true story of the fabled Joseph Merrick in a production that is ‘profoundly unforgettable’, ‘uplifting’, and ‘beautiful’.
Abandoned as a child, the horribly deformed Joseph, played with “startling subtlety” by Daniel Chrisostomou, survives as a freak-show attraction and medical marvel. But as he sits silently under the stares of London’s high society, it is the world around him that appears grotesque.
Nominated for an Amnesty Freedom of Expression Award, Elephant Man will be touring nationally in Autumn 2014 following a sell out run at Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Age guidance: 12+ As well as targeting our physical theatre following, we’ll be using the iconic nature of this piece to attract more mainstream and new-writing audiences. Given past successes we also expect to bring in young audiences in the 20-30 age bracket, particularly those with an interest in physical or experimental theatre. In our specific targeting of groups and demographics, we’ll focus on: • Theatre studies students – students interested in theatre craft,
movement, physical theatre, and ensemble work (creating original theatre is a key part of the A-level Theatre). We are offering parallel workshops given by leading industry professionals alongside the show, and hope to use these to encourage engagement with a young theatre and student audience.
• Secondary school and college/university students. • Drama and youth group members. • New writing audiences. We welcome collaboration with local venues and their outreach teams, and will work to make information on the show readily available to potential audiences as well as theatre staff. The company has been previously very successful in bringing in audiences, and has had a number of sell-out runs at Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
