LAST WEEK - July 19, 2019 – Decker Ploehn; City of Bettendorf

Sixty attended on Friday, including Naples, FL Rotarian, Duncan Cameron. John Maxwell promoted the Corn Boil and encouraged members to sign up. Ryan Varner asked for volunteers for the August 17 Mud Run. Jeff Ashcraft said the order for the Rotary polos will go in on Monday. Jan Touney’s grandkids were visiting from Kentucky and she was proud to take them to the Inspiration Play Zone at Sheridan Meadows, that Grandma helped build. She gave $10 to congratulate Jeremy on his District Grant ap-plication to add some musical instruments to the play zone. John Maxwell was the sergeant and collected $41 in fines. He fined Josie for being on the Celebration Belle commercial on TV and Brian Duffy for his marriage and honeymoon in Italy.

Decker Ploehn, City Administrator for the City of Bettendorf, gave a lot of facts and figures about everything going on in the Quad Cities. He recently oversaw the player services for the John Deere Classic and personally chaper-oned the winner. Interstate 74 is seven months behind on construction. The west bound span should be open in May of 2020. The other span should open in 2021 and existing (old) spans will come down in 2022. He gave a lot of stats about the Bett Plex. It is very successful! A personal contribution of $50 million and the City of Bettendorf chipped in $10 million, to build the sports complex and event center. Decker thinks that all the towns in the Quad City area contribute to the huge success of the area and helps draw all the wonderful events to the area. BIX is a world class event and it is wonderful that the PGA tournament has been coming to the QC for 49 years.

The 4 Way Test Of the things we THINK SAY or DO

1. Is it the TRUTH?

2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?

3. Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
