Welcome to the second Elder Charolais Farm bull sale. It really is an exciting time in thecattle business. Who knew a year ago where the markets would be today? If you havesat in any auction market in the last six months you will know that the crossbred calvesand in particular the Charcross calves have been paying a dividend to the seller. Now isthe time to improve your calves as much as possible with quality herdbulls. You canafford to buy a better bull and owe it to your future to do it.

The Elder family, which now has the 4th generation working with purebred Charolaiscattle, are committed to the breed and the cattle industry. Not only do they have a great Charolais herd but also run acommercial herd that helps them stay in tune with the cow/calf operator they sell bulls to.

They have never strived to raise show cattle but on the show road last fall their string did very well. This set of bulls isthe best top to bottom that I have seen in their pen and I have been looking at their pen for many years. Thehomegrown sire Wahkamo has really done a great job adding the thickness and top so desired in the feedlot andpacking industry. He complimented the already solid sires Silverado and Kaboom the calving ease bull.

temperatures as we write this, it doesn’t seem possible that it would be this timeof year. Our family would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you thatsupported our 1st bull sale as well as those that purchased bulls from us prior.You have contributed to our confidence in what we are doing in the Charolaisbreed. The declining numbers in the cow herds across the country encouragedus to expand our commercial herd to put more Charcross calves on the market. Itcannot be repeated enough to say “Now is a great time to be in the cattlebusiness,” and certainly if you are using Charolais bulls.We are excited about the group of bulls we are offering this year. We believe wehave a strong herdsire collection that put together the bulls you see in thiscatalogue. They offer breeders the requirements to a successful calving program.They include solid genetics, calving ease (without losing performance), goodscrotal development, hair, good feet, red factor and white, polled or horned, andsomething we all want to work with, good dispositions. These bulls are pail fedand easy to work around. Each year we work to implement changes to meet thedemands of you, the producers, and we hope all of you can find something thatwill work in your herd. It is our hope that we can contribute in a positive way toyour bottom line when it comes to your calf crop.

For those of you not familiar with our sale, it has been our decision to operate this sale right at the farm and use a PowerPoint display. It will be less stress for the animals and the people. There will be no animals brought through the ring duringthe sale. They will be on display in pens in front of the barn for you to walk through prior to the sale. You are also invited tocome to the yard any time before the sale to go through the bull pen at your convenience. Coffee is always on and visitors are always welcome. Bidders unable to attend the sale mayphone their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer or specialrepresentatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale. Disputes: Bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made,the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid.The auctioneer’s decision is final. Announcements: Announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over printedmatter in the catalogue. Buyers are cautioned to pay close attention toannouncements. Purchaser’s Risk: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will becared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. All animals leftwith the seller must be insured. Certificate of Registration: Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Charolais Association. Acertificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer afterpayment has been made. Delivery: Assistance will be given in making delivery after the sale. The purchaser agreesshipping arrangements will be at the convenience of the seller, but will be assoon as practical after the sale, at the buyer’s risk. Breeder Guarantee - Bulls: Should any bull fourteen months of age or over, fail to prove a breeder afterbeing used on cows known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported inwriting to the seller within six months following the date of purchase or sixmonths after the bull has reached fourteen months of age. The seller has theright and privilege of six months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee isgiven that semen collected from the bull will freeze. Exception Guarantee: In case where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproductivetechniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void. The seller is notresponsible for damage caused by foreign bodies after the animal has been soldor for sickness not apparent at sale time. In no event shall the seller beresponsible for more than the purchase price. Accidents: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort ofbuyers, neither the sale manager, auctioneer, or sellers assume any responsibilityand disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accident or loss ofproperty. By Livestock is only acting as a medium between the buyer and sellerand is not responsible for failure on the part of either party to live up to theirobligations; or for the truth of any warrantees or representations, expressed orimplied. By Livestock assumes no obligation to enforce or collect moniesbetween parties. By Livestock assumes no responsibility for any credit extendedby the seller to the buyer. Any legal action taken in exceptional cases must bebetween the buyer and the seller. The buyer must look to the seller for fulfilmentof all guarantees and representations.
