NETCO’s First Elcorock Project Begins! NETCO has begun work on the first large scale ElcoRock project in the U.S. at White Cliffs Country Club in Plymouth, MA. The project involves the installation of 2.5 cubic meter geo-synthetic containers. Each container weighs approximately 7 tons. The ElcoRock containers are being installed using a pumped/gravity fed water/sand slurry system. ElcoRock containers are made from an absorbant, geo-synthetic material and are constructed on site, on the sloping coastal bank face. The slope will allow wave energy to run up the face of the installation and be dissipated, which will reduce reflected wave energy. A sand veneer cover will be placed over the installation and beach grass planted. The ElcoRock containers were imported from Australia where the system has been in use for more than 15 years. Owners at White Cliff Country Club choose the ElcoRock for the project based on performance and installation data that has been accumulated since the system was initially used. An added feature of ElcoRock is that the material is very strong, therefore the containers are resistant to damage resulting from vandalism and punctures from wave born debris.
