Stella was upset. Forseveral weeks she had beenlooking forward to going tothe beach with her family andfriends, and now this! She

watched her younger sister,Priscilla, scamper to the backof the van to help unload, andher irritation grew. Priscillaalways manages to be cheerfulabout everything!

Stella grabbed her sweater,shoved the beach toys into thebag, and headed toward thesand. A cool wind waswhipping up the waves, andStella was reminded of foamymilk on top of hot cocoa. Itwould be fun to swim in a seaof chocolate milk, shethought. But then sheremembered the irritationshed been feeling before and

concluded, The dumb wind

Estela estaba molesta. Llevabavarias semanas ilusionada conirse a la playa con su familia yunos amigos, y justo sucedeesto! Al ver a Tala, su hermana

menor, corretear hacia el fondode la camioneta para ayudar adescargar, se enoj an ms.Tala siempre se las arregla para

estar de buen humor!Estela tom su abrigo, meti

los juguetes de playa en la bolsay se dirigi hacia la arena. Unviento fro azotaba las olas, cosaque record a Estela de laespuma que forma la lecheencima del chocolate caliente.

Sera divertido nadar en un marde leche chocolatada, pens.Pero despus record lairritacin que senta y dio riendasuelta a sus pensamientos:Detesto el viento y las olas. Por

su culpa ya no podremos nadar,

Stella plopped herself downon the sand, while everyoneelse quickly became absorbedwith other activities. Joel,Priscilla, and Dina wereplaying an impromptu gameof catch, and David wasexamining a weather-beaten

log for signs of life in itscrevices.

Soon the other childrenhappily took off to findsupplies to build a fort madeof towels and bamboo rods

where they could eat and playand be protected from theweather. Stella, still seated,continued to shuffle sandthrough her toes, and herglumness increased. After a

few minutes of staring at hertoes, she pulled her legstoward her, rested her headon her knees, and drifted offto sleep.

Stella was in a dark cave,

walking along a path lit only

by the light that came in

un tronco desgastado por elclima y los elementos, en buscade alguna seal de vida entre susrecovecos.

Poco despus todos los niossalieron en busca de lo necesario

para construir un fuerte contoallas y palos de bamb, para

jugar y protegerse del clima.Estela se qued sentadaremoviendo la arena con losdedos de los pies. Cada vez se

pona ms malhumorada. Trasunos minutos de mirarsefijamente los dedos de los pies,acerc las piernas al cuerpo,descans la cabeza sobre lasrodillas y se qued dormida.

Estela se encontraba en una

caverna oscura, caminando por

through the mouth of the

cave. The farther into the

cave she went, the less she

could make out her

surroundings. In the distance

she spotted a tiny, flickeringlight.

As she neared the light,

she discovered it was a little

firefly sitting on a rock. Next

to the rock was a small glass

lantern on a long pole.

Stella opened a small door

on the side of the lantern and

placed the firefly inside.

Immediately the entire cave

was lit with a beautiful,

bright light.

apertura de la cueva. Cuanto ms

se internaba en la cueva, menos

vea lo que la rodeaba. Vislumbr a

la distancia una diminuta lucecitaque parpadeaba.

Al acercarse a la luz, descubri

que se trataba de una lucirnaga

que se haba posado en una roca.

Junto a la roca haba un farol de

vidrio sostenido por un palo largo.

Estela abri la puertita que

haba en el farol y coloc la

lucirnaga en su interior. De

inmediato, toda la cueva se ilumin

con una hermosa luz radiante.

The room was filled with

beautiful jewels, which

covered the rocks and floor

of the cave, as well as

beautiful paintings and

tapestries hanging on the

cave walls. Stella felt happy

and excited as she picked

up one of the jewels.

El lugar estaba repleto de

hermosas joyas que

adornaban las rocas y el

suelo de la caverna. En sus

paredes colgaban bellos

cuadros y tapices. Estela se

sinti feliz y emocionada al

tomar una de las joyas.

Stella woke up just as asoccer ball hit her in theback. Joel! she yelled,

and laughed, as shepicked up the ball and

went running after him.The kids kicked the ballaround the sand fornearly an hour.Exhausted, they threwthemselves down on the

beach near their fort,and began looking forshapes in the clouds.

Estela despert justocuando sinti un

pelotazo en la espalda.Jos! le gritrindose. Enseguidarecogi la pelota defutbol y corri tras l.Los nios siguieron

jugando a la pelotadurante casi una hora.Agotados, se echaronboca arriba en la playacerca del fuerte quehaban construido y

comenzaron a identificarformas en las nubes.

At first Stella had thoughtshed have a hard time

coming up with more than a

couple of things to thankJesus for, and now shecouldnt stop!

Suddenly, she noticedsomething special hadhappened.The wind hadstopped. The ocean was nowcalm. She looked up and sawthat the clouds were partingand the sky was bright andblue.

Hurray! Well get to swim

after all! Stella did a wobbly

cartwheel that landed her onher bottom instead of herfeet. She laughed, brushedoff the sand, and then ranback to the others, to makesure that they noticed the

improvement in the weathertoo.

de un par de cosas por queagradecer a Jess, y resultaque ahora ya no poda parar!

De pronto, se dio cuenta deque haba ocurrido algo especial:el viento haba parado. El ocanose haba calmado. Mir hacia elcielo y advirti que las nubesestaban despejndose y que elcielo estaba radiante y azul.

Ypiiii! Parece quepodremos meternos al agua,despus de todo! Estela dio una

voltereta en la arena y caysobre su trasero en lugar desobre los pies. Se ri, se sacudila arena con las manos y corride vuelta a donde se encontrabanlos dems, para asegurarse de

que se haban dado cuenta deque el clima haba mejorado.

The great thing about it, shethought, is how I becamehappy even before I knew it

would be the perfect beach

day. It doesnt matter whats

happening around me, I can

still focus on the joy and light

Jesus has put in my heart.

And on top of that, Jesus

often works things out for me

to have those things I wanted.

And that just adds to thehappiness!
