Australian Carbon Tax Regime

31.01.2014 EIS Olympic Dam Expansion Project in Australia 5

• It set a fixed carbon tax of A$23 ($23.78) per tonne since July 2012

• Then move to an Emissions Trading Scheme from July 2015.– Companies involved will need a permit for every tonne of carbon they emit.

• The carbon price = cost on every tonne of carbon emitted

• Companies have financial incentive to reduce pollution, Australia can reach its goal to cut emissions by 5% of 2000 levels by 2020.
