What is Rotary

Eighth Grade Leadership?

Rotary Eighth Grade Leadership (Rotary

EGL) is a professionally delivered three day in-

tensive leadership training seminar conducted

by Rotary.

The purpose of the project is to provide high

quality leadership training, with a strong empha-

sis on ethics, to selected 8th grade students who

have demonstrated leadership abilities.

Students are selected for participation by their

school principals. Graduates are encouraged to

assume leadership roles as they return to their

schools and move on to high school.

The Rotary clubs have for years been offering

high quality, professional leadership training for

high school juniors who have demonstrated

leadership talent during their high school years.

This is an opportunity to bring many of the bene-

fits of RYLA to middle school students as they

prepare for transition to high school and beyond.

Choices made during this period of life often

have a large impact on their future.

During the Rotary EGL program, you will:

Learn how to be an effective leader in groups.

Explore the advantages of complimentary skills in team building.

Learn how to organize and conduct youth activities and community service projects.

Discuss creative approaches for resolving family, social and professional conflicts

Participate in character building programs on a professionally administered ropes course.

Rotary is one of the largest international

service organizations, with some 29,000

clubs in over 160 countries. Its members

are dedicated to humanitarianism service,

high ethical standards in business and

professional life, and the promotion of

world understanding and peace.

One of the goals in Rotary is to help

young people develop their leadership

abilities and self-confidence to the fullest.

To accomplish that goal, Rotary clubs

prepare thousands of young leaders

through Rotary Youth Leadership Awards

(RYLA) programs each year. RYLA

events are organized by Rotarians who

are business and professional achievers.

Rotary clubs also sponsor other, compli-

mentary programs for young people. They

include Rotaract (a service club for young

adults), Interact (A service club for secon-

dary school students), Youth Exchange (a

chance to live and study abroad), and

Ambassadorial Scholarships (for univer-

sity or post-university study abroad).
