Jesus told a parable about the rich man who stored up all his wealth in order to eat, drink and be merry. God told him, “You fool, this night your life will be demanded of you.” In this way Jesus encouraged people to grow rich, not for themselves, but in God’s sight.

A parishioner has reported receiving a telephone message purporting to be from St. Eulalia Parish advising that her offering payment was in arrears and leaving the number 781-729-1378 (a discon-nected number) to call and arrange payment. This is a fraudulent call. Please do not respond to it as we do not dun for payments, nor would we ask for money or gift cards to be sent to “someone in need,” which is another common ploy. There are a lot of these spam calls being made. If you receive such a call, please jot down the infor-mation as best you can, call our office and relay it, and call the police department to report it.

WHAT IS A CURSILLO? (Pronounced: cur-SEE-yo) The Cursillo (meaning, “short course”) is an invita-tion for you to experience the love of Jesus Christ on a personal level and to bring this love and joy into your daily life. At the Saint Basil Salvatorian Center, 30 East St. in Methuen, MA, Cursillo is open to Christians at least 21 years of age. The Cursillo begins on Thurs-day evening and concludes on Sunday evening. During the weekend, you will hear talks given by a team of lay people and spiritual directors. You will have the opportunity to participate in small table discussions, prayer, Mass, and great meals. Cursillo weekends are usually held on the first weekend of the month. For men, the Cursillo is held in October, December, February, and April. For women, the Cursillo is held in November, January, March, May, and June. For married couples, it is recommended that husband attend first. If you have questions and are interested, please contact Father John for more information. Fr. John will be one of the spiritual directors on the December Men’s Weekend. He would appre-ciate having some of the men of the parish share the weekend with him. The dates are Thursday evening, December 5, through Sunday evening, December 8.

BIBLE STUDY The St. Eulalia Thursday Evening Bible Study class will begin on Thursday, September 12, from 7:00PM-8:30PM and will continue on Thursdays for ten weeks in the McGann Conference Room. The program for this fall semester will be on St. Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians, This program will focus on St. Paul’s interactions with the Chris-tian communities there. Cost for the program will be $35.00 and must be paid at the time you make a formal reservation with the parish office. The deadline for reservations and payment is August 25

BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP Saint Eulalia Parish is offering a Bereavement Sup-port Group which will meet in the Parish Center off

the parking lot for six consecutive Tuesday eve-nings from 6:00-7:30PM beginning Tuesday, Sep-tember 10 and continuing through October 8, 2019.

Topics will include an overview of the bereavement process, signs and symptoms of grief, feelings asso-ciated with bereavement, and the uniqueness of each person’s grief. Participants will have the op-portunity if they’re so inclined to share their stories with one another in a caring and supportive atmos-phere. Since we have limited space, please pre-register by September 3rd. There is no fee, but a voluntary donation is appreciated to cover cost of materi-als. As the summer days roll by, we connect with family, nature, perhaps visit new places or our favorite haunts of the past. It is a time of renewal, refreshment and at times, excitement. One aspect of this time is looking forward to doing “nothing”. Yet, when I analyze my own free time, I often find myself unable to “decouple” from my pre-vacation world.

Can I manage without the cell phone, checking my email daily, worrying if someone did something I asked them to do, is that new customer doing OK with the product I just sold them? The questions seem to rise out of no-where, so what should I do about them?

My son came to visit us this weekend, he is a busy executive with a lot of responsibilities; he also knows work/life balance is important, so ensures his family gets all the attention they need during the vacation days. Yet, as the evening wears on, and supper is finished, I find him working on the computer till the wee hours dealing with the problems he knows are not being dealt with while he is “out”. Rather than spend time at night worrying about them, he fixes them and then returns to bed with his family.

How many of us fall into the same category? We have the responsibility to do certain things for our working lives, yet cannot seem to disengage fully when we have that precious commodity. Time off from work!

I guess we can deal with these problems in two different ways. One is to look for that work/life balance that keeps us sane and at peace with the world, and the second is to meet the responsibilities we have at work and home.

The key word in all of this is peace, we must search for a way find this peace in our lives; and we all know where this solution lies. Let is call on God for help in finding peace and solutions to the turmoil often present in our over busy lives; and take steps to notice his presence in all around us while on vacation this summer.
