EIGHTEENTH NATIONAL CONGRESS ON CORROSION CONTROL

CSIR- Central Electrochemical Research Institute (CECRI)

GAIL (India) Limited

CSIR-CECRI is one of the pioneering research organisations belonging to CSIR and is the largest electrochemical laboratory in the world,

engaged in Research & Development in all the facets of Electrochemical Science and Technology. CSIR-CECRI covers a gamut of fields

including Batteries and Fuel Cells, Corrosion Science and Engineering, Electrochemical Instrumentation, Electrochemical Materials

Science, Electrochemical Pollution Control, Electrodics and Electrocatalysis, Electrohydrometallurgy, Electro-pyrometallurgy, Functional

Materials, Industrial Metal Finishing and Nanoscale Electrochemistry.

CSIR-CECRI assists the Indian industry by conducting surveys and undertaking

consultancy projects. The institute also conducts short-term refresher courses for

the benefit of the industries and academia. As part of its human resource

development programme, CSIR-CECRI runs Anna University's B.Tech course in

Chemical & Electrochemical Engineering. Researchers from this part of the country

make good use of the excellent library as well as the state-of-the-art analytical and

characterization facilities at the institute. CSIR-CECRI also organizes national and

international conferences for dissemination of scientific knowledge. CSIR-CECRI is

alive to societal obligations and participates in such activities as entrepreneur

development and CSIR's youth development programme. CSIR-CECRI is recipient of

several technology awards for its telling service to Indian industry.

GAIL started in 1984 as a single pipeline project company and has today emerged as an integrated natural gas company with activities

spread across the entire value chain – from gas transportation and marketing to processing for Liquid Hydrocarbons and polymers,

pioneering CGD in the country, gas sourcing including signing a first-of-its-kind R-LNG deal with Cheniere, USA and being the first PSU to

buy acreage in Shale Gas in the US. GAIL has a LNG Terminal at Dabhol as owner's engineer and is the operator of the terminal. GAIL (India)

Limited, India's largest natural gas company has been accorded the Maharatna status by the Government of India.

GAIL owns and operates a gas based integrated petrochemical plant at Pata, Uttar Pradesh with a capacity of producing 440,000 TPA of

Ethylene and Polymers i.e. HDPE and LLDPE. Capacity expansion of the plant to 900,000 TPA is under advance stage of mechanical

completion. GAIL is setting up a 280,000 TPA Petrochemical Complex at Lepetkata, Dibrugarh, Assam through a Joint Venture

Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited is also on the commissioning stage. GAIL has also taken 15.5 % equity in OPaL which is setting

up a greenfield petrochemical project at Dahej with a capacity of 1.1. MMTPA ethylene. As far as the financials of the Company for the

year 2014-15, GAIL has registered a Turnover (net of excise duty) of Rs. 56,569 crore. The Gross Margin during 2014-15 stood at Rs. 5,557

crore. The Profit Before Tax during the year was Rs. 4,284 crore. The Profit After Tax in 2014-15 was Rs. 3,039 crore.

its control is functional at the premises of CSIR-CECRI since 1990. NCCI organizes National Congress on Corrosion Control periodically,

covering all aspects of Corrosion Science and Engineering, at important places, for enlightening and increasing the awareness about

corrosion of metals and appropriate remedial measures to control corrosion. There has been overwhelming response from various

sectors for the earlier Seventeen congresses held at Karaikudi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Kochi, Goa,

Madurai, Vadodara, Visakhapatnam and Mangalore.
