Artisan’s Lifestyle and Work• What work did they do in Ancient Egypt?

They made many arts and crafts such as jewelry, furniture, paintings, fabric, beaded clothing, perfume.

• What tools did the stone carvers use? Why was their work so difficult?They used stone tools and copper chisels. They had to pound the shapes out of rocks such as dolerite and granite. They smoothed and polished with quarts sand.

• Did artisans get the credit from the upper class for the work they did?The artisans weren’t credited for their work. They barely even got to sign their name on their work.

• What were the living conditions like for most artisans?They usually were rectangular and barely 10 yards long.

Their Part in Tombs

Stone carvers helped equip the tomb with artwork and highly detailed wall engravings to honor the dead. They also created the sarcophagus.

Where They are on the Social Pyramid

The artisans are under scribes and above peasants. This is because they are mostly not appreciated even though they created almost everything and assisted in tomb building in Egypt. They also helped make Egypt beautiful a very powerful trade port and country.
