Italian schools have a significant information gap with respect to schools in the rest of Europe.

“Innovascuola”

The MIUR project “The Digital School” has two phases. The first,

proposed in January 2009, has already started with the introduction of

“Interactive multimedia blackboards (LIM)”. The second phase, Cl@ssi

2.0 foresees the use of the ICTs in schools.

The “Classmate” project encourages students in middle school to use mini

laptops for learning support; the Government gives 150 euro incentives

for their purchase.

“Servizi scuola-

famiglia via web”

Schools can download learning materials for teaching (from the Ministero

dei Beni Culturali and also from Treccani and Motta Editors) from the

Innovascuola portal, recently enriched with new collaborative teacher-

student instruments (blog, wiki, community).

The “School-family online service” project simplifies the relationship

school-family, thanks to a series of innovative services: Online grade

report; Electronic class registry; SMS text messages to notify families of

their children’s absences; Appointments for parents with teachers; Online

certificates

Since 2001 a learning methodology with the ICTs has been

introduced and diffused which involves 500,000 teachers

(Italy is first in Europe at least in this sector!);

Specific training is ongoing on the use of the ICTs in

teaching which involves 5,816 teachers

Starting from the next school year (2009-2010) there will be

16,000 LIM installed in middle school classrooms. 50,000 teachers

will participate in training for 350,000 students.

In the 2010-2011 school year the plan will be extended to elementary and high schools where 8,000 LIM will be distributed, involving 25,000 teachers.

Il PIANO DI DIFFUSIONE DELLA LIM NELLA SCUOLA

12

The diffusion plan of the LIM, proposed in January 2009,

was received very well by the schools:

• 11,238 interactive blackboards were ordered;

• 41,867 teachers asked to participate in the training;

• After the expiration date to participate in the program,

the School agency received hundreds of requests;

• Private schools also asked to participate in the innovation

• 16,000 LIM (8,000+8,000) will be installed in

middle school classrooms;

• 25,000 teachers of all middle school

subjects will begin training next September;

From the 2010-11 school year the plan will be extended to elementary and

high schools (8,000 LIM for 8,000 classes – 25,000 teachers).

The plan introduces “digital contents” in education which are the center of

numerous initiatives:

• International collaborations (EUN, asset, LO);

• Collaborations with other Ministeries: DIT (Innova scuola), Beni

culturali, Giustizia (@urora);

• Collaborations with AIE in view of the use of textbooks in digital

format;

• Collaborations with Ist. Enciclopedia Italiana, Caspur, CINECA e

CILEA, etc.

IL PROGETTO CASSI 2.0

15

“Progetto Cl@ssi 2.0” will involve 156 classes with the advanced

use of the ICTs and will allow the experimentation of the

construction of new digital learning environments. These classes

will be activated starting from the next school year.

• 2.382 Classes and 14,019 teachers apply for this project;

• the project will be coordinated by the Ministero and by the

Agenzia Scuola with the support of 18 universities;

• It will involve 1,500 teachers of all subjects and 3,400

students.

In the 2010-11 school year the plan will be extended to

elementary and high schools.

Classroom 2.0- One to One Computing

The agency www.indire.it is invited to propose the project for

the realization of the Cl@ssi 2.0 initiative with particular

emphasis on the support and experimentation of the project.
