CONCEPT

60� percent� of� Pakistan's� population� comprises� of� youth.� According� to� 2008�statistics,�24.4�million�are�in�the�age�group�of�19-29�years�[1].�Two�critical�issues�arise�from�this�demographic�situation.�First,�there�is�a�potential�risk�to�society�if�young�people's�resources�of�energy,�time,�and�knowledge�are�misdirected�towards�vices�such�as�violence,�war,�terrorism,�and�drug�and�alcohol�abuse,�thereby�leading�to� political,� economic,� and� social� instability.� Second,� there� is� a� powerful�opportunity�for�society�if�young�people�can�participate�positively�in�all�aspects�of�life� such�as�governance,�development,� culture,�environment,�and�commerce� to�promote�sustainable�development.�Young�people�have�an�enormous�stake�in�the�present�and�future�state�of�the�planet.�

Agenda � 21‒the � susta inable � deve lopment � b luepr int � for � the � 21st�Century‒recognized�in�Chapter�36�that�education,�public�awareness,�and�training�are�critical�for�sustainable�development,�and�that�participation�and�involvement�of�young� people,� alongside� other� eight� major� groups� ,� are� essential� in� its�implementation�(United�Nations�1992).�However,�sustainable�development‒in�its�dimensions�of�environment,�society,�and�economy‒remains�elusive�as�the�state�of:�(a)� planet� (these� are:� 1)� women;� 2)� indigenous� people;� 3)� nongovernmental�organisations;�4)� local�authorities;�5)�workers�and�trade�unions;�6)�scientific�and�technological�communities;�7)�farmers;�and�8)�business�and�industry)�continues�to�deteriorate� with� attendant� disastrous� consequences� for� human� well-being�(Millennium� Ecosystem� Assessment� 2005).� The� United� Nations� Decade� of�Education�for�Sustainable�Development�(UNDESD),�2005-2014,�has�provided�a�vital�opportunity� to� document� and� explore� how� to� enhance� the� involvement� and�participation�of�young�people�in�sustainable�development�processes�and�activities�using�education�as�a�tool.

The� Educat ion� Youth� Ambassador � (EYA)�p rogramme�was�set�up�in�September�2014�by�Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi�in�collaboration�with�A�World�at�School�(AWAS).�It�has�been�established�to� build� on� and� strengthen� the� emerging� youth�movement� for� global�education.

Since�its�launch,�the�programme�now�operates�independently�and�forms�a�growing�network�of�over�300�youth�ambassadors�in�Pakistan�campaigning�for�all�children�to�realise�their�right�to�go�to�school�and�learn.

Our�EYAs�have�organised�and�participated�at�a�number�of�events,� including�hosting� informative�sessions�to�mark�International�Women's�Day,�planning�vigils�for�the�Peshawar�school�attack,�and�contributing�to�the�National�Education�Policy�by�voicing�their�recommendations�and�expressing�the�changes�they�want�to�see�in�education�in�Pakistan.�They�have�also�written�stories�for�the�UNESCO�Youth�Global�Monitoring�Report,�as�well�as�countless�articles�and�blogs�bringing�to�light�some�of�the�issues�they�have�faced�in�going�to�school.

The�Ambassadors�have�also�helped�mobilise�more�than�2�million�petition�signatures�across�Pakistan�for�A�World�at�School's�#UpForSchool�campaign�‒�calling�on�world�leaders�to�ensure�that�every�child�is�able�to�go�to�school,�without�danger�or�discrimination.�The�campaign�has�gathered�more�than�9�million� signatures� and� will� be� presented� to� world� leaders� during� the� United� Nations� General�Assembly�for�action�on�education.�With�the�support�of�our�EYA�network,�we�had�also�run�various�remarkable�campaigns�on�girls'�education,�with�many�of�them�volunteering�to�host�screenings�and�awareness�sessions�in�various�schools�across�Pakistan.

My�name�is�Kakar�Hayat�Hamandzai,�I�am�24�years�old�&�belong�to�a�small�district�called�Killasaifullah,�Baluchistan�and�my�mission�is�to�server�

humanity� and� bring� equality.� Belonging� to� a� poor� and� un-educated� family,� I�struggled�a�lot�to�pursue�my�education�and�dreams.�In�2014,�I�became�part�of�Education�Youth�Ambassador� (EYA)�at� Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi�and�Global�Youth�Ambassador�(GYA)�program,�I�finally�felt�that�I�found�a�platform�to�do�something�big�for�the�society�that� I� had� dreamt� of� doing.� I� started� my� work� for� UpforSchool� campaign� and�enrollments� walks� and� completed� and� collected� 13,000� signatures� from� different�people,�organization,�schools�and�colleges�in�my�province�Baluchistan.�I�have�told�them�that�this�is�one�signature�and�thumb�can�change�the�future�of�our�dear�children.�From�the�first�day�of�being�an�EYA�and�GYA,�I�have�opened�many�schools,�conducted�seminars,�programs,�and�wrote�different�articles,�and�blogs�to�raise�the�voice�of�our�children.�With�my�determination,�I�established�my�own�organization,�“Initiative�for�Social�Change�and�Development”�(ISCD)�with�the�aim�to�work�for�education,�health,�peace,�child�rights,�human�rights�and�youth.� In�early�2014,� I�started�working�on�the�Baluchistan's�youth�policy�draft�with�help�of�a�local�organization�and�formed�district�assemblies�to�work�for�youth�rights�and�giving�an�identification�to�Baluchistan's�youth.�Recently,�I�am�working�with�USAID-PRP�as�School�Support�Associate� (Teachers�Trainer)� from� last�3�years.� � I�believe�that�“a�right�direction�at�the�right�time�leads�an�individual�towards�ultimate�success”.

I� am� Anam� Fatima,� a� 26� year� old� M.Phil.� Scholar� of�international�relations,�living�in�Islamabad.�I�strongly�believe�that�a�person�fashioned�with�determination�and�an�unconditional�urge�to�'know'� does� not� stick� to� boundaries� and� is� always� looking� up� to�opportunities,�to�live�up�the�dream.�I�served�as�a�visiting�faculty�member�in�the�school�of�politics�and�international�relations�SPIR),�at�Quaid-e-Azam�University�(QAU),�Islamabad,�currently�working�as�a�Research�Fellow�at�Pak�Institute�for�Peace�Studies,�Islamabad�(PIPS).�

I�have�been�associated�with�Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi�(ITA)�as�Education�Youth�Ambassador�since�2015�till�date.�Working�with�ITA�has�enhanced�career�opportunities�in�my�way.�ITA�has�offered�me�to�share�valuable�thoughts/considerations�on�the�subject�of�national�education�policy�reforms,�year�2016.�Girls�rise�through�education�campaign�is�another�milestone�achieved�by�ITA�in�our�society�to�promote�girls�education.�This�program�has�helped�me�to�bring�together�community�school�students�to�voice�their�opinion�against�gender�based�education.�Thanks�to�ITA,�my�lifelong�dream�of�serving�as�an�educationist�and�academician�is�moving�forward.�I�have�received�the�greatest�benefit�of�anything�I� can� imagine� from� the� Education� Youth� Ambassador's� (EYA)� Program.� There� is� nothing� more�important�for�me�than�perusing�my�role�as�an�EYA�under�the�umbrella�of�ITA,�an�organization�helping�so�very�many�people�to�evolve�via�education.

I� am� Muhammad� Ahmad,� 22� years� old� young� motivated� youth�leader�from�Rahim�Yar�Khan.�I�have�received�award�of�Blood�Donation�

Society�from�Islamia�University.�I�received�Ambassador�of�Child�Labor�Award�from�MAPS�&�COMSATS�in�Education�Expo'14.�MAPS�also�conducted�MAPS�Art�Champ'16�&�17�in�which�engaged�students�of�Rahim�Yar�Khan�to�promote�their�talent�and�creativity�by�wall�art�competition.�I�have�been�a�part�of�various�humanity�serving�activities�organized�by�various�national�&�international�organizations.�Being�a�youth�leader,�I�have�taken�part� in� “Pak-Turk� Strategic� Economic� Partner� and� Social� Perspective� “conference.� I�Believe�“The�Youth�is�power�if�we�empower�our�youth�we�can�bring�positive�change�in�all�sectors�and�that�is�really�possible”�

I�am�Raeesa�Javed�is�from�Lahore,�Pakistan.�I�hold�a�Bachelors�of� Arts� degree� in� English� Literature.� Since� 2008� I� have� been�actively�engaged�both�voluntarily�and�professionally�in�welfare�and�development� projects� related� to� health� and� education� with� USAID,�hospitals,�NGOs�and�schools.�My�passion�is�to�see�development�in�societies�and�this�leads�to�my�work�with�advance�strategies.�I�have�been�working�as�Education�Youth�Ambassador,�Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi�from�2014-2016�and�as�a�Field�Instructor�to�teach�English�as�a�second�language�and�student�learning�evaluation.�3.

My�name�is�Masih�ullah�hails�from�FATA.I�am�26�years�old�and�I�have�done�Master�in�Sociology�from�University�of�Peshawar.�As�a�

dedicated�social�worker,�I�have�remained�engage�with�different�national�and� international� organizations.� Currently,� I� am� working� with� Islamic� Relief�

Pakistan.�I�joined�Idara-e-Taleem-o-Agahi�as�“Education�Youth�Ambassador�“in�2015.�Being�an�Education�Youth�Ambassador�brought�a�great�impact�in�my�life,�it�gave�me�realization� that�how�much�are�we� lagging�behind� the�world� in� terms�of� education.�Working� for� education�with� ITA� is� a� unique� experience� for�me.� It� has� opened� new�windows�in�my�life�and�built�my�interest�toward�eradicating�the�evil�of�illiteracy�from�Pakistan.�As�an�EYA,�I�have�worked�in�different�rural�and�remote�areas�of�Pakistan�for�initiating� literacy� and� enrollment� campaigns.� I� presented� policy� recommendations�during�various�policy�dialogues�organized�by�ITA�to�put�forward�the�“Youth's�Say”.�The�knowledge�and�skills�gained�from�the�EYA�program�was�extended�to�my�first� job�at�Human�Appeal-Pakistan�where�my�main�responsibilities�were�linked�to�education.�This�helped�me�a�lot�in�delivering�exceptionally�and�with�excellence.�I�owe�my�all�success�to�ITA�because�that�experience�refurbished�my�latent�skills�and�transformed�me�in�to�a�professional�social�worker�and�an�activist.��

I,�Hafiz�Muhammad�Ilyas�Waseem,�was�born�at�Tehsil�Arifwala�District�Pakpattan.�I�got�early�education�from�Govt.�Middle�school�No.01� Arifwala.� I� joined� Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi� as� an� Education�Youth�Ambassador�in�2015.

Due�to�financial�challenges,�after�my�graduation,�I�started�working�and�with�my�job,�I�continued�my�study��and�took�admission�in�Master�degree�(M.Sc�mass�Communication).�I�wrote�various�columns�in�news�papers.�After�two�years�of��service,�I�started�teaching�in�Iqra�Public�School(pvt).�I�wrote�features�on�social�Issues�with�Sujag�organization.�Due�to�my�interest�in�education,�I�completed�various�short�courses�in�Education,�Computers,�Population�Welfare.�In�August�2015�I�joined�Govt.�primary�School�village�345/E.B�in�Arifwala�as�Elementary�School�Educator.�School's�physical�and�moral�condition�was�terrible.�After�two�months,�I�was�given�charge�as�Head�teacher�of�the�School.�I�established�kids'�room,�provided�writing�and�learning�aid�to�the�poor�and�deserving�students.�I�also�worked�on�child�welfare�projects.�As�a�matter�of�children's�right,�clean�water,�neat�&�safe�environment�was�also�provided�to�them.� I� am� also� working� with� Pakistan� Red� Crescent� Society� (PRCS)� in� collaboration� with�International�Federation�of�Red�Cross�(IFRC)�on�School�Safety�Programme�in�Pakistan.�Being�an�EYA�strengthened�my�skills�&�knowledge�to�accomplish�various�tasks�in�my�career,�including�education�promotion� and� advocacy,� School� education� especially� on� girls� education,� training� teachers� &�establishing�junior�youth�clubs�at�school�level.�
