EDUCATION WEEK CELEBRATIONS
As is clearly evident from the photographs in this edition of the newsletter our Chertsey school community can be very proud of our students who represented the Erina Learning Community yesterday at Erina Fair for the launch of Education Week. Our public schools brilliantly showcased the tremendous talent at our local schools with our own dance group and school choir doing us proud. Thank you to Miss Wiseman, Mrs Hynes and Mrs Blumer who provide our students with such memorable opportunities in the areas of choir and dance. And please make the time to view the static displays of student work which are on display for this week at Erina Fair and are situated outside of Big W, opposite QBD bookshop. Thank you to Veronica Brown, Kim Kiernan and Annette Hill for promoting our school whilst at the static display by distributing brochures to shoppers. A big thank you also to Mrs Hynes, Rodney Hynes, Mrs Auinger, Miss Sewell, Mrs Wickert and Mr Waters for coordinating the Chertsey student’s work and setting up the static display on Sunday afternoon. All in all it was a fantastic promotion for our local public schools. Please try to visit our school this Thursday, 2
nd August. The
Chertsey staff have issued an open invitation to our school community to visit our great school for Open Day and Book Fair. It is a wonderful way for our families to come together and celebrate the many tremendous things that happen at Chertsey.
As you can see by the flyer, our staff have been busy organising activities for this special day held to celebrate Education Week at Chertsey Primary School. Activities planned include the Scholastic Book Fair and performances from our Choir and Dance Group and students from Erina High School’s music faculty and former student, Natalie Trainor from Narara Valley H.S . A special highlight this year, will be the presence of Mayor Lawrie McKinna, who has accepted an invitation to be our ‘Principal for a Day’. And remember, if you are able to donate a book from the Book Fair to our library, it will benefit students for many years to come. I appreciate the work that our teacher/librarian, Mrs Tialshinsky has done in the lead-up to promote the Book Fair. Thank you to Miss Sewell for once again putting together a great program of events which will promote our school so well across the school and wider communities. We look forward to seeing a large number of families at school to help students and staff celebrate Education Week 2013.
SAVE THE FETE DATE
You might have noticed the SAVE THE DATE notice on our Wells St school noticeboard this past week. If you are yet to do so, please record the fete in your home diary &/or calendar for Sunday,
October 20. The Fete Committee are working very hard to ensure that this fete is the best ever.
THIS WEEK’S CLASSY ARTICLE
I am sure we are all looking forward to seeing the Classy Article section resume in this newsletter. This week classes 1/2W and K-6D will proudly show off some of their hard work.
SUNSAFE and PROUD Well done to Malakai of class 1/2W who won this week’s hat draw. Malakai wins a slushy, courtesy of our canteen and our P&C. It is great to see our students proudly wearing their winter uniform. Congratulations Malakai enjoy your slushy! WELL DONE TEAM CHERTSEY At the end of last term and at very short notice I was able to form a small team of staff and parents to participate in the Cancer fundraiser DRY JULY. To my great surprise and delight not only have all the team persisted with the challenge but as of last week we have raised over $1 000. A terrific effort for a most worthwhile cause. Congratulations to all team members and thank you to staff, parents and friends who have supported us! Donations can be made via the Dry July website or if you contact
the office we can email you the direct link to Team Chertsey.
REMINDERS Next P&C meeting Our P&C meeting for the month of August will be held on Tuesday fortnight, Tuesday, 13
th August
at 6.30 pm in the school staffroom. With a time limit of just 2 hours we hope to encourage as many parents and carers to attend. It is a great way to be informed as to what is happening at your child’s school. We hope to see you there. Fortnightly Newsletters It was agreed at our last P&C meeting that our school newsletter will be published on a fortnightly basis as of this term. Paper copies are available on request to our office. As newsletters are published on the Tuesday of odd weeks our next edition will be out on August 13 and then every second Tuesday.

Student medical forms
During Terms 3 and 4 we will be updating our medical records systems to ensure we have the most up-to-date
information on your child’s health.
If you have a child with a medical condition you will receive a copy of the new forms in the mail and will need
to fill them out and return them to us as soon as you can.
The good news is we have already started collecting some of this information, which means less for you to do.
The new forms will help us collect your child’s important medical information and the introduction of new
systems will mean we'll be able to better manage the daily and emergency health needs of your child.
We appreciate your support as we start collecting the information, and if you have any questions please call.
LOST WINTER CLOTHING
There are a large number of lost winter clothing in the school office. If your child has lost
an item of clothing please see the office staff.
Father’s Day Stall Tuesday 27 August 2013
Gifts priced between $2.00 and $8.00 Father’s Day is just around the corner (Sunday 1 September 2013) and we are
having our annual stall on 27 August 2013.
Volunteers are needed to help run the stall on the day, so if you can help (even
for just a short time) please let me know via the school office or in person.
Hope to see you there, it’s always great fun.
If you’d like to donate something new or handmade for the stall please do so
through the school office.
Thanks in advance for any and all assistance.

CHOIR NEWS Congratulations to all choir students for an exceptional performance at Erina Fair yesterday. At the beginning of this term you should have received a note regarding ticket sales for the Central Coast Choral Festival. These will go on sale through Mingara Club Ticketing only (either in person or via phone booking) on Monday 5th August. These concerts are very popular and often sell out fairly quickly so I would encourage you to book as early as possible once sales open so as to avoid disappointment. We will perform at both a matinee (3:30pm - $8 per ticket) and evening performance (7:00pm - $12 per ticket) Important choir dates are as follows:
Rehearsal 3 - Thursday 22nd August - Wamberal Public School (full day 9:30am – 2pm) CCCF Tickets go on sale - Monday 5th August, 9am - Mingara Club Ticketing Central Coast Choral Festival Performance - Thursday 5th September - Mingara Recreation Club
A reminder that all choir students should have also paid their $10 participation fee. Thank you. Mrs Scott (Choir Co-ordinator) SCHOOL BANKING
New School Term = New School Banking Rewards
For student bankers who having been saving in their Youthsaver accounts and collecting tokens, it’s a good
time to redeem! Rewards available in term 3 are:
Wallet
Hand ball
Knuckles game
Projector torch
Calculator ( new release)
Dollarmite character money boxes (5 to collect)
All rewards are worth 10 tokens. You can use a redemption card, available from your School Banking co-
ordinator or simply write a note with your name, class, student number and selection. Send it in with your
tokens on banking day and your reward will be ordered. Please allow 1-2 weeks for delivery.
Banking day at Chertsey is every Tuesday. Saving – a great habit to get into!
Bilgola Close concerns
With a new term starting we would like to remind all our parents/carers to watch out
for other children and cars when picking up and dropping off in Bilgola Close. This is quite
a small area with much movement before and after school. We must all be very vigilant when
coming into this area to avoid an accident. Please note that Council Rangers are constantly
patrolling school zones. Your attention to this matter is appreciated.

PRIMARY ASSEMBLY Please note that there will NOT BE an assembly this week.
Save the date! Dads fishing day, Saturday 24th August 2013

Jump Rope for Heart
During Term 3, the children will be participating in Jump Rope for Heart, with our “Jump off” days being held
during Education Week, Thursday 1st August for infants and Friday 2nd August for primary. Please try to
encourage your child to collect sponsors on-line, it is easier, safer and no money to handle.
Thanks for your support.

DEBATING
Congratulations to our debating team of Maddy, Sophie, Indy & Evie, who travelled with Mr Anderson all the way to Northlakes
Public School last Friday to debate the topic ‘That Hollywood has a lot to answer for’. We were the negative team, and did a
fabulous job convincing the adjudicator that our arguments and rebuttals were more believable than the affirmative team from
Northlakes. We have a bye for the next round and will compete in the semi finals at a date to be advised. A huge thank you goes
to Mr Anderson for driving and supporting the team, as well as all the girls’ parents for their support and encouragement. It
certainly makes my job as coordinator much easier!
