ecisions, Decisions, Decisions…

Your high school years are full

of decisions. Whether you have given

a lot of thought to your future career

or not, this booklet is designed to

give you some practical assistance in

making your career choices.

Although studies show that individuals in the jobmarket today will change careers numerous times—deciding what to do after high school is still a majordecision. A good rule is not to feel pressured intomaking a quick decision. That’s why we’ve publishedthis booklet for you. This guide is designed to helpinform you when deciding on your future careerplans; it connects secondary and post secondaryacademic requirements that will allow you to developa seamless educational pathway to your career.

This guide provides program of study informationfor every diploma program offered at SoutheasternTechnical College. Our degrees and certificates arelisted in the back of the booklet and a complete listof those program requirements can be found onlineor in an STC Catalog and Handbook. The courseschosen in this guide will help students better preparethemselves for the postsecondary level of education.

The guide book is divided to show the two secondarypathway options (Technology/Career-Prep and College Prep).Students will be prepared to meet admission requirementsat Southeastern Technical College with either pathway. The Technology/Career-Prep path will ensure thestudent’s preparation into any Technical College inthe state of Georgia. The College Prep will provideadditional core classes that will satisfy admissionrequirements into colleges beyond technical schools.

You will notice that some classes listed in the highschool section may not be available at your school. However, to meet the needs of all of the students thatwe serve, we listed the program requirement listingfrom the Georgia Department of Education. If you seea course listed in a Core, Technical Core, or TechnicalSpecialty that your school does not offer, you can talkto your high school counselor about the possibilityof taking that course with us. Students have theopportunity to take college courses before they graduatethrough Postsecondary Options and through theDual Enrollment—HOPE program. You need to talkto your counselor about eligibility requirements toparticipate. Additionally, we have articulation agreementswith each local high school that allows students totake secondary classes that can be exempted at thepostsecondary level. Taking courses while jointlyenrolled in high school and STC and articulation ofcourses will enable students to complete their requiredacademic classes in a shorter amount of time thanlisted in our Catalog and Handbook.

We have listed our job information from the GeorgiaDepartment of Labor in the back of this booklet. Also,at the bottom of each page, we have listed salaryinformation from our graduates, along with state ofGeorgia and US salary comparisons. It is important tonote that these are beginning salaries for first timeemployment in the field listed, and some of the salarieslisted are for partial year employment. This informationis only meant to provide you with an idea of whatto expect when you enter the field in this area—notwhat you can expect to make long term. To find outmore information regarding any of the programs listedin this booklet, and additional salary information, contact our Admissions Office via email, phone, orstop by and visit with one of preadmission careercounselors. We are ready to help you to begin totake your life in a new direction.

In the year 2010, total employment in Georgia is expected to reach

more than 4.9 million jobs, with almost 81,000 new jobs added

each year. Georgia’s economy has historically grown faster than the

nation’s and this trend is expected to continue in the future. With

this anticipated job growth, it can be complicated to sort out which

occupations will provide the best jobs in the future. It can

sometimes be difficult during the high school years to figure out what

you want to do with your life. But, we all have at least one common

goal—to go to work. Southeastern Technical College belongs to the

Montgomery,Tattnall and Toombs area; we are required to provide

the type of education and training needed by the business and industry

in our area. Our success in this area is measured by the fact that

95% or more of our graduates from the past several years have

gone to work in their field of study or a related field of study.

The information presented here identifies occupational trends from

the Georgia Department of Labor (for the entire state) and we

have identified that programs offered by Southeastern Tech in those

categories. The programs in each category are identified in the order

they appear in the Occupational Trends Report. To view the full

report, you can visit the DOL website, www.dol.state.ga.us.
