EDUCATOR FREE DAYS On Saturday, October 10 and January 23, educators can visit the Museum for free. Learn more about our programs, tour the galleries, and meet the education staff. Take part in a family program and receive discounted admission for family members. Pre-registration required.

DISTANCE LEARNING To support schools far from Nashville, some of our student and teacher programs are available via video conference.

TRUNK PROGRAM Check out a Shapes, Sound Holes, and Strings instrument trunk for use in your classroom. Students can play the banjo, fiddle, guitar, and mandolin. The teacher’s guide offers lessons to accompany the trunk.

THE COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME AND MUSEUM is the home of America’s music, safeguarding

more than 2.5 million priceless artifacts, including recordings, photographs, stage costumes,

musical instruments, automobiles, and more. The Country Music Hall of Fame, in the Museum’s

rotunda, is a showcase for American music’s deepest roots, and for its performers’ highest

aspirations. Our celebrated education experiences allow students to immerse themselves in the

evolving history of country music through interactive gallery tours, lyric writing, performances,

and other creative programs rooted in Nashville’s traditions and culture.

GUIDED HIGHLIGHTS TOURDuring an interactive tour of our galleries, full of historic artifacts and lively multimedia, students will connect the past with the present. Tours can include a stop at Hatch Show Print, a letterpress print shop that has been in business since 1879, as well as Flyin’ Saucers Rock & Roll: The Cosmic Genius of Sam Phillips, an exhibition covering the work of the founder of Sun Records. MAKING WAVES AT HISTORIC RCA STUDIO B Travel to Music Row and step inside a legendary music studio where Elvis Presley and Dolly Parton made hits. Following the tour, students work with a recording engineer to learn the basics of the recording process by tracking and mixing a country classic. WORDS & MUSICA robust classroom unit and a powerful experience. Words & Music combines an immersive lyric writing unit with a performance by a professional songwriter. DYLAN, CASH, AND THE NASHVILLE CATS: A NEW MUSIC CITYDespite its reputation as a conservative town in the politically polarized 1960s and early 1970s, removed from the trends of popular music, Nashville was home to countless talented musicians. Bob Dylan’s decision to record there in 1966 proved to be a major catalyst for bringing artists from around the world, changing the cultural landscape of Music City. Celebrate the season by bringing a student ensemble or choir to perform at the Museum during our annual holiday celebration. Experience a guided tour of the Schermerhorn Symphony Center and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, as well as an interactive program with live performances comparing music and history of the fiddle and the violin. Presented in partnership with the Nashville Symphony.

DAZZLING DESIGNSExamine stage costumes and embellished instruments during an interactive museum tour, then discuss details, color, imagery, symbolism, and historical relevance before creating a dazzling costume or instrument design. Material fee of $1 per student for all non-Title I schools. MUSIC MATTERSApril 8

Hear the stories of our nation’s most powerful songs—and the history that inspired them. Led by a live band, this engaging, multimedia concert will make you tap your toes and think about American history in a brand new way. CHAPERONE REQUIREMENTSA minimum of one and a maximum of two adult chaperones per every ten students is required for all school programs. Additional chaperones may attend by purchasing adult general admission.

PLAN YOUR VISIT

School programs and tours for groups of ten or more students are scheduled Monday through Friday. Reservations are required at least one month in advance and six weeks in advance for Words & Music. Please note that all programs have a minimum and maximum number of students.

STRING CITY: NASHVILLE’S TRADITIONOF MUSIC AND PUPPETRYNovember 30- December 3, at 10:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

String City creates a fascinating and entertaining “circle” through the history of country music. Marionettes, rod puppetry, shadow/animation puppetry, and more portray country music’s legacy through songs and puppet apprearances from the Carter Family, Hank Williams, Dolly Parton, George Strait, Alan Jackson, Taylor Swift, Alison Krauss, and many others.
