KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION

Page 2: Educating Tomorrow’s Leaders · and EaLD and LaS programs. Farewell Ms Ale This is the final newsletter before Ms Ale commences her maternity leave. Her last day at Dalmeny being

look forward to welcoming you to the Dalmeny school community. During the transition sessions 2018 Kindergarten students will not be in their regular classes or with their regular teachers. They will participate in learning activities with a number of our specialist staff to allow the teachers to be part of the orientation process with the 2019 enrolments. Road Safety At the assembly yesterday morning I spoke

to all students and parents present about

the need to ensure we observe safe

procedures when dropping off and picking

up students.

A parent was recently observed at the top

gate (Kiss and Drop zone) pulling up to

collect their child on the far side of the

road. The parent called the child across the

road, not across the pedestrian crossing

and the child was almost struck by a

passing vehicle. PLEASE collect your

children from the safest kerb on the school

side of the street and encourage your

children to only cross the road at the

marked crossing. I understand the traffic

can be quite congested but the extra

couple of minutes it takes to follow the road

rules could prevent a tragic accident.

Disrespectful Behaviour at Sport Last Friday we unfortunately experienced

an occasion where a few Dalmeny

students thought it would be suitable to

show disrespect to a member of our local

community as they walked to sport at the

Ash Rd Sporting complex. The teachers on

duty dealt with this immediately, the

students were returned to school and their

parents contacted. As a result of this

behaviour these students have been

removed from the PSSA team for the

remainder of 2018.

I often speak to students about their

behaviour as they leave our school and

how it reflects not only on them, but their

families and our school. Numerous

opportunities across the school day are

presented where our school rules are

reinforced, expectations of behaviour

clarified and where we ask students to

conduct themselves in a safe and

respectful manner. Please take the

opportunity to reinforce these values to

your children; we are approaching the time

of year where camps, overnight excursions

and fun days all provide the chance for our

students to function within the wider

community and we trust that they will do it

with respect, tolerance and consideration

of others.

Opal Cards

In numerous issues of this newsletter we promote the need for students to have Opal cards. I regularly speak to students in bus lines and the bus drivers regularly speak to teachers on duty. We have been

advised students without cards are being reported to the transport company and it will shortly be the case that students who do not have opal cards will not be permitted to travel on the bus. If this is the case we will need to call parents and you will have to collect students from the school office.

P&C Meeting

Tonight our second last P&C meeting for the year will be held in the school library at 7pm. All parents are encouraged to come along and support the P&C. Mrs Selena Gandy Relieving Principal 2019 Enrolments Planning is now underway for our class formations in 2019. Indications are that student numbers at Dalmeny school will continue to grow. It is of vital importance that if you are not returning in 2019 that you please inform the office. The numbers of students enrolled will impact on how many classes we are entitled to have and also on students being placed into 2019 classes We really want to start the classes as soon as we can in 2019 so information about students who will NOT be returning is vital for this to happen.
