Edmodo

Overview Edmodo is a free participatory learning environment that brings safe and secure collaboration between teachers and students. The platform creates a vehicle for students and teachers to engage in a virtual classroom experience where topics for any subject may be presented, discussed, discovered, analyzed, and/or assessed by students and teachers. While students can interact within our system, the teachers and administrators have total control and visibility.

Getting Started Getting started with Edmodo is not a difficult process. There are sign up options for teachers, students and parents, all of which are controlled by the educator.

2. Click on the Teachers tab. 3. Your Librarian or Digital Learning Specialist will provide you with a school code. 4. Complete the sign up portion and click Join Edmodo for Free.

Navigation

Note: the large Create group button is only there when creating your first group.

Creating a Group Groups are the classroom portion of Edmodo. You can create a group for each class or each subject. You have total control of who is able to sign up to your group.

1. Click on the + symbol and click Create.

2. Name the group. 3. Select a Grade. 4. Choose a Subject Area. 5. Then click Create.

You will now be taken to a screen that will display your Group Code. This code is on the upper left hand side of your screen and it is important. It is the code you will give to students so they can sign up for your Group (class).

Student Side of Edmodo Once given the code, students can now go to edmodo and join your group.

1. Navigate to www.birdvilleschools.edmodo.com 2. Click on the Students tab. 3. Type in the group code, that you have given them, into the appropriate box. 4. Students create a Username and Password. The username should be the b followed by their

student ID number. The passwords should all be bisd(birthday) ex. bisd11/10/2003 5. The email portion is optional, no email is needed for students to join your group. 6. Click Join Edmodo for Free.

Student View The student view is very similar to the teach view. Notice that your group is located in their Groups section. They will click on that group to enter your online classroom.

Sending a Note If you want to share something with your students, simply send a Note by following the steps below.

1. Click on Note at the top of your center panel of your Edmodo Homepage. 2. Type your message in the text box. 3. Type the name of a student, teacher, or Group into the Send to field. 4. Optional: attach files, links, or resources. 5. Schedule to send message later. 6. Click Send to send not immediately.

Send an Alert If you would like to share a short and important announcement that will appear in bold on the communication stream, you can send an Alert.

1. Click on the Alert tab at the top of your center panel. 2. Type your message in less than 140 characters in the text box. You cannot attach links or files to an

Alert. 3. Choose to Send now or Schedule.

Adding Assignments Assignments are a perfect way to have students complete work, without using any paper.

1. Click on the Assignments tab. 2. Name your Assignment. 3. You may want to describe the assignment or leave instructions. 4. Assign a due date.

1. Choose the class that this assignment post is designated for. 2. You can now attach a file. (this could be directions, a reading selection, video are audio file) 3. You could also add a link to a website or video. 4. To post click Send.

Making a Quiz It's easy to get started creating Quizzes for your classes. Once you have created the Quiz, then you need to send the Quiz to your class so they can complete the Quiz.

1. Select the “Quiz” tab located in the post bubble at the top of your Edmodo Homepage. 2. Click “Create a Quiz” to create a new Quiz.

3. Fill in the Quiz details.

Quiz Title - name your Quiz by completing the title field at the top. Time Limit - set a time limit for students to complete the Quiz, maximum time limit is 1440

minutes or 24 hours. Description - complete the “About this Quiz” field on the right panel to describe the Quiz

Results - check the box under “Quiz Options” to show students their immediate Quiz results

4. Select the question type from the Type drop-down. 5. Click the Add First Question button and type in the question in the Question Prompt field. 6. Add responses. The response fields will vary depending on the type of question. 7. Change the “Point” field if you would like to weight the question. 8. Select the “+” button on the left side panel to add a new question. 9. Select the “Preview Quiz” link under the “Assign Quiz” button to preview the Quiz. 10. Click the “Assign Quiz” button at the top right corner of the page to post the Quiz. 11. Select a due date by clicking in the due date field. 12. Check Add to Grade book to automatically add it to your grade book, if you forget this step you

can add it to your grade book later. 13. Choose Send Now or Scheduled.

Add Assignments and Grades through Grade Book You can manually make changes to your grade book such as adding grades from Assignment outside of Edmodo or updating a student's grade if they revised their Assignment. Any Assignment or Quiz you post to your Group will result in a column being added in the grade book. To add grades for Assignments or Quizzes not posted through Edmodo, do the following:

1. Select the New Grade button at the top left corner of the grade book page. 2. Provide the title of the Assignment and the total number of points possible for that Assignment. 3. Click Create Grade.

Note: If you send a Quiz to one student or a Small Group, rather than the whole class, the results will not

be added automatically to your grade book. You will have to navigate to the Quiz results in your

communication stream and then manually enter the grades into your grade book.
