2015 - Celebration of the 150 Years of the
book “Heaven & Hell” By Allan Kardec
One of the five basic works that make up the Codification of Spiritism
Its overall scope is to explain the justice of God in the light of the Spiritist Teachings. Heaven and Hell is the fourth
of the five basic works that make up the Spiritist Codification. Its main purpose is to explain God’s Justice from the point of view of the Spiritist Teachings. It is aimed at demonstrating the immortality of the soul and its situation in the spirit world as a consequence of its own acts. The book is divided into two parts: The first is a comparative analysis of religious theories on life after death. It discusses matters such as the death of children, individuals born with birth defects, collective disasters, and a wide range of problems that only the immortality of the soul and reincarnation can explain satisfactorily. Kardec seeks to clarify themes such as angels, heaven, demons, hell, eternal punishment, purgatory, the fear of death, the mosaic prohibition against evoking the dead etc. Additionally, it presents the Spiritist counter explanation on the doctrine of eternal punishment. The second part, which is the result of practical work, is a collection of examples concerning the situation of the soul during incarnation and after discarnation. These are testimonies given by repentant criminals, hardened spirits, happy, average and suffering spirits, suicides and spirits undergoing earthly expiation. BUSS was invited to take part in the Big Ques-tions Programme BBC One, Sunday, 8th Febru-
ary 2015, live from Southampton.
It was a great and pleasant surprise when, at the end of January, BUSS received an email ([email protected]) with an invitation to take part in the BBC’s “The Big Questions Pro-gramme”.
This is the first time that BUSS has been invited to join a major, well-respected television programme with a large audience (now on its eighth series) to talk about Spiritism.
We, of course, embraced the challenge to be there and share the platform with other guests. “Have beings from other planets guided our religion?” was the theme discussed. With such a big audience watching, it was very important to be able to explain the Spiritist approach to the “big question” of the day. BUSS was represented on the programme by Silvia Gibbons.
We were told after the transmission that the feedback from the audience was very positive. A few days later, the programme sent us an email thanking us for our presence. We are looking for-ward to an opportunity to return to the BBC’s The Big Questions Programme.

Juselma Coelho on 21st February, seminar about the book Heaven and Hell, at the Goodenough College - London. Mediumship Seminar on 28th February, at the Goodenough College, London, with Anne Sinclair, Carol von Scharten and Tanya Moore, aimed at helping disseminate Spiritism to a British audience. Eighty percent of those who attended were English speakers. On 7th March, at the Goodenough College, London, Lucia Moysés addressed a very relevant and up-to-date issue: “An urgent matter, educating children and young people in the 21st Century”. The seminar was a CEE-CEI Event and was attended by Claudia Werdine, Coordinator of the CEE. A number of
people came from the Netherlands especially for the event.

NEWS from the Groups
RICHMOND SPIRITIST FELLOWSHIP The Group will hold its first public meeting on 25th March at 20:00 (doors open at 19:30). Meetings will take place on the last Wednesday of each month, at the same time, at the following address: Friends Meeting House: 1 Retreat Road Richmond, TW9 1NN SOLIDARITY SPIRITIST SOCIETY A year ago the Youth Group of the Solidarity Spiritist Society was born, attended then by a coordinator and five young people. Fifteen young people (aged 10 to 15) now attend our weekly meetings every Thursday from 18:45 to 20:00, focusing on the Christian and Spiritist Teachings. The group use Power Point, films, books and a number of activities in order to convey the message in a friendly and accessible manner. The Solidarity Spiritist Society has other projects and objectives for this year: Hiking.
Visits to other groups of studies with small presentations about the group and its goals To work actively in partnership with other charity institutions.
Our doors are open to visitors and we welcome suggestions to help us encourage the children and teenagers in our community to embrace a healthier existence within the principles of love, gratitude and charity, with the guidance of Christ.
