A New Year! New Beginnings!

What a privilege and honour to be part of this amazing environment!

It is a new year with new beginnings. It is in our own interest that we adapt to new situations as quickly as possible. We would all like to celebrate the success of our school but most of all, the success of each and every learner at AKPS&A. Remember that success calls for commitment, hard work and a positive attitude. If you have a vision for victory in life, you can rise to a new level. But as long as you keep your eyes on the ground instead of on your possibilities, you risk moving in the wrong direction and missing out on the great things God wants to do in and through you. First graders - 2018 The new Grade 1 intake. Learners were very excited to meet new friends and welcomed back friends of the previous year. Parents

shared their enthusiasm. The year kicked off to a very busy start as Grade 1 Learners had to hand in their first Oral Rubric. The projects were very well done and learners presented their projects (Jenny’s New House ) with so

much confidence.

Head girl’s Note

I would like to share my intentions, objectives and visions during my reign as head girl of Amazing Kids Private School and Academy for the year 2018.

First and foremost, I possess the same vision as that of the school. Which is to promote a Christ-centred life and the development of a Christ-like character, to assist the teachers with preparing fellow students for a successful life in this world and eternally. Lastly to work side by side with the teachers that provides top quality education in a loving family atmosphere.

Statistics state that peer to peer learning is extremely effective and therefore my objectives is simply to help the teachers in terms of getting students to cooperate. I believe that one listens to another that is of the same or slightly the same age group. Another objective is to make Amazing Kids a more enjoyable environment to live in, given that we spend majority of our time on school premises.

My team and I will do so by working with the rest of the students to see what kind of activities they would like to have and how they would enjoy school more. Then we will find successful ways to make these things happen.

Furthermore, I would like to invest more time in the community service program. It is paramount to teach everyone to lend a helping hand to those in need. Always remember that Jesus himself said “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” If a brother or sister is in need, we must all run to their rescue and aid them.

Lastly, I intend to lead the school with a positive mind-set day in and day out. I intend to ensure that the learners adhere to the school’s rules and regulations. I also intend to be an example of what every learner should look and act like. Therefore I too should adhere to the school rules and regulations. Moreover, I intend to cooperate with fellow colleagues and learners in perfect peace and harmony because we are a team. Nobody is above the other and we all need to work together to get to where we want to be. So I urge every student to work with me, I cannot do anything by myself. Making this school a better place requires team work which requires all of us to work together. I emphasize greatly on that.

All in all, I hope the year is absolutely wonderful for every person in Amazing Kids Private School and Academy. May we work together, never forgetting the Lord, to get to where we want to end up. I thank you.

GRADE 2 AIRPORT VISIT

Every year the Grade 2’s are going to the airport and this year was no exception. This year they were divided into groups to make it more manageable for them to move around and get acquainted with all

that is happening at an airport. Learners are usually over excited to visit various places outside the school grounds. They got to view all the different planes as well as defence force helicopters. The

officers at the airport were very helpful and eager to show the learners around. Yet another way to stimulate all the senses of the developing child!

READING TIME We all know that reading to our children is important. But did you know that toddlers and pre-schoolers who are read to every day have many advantages and benefits. Not only does reading enhance a child’s

vocabulary, and to help them understand how to read and write, but reading aloud to children also helps them to understand different topics about the world and everyday life. The importance of reading cannot

be emphasised enough in young children and we as parents need to make reading a priority.

READING To youNG chIlDREN sETs ThEM up To

succEED.

*The more you read to your children, the more knowledge they absorb, and

knowledge is important in all aspects of life. Studies have shown that reading to young children gives them a head start

and helps to prepare them for school later down the line. Children who enjoy

reading not only do better in language and literacy subjects, but in all of the

different subjects as well.

READING DEvElops lANGuAGE skIlls

*While you may speak with your children every day, the vocabulary you use is often

limited and repetitive. *Reading books ensures that your child is exposed to vocabulary on different topics, which

means they hear words or phrases which they may not hear otherwise in their day

to day lives.

ExposuRE To READING ExERcIsEs youR chIlD’s

bRAIN *Reading to young children affects their

brain activity and may just give them that boost they need to support and promote their early reading skills. *Research shows

that specific areas of the brain are affected when young children have

reading exposure at home from an early age.

READING ToGEThER

ENcouRAGEs A ThIRsT foR kNowlEDGE

*Reading to your children leads to questions about the book and the

information within. It gives you a chance to speak about what is happening and use

this as a learning experience.

READING ENhANcEs A chIlD’s coNcENTRATIoN

*While you may think it is useless reading to a toddler who wants to constantly turn pages, swap books, or throw them around altogether, reading with your little one is

extremely important at this age. *By consistently reading to your child

every day, your child will learn to concentrate and sit still for longer periods

of time, which can help later on when they go to school.

A RANGE of books TEAchEs chIlDREN AbouT DIffERENT

TopIcs

*Providing your child with different types of books on different topics, or even in different languages for bilingual kids,

gives them a wide range of information to learn. There are informative books on

topics such as different animals, places or objects etc, and there are also different

books to help teach children about important life skills such as sharing, being

kind, and diversity.

READING DEvElops A chIlD’s IMAGINATIoN AND

cREATIvITy

*One of the great benefits of reading with children is watching their growing

imagination. When we really engage in a book we imagine what the characters are doing. We imagine the setting as reality. *Seeing the excitement on a child’s eyes when they know what is going to be on

the next page, or having them guess what is going to happen is one of the most

amazing things to experience.

“Children are made readers on the laps of their parents.” —

Emilie Buchwald

READING books wITh chIlDREN hElps To DEvElop EMpAThy

*When a child can put himself into the story it helps them to develop empathy. They identify with characters, and they

feel what they are feeling. Children begin to understand and relate to

emotions.

books ARE A foRM of ENTERTAINMENT

*With so much technology these days, it is difficult not to get caught up in all the

hype of it all. *However, reading a good book that

your child is interested in can be just as entertaining.

READING ToGEThER hElps To cREATE A boND

*There’s nothing better than cuddling up to your little one and reading a book or a bedtime story together. Spending time with one another, reading, and

talking, can bring parents closer to their children. For parents who work, or have a busy lifestyle, relaxing with your child

and simply enjoying each other’s company while reading can be a great way for you both to wind down, relax,

and bond.

READ-A-THON & SPELL-A-THON Reading forms an integral part of learning. At our recent Spell-a-thon and Read-a-thon events, we were pleasantly surprised as most learners wanted to participate. The competition takes place over a period of three days and on the last day learners are arranged according to their grades where they will compete against other classes in their grades. In spelling, the learners who read and sound all their words correctly gets a price. When reading, they are judged at how well they express themselves and how fluent they read.

Head boy’s Note Greetings to the Reader,

Everyone has a role to play in life. A boy can be brother, a son, a friend, but as for me, I am honoured and humbled to have another identity, Head Boy of Amazing Kids Private School & Academy. It is an honour and pleasure to fill the post as the head boy of the school. I am privileged to have a chance to interact and work with all learners, and to uplift the mission and vision of our school. I am grateful to Our Principle, Vice Principle and to all my teachers who gave me this opportunity to assist them to guide our school in excellence.

For me, being the head boy is not about the position or a title, but it is about action and example which can make a difference. I stand here as a leader not just to lead you but to work in collaboration with each one of you to achieve the best for our school.

In fact, being Head Boy is not about being better than anyone else. It is about having the trust of the school board and my peers. I stand to organize and represent them with honesty and enthusiasm. I am confident that together we will make a great team. School is not only an infrastructure, but it is practice for the future.

A poet named Henry David Thoreau once wrote “I cannot make my days longer, so I strive to make them better”. We too have an opportunity to make our days better and brighter.

EXTRA MURALS….. At Amazing Kids we pride

ourselves in focusing on the holistic development of the

child.

In achieving this we make sure they make use of their mental,

physical, creative and intellectual abilities.

The earlier we expose our students to these various

disciplines, the sooner we can produce a well-rounded,

independent and confident child that is ready to take on any challenge that life has to

offer.

All this can be accomplished with the cooperation of parent,

child and teacher.

Greetings my wonderful Parents and Community. May I start by wishing you a beautiful new year in the wonderful fountain of God’s love. This is the year where we will manifest the goodness of God in every possible way. The world is full of snares for the feet of our young people. Multitudes are attracted by a life of selfish and sensual pleasure. They cannot discern the hidden dangers or the fearful ending of the path that seems to them the way to happiness. The training of children constitutes an important part of God’s plan for demonstrating the power of Christianity. A solemn responsibility rests upon us as parents and teachers so to train our children that when they go forth into the world, they will do good and not evil to those with whom they associate. We as parents and teachers should not lightly regard the work the work of training our children, nor neglect it upon any account. We should employ much time in careful study of the laws which regulate our being to help them be the best God wants them to be. We should make it our first object to become intelligent in regard to the proper manner of dealing with our children that we may secure to them sound minds in sound bodies. Together we can manifest the goodness of God in our Amazing Kids. The Chaplain

LRC LEADERSHIP CAMP

The Camp took place on the 9th-11th of January 2018 at Shalom Centre. The children were exposed to different activities that enhanced their leadership skills, like making them do different activities in groups to promote team work. They also did tug of war and mountain climbing.

The facilitators also made the learners watch videos of some brave characters as a way of motivating the learners to be good leaders. The future leaders came back very excited and motivated indeed and it was clearly shown by how they improved their leadership skills.

The Camp also instilled in them responsibility, accountability and taking ownership making sure there is order and discipline at school, in classes and in any other tasks they are called to do.. The LRC members were positively inspired and they are ready to implement all that they have learned!

We thank God for this fruitful camp!

CAMPUS 2….. OFF TO THE

FIRE STATION AND THE LIBRARY!

The children are always looking forward when something out of the ordinary happens at school. They especially love to work with their hands and create nice art from different kinds of material.

Library visits are always fun for the learners. They are taught how to behave in libraries and their teachers use this time to read to them.

On the 8th of February the Grade 00 – Grade 1 learners of Campus 2 went for an educational outing to the Fire Station. As usual the learners loved the idea and could not wait to get on the bus and to the Fire Station.

Every time we visit, the firemen and the rest of staff are very friendly, welcoming and helpful. Children get to tour the whole Fire station premises and all their questions are answered. The highlight is when they get to climb on the Fire truck. Education surely is fun!

There will be another internal Science Fair where the projects for the Regionals will be chosen.

The involvement and support of parents, teachers and all stakeholders was more than we expected.

We are grateful to all that contributed.

FRENCH VISIT Amazing Kids Private School and Academy receives a guest of Honour, Her Excellency the French Ambassador in the Republic of Namibia.

Her Excellency Ms Claire Bodonyi and the Director of the Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC), Mr. Jérôme KOHL paid our school a visit of courtesy on Monday 26th February 2018.

A French welcoming message was offered by a primary school learner, Lala Tjirozi, while Persida Bukete, a learner in grade 11 recited a beautiful French poem for the occasion.

The Executive Director Mrs Emma Kakona, delivered a message of appreciation towards the visitors and her words were; “Merci Beaucoup” to her Excellency the Ambassador. She added that the visit reflects a sign of solidarity towards our school which is among the few schools in the country that offer French from the lower grade.

In her address, Ms Claire Bodonyi acknowledged that Amazing Kids Private School and Academy is the biggest school offering French in the country.

She also indicated in her messenger that she is a messenger of the President of France His Excellency Emmanuel Macron and that she had to give his message to his counterpart His Excellency Hage Geingob, the president of the Republic of Namibia.

She added that one of the aspects of the two countries’ cooperation was to exchange on various French and Namibian cultures.

An invitation to take part in the upcoming “Francophonie” or the French Day and the “French Independence day” was extended to our school.

From the French Department Jean-Pierre Hangayika. (High School Principal)

FAMILY FUN EVENT On the 13th of February the Pre-Primary School held a Family Fun Event with the theme “Love Covers All”. Parents, teachers and learners were invited to a fun-filled evening of dressing up and enjoying a delicious buffet. The focus was placed on loving one another deeply and sincerely instead of focusing on “romantic love” that is commonly held on Valentine’s Day. It was emphasized that love is exhibited not so much in words as in deeds of kindness, compassion, forgiveness, solidarity, togetherness and inclusiveness. The night was a huge success because of team work between teachers and parents. Thank you to all who contributed and helped make the event a success. Pictured below are some of the parents and their children.
