Our School Values - Respect – Acknowledging the rights and opinions of others and valuing others for who
they are. Inclusion – Being accepting of others and providing a sense of belonging. Care – Show consideration for
the well-being of yourself, others and the world in which we live. Honesty – Being truthful. Responsibility –
Being reliable and accountable for your attitudes and behaviours.
Here we are, week 6 and still going strong remotely!
Pat on the back to us!
(Not sure what that is! Ask the kids.)
Again, we find ourselves preparing for the extension of working remotely. Through this time, it is
important to consider what we can learn as a community and instil in our students the resilience and
desire to make choices that will allow the freedom and choice we appreciate and often take for granted.
Thank you to everyone that took the time to complete the Parent Opinion
Survey. We had 77 families contribute to this opportunity. Your contributions
will be analysed by the staff and findings shared with the community and
school council as soon as the information is available. This will help guide new
initiatives and developments for the years ahead.
Next week is Book Week and we have our Library Captains organising an event for
the students next Friday. This is not a compulsory event as we understand people will
have work commitments or other priorities. However, Abbie and Molly have worked
with Miss Richardson and Mrs Shanahan to organise a remote Favourite Character
Dress Up day. You do not need to purchase anything. Your favourite character could
be anyone, and not need elaborate costumes. Please read below for details on what we would like you
to do on Friday August 27th.
Abbie, Molly and Miss Richardson have sourced and thought of some wonderful activities that you
might like to participate in on Friday August 27. To find the activities you will need to go to the online
learning site at https://sites.google.com/a/education.vic.gov.au/2020-remote-learning-wantirna-south-
primary-school/ Once on the
site, using the left side of the
screen scroll down the tab
titles until you see WSPS
Book Week Celebration.
We look forward to seeing
some of your creativity next
week. See the article below.
Important dates for your calendar, please note the changes:
• Friday August 20th – WaSPS Mural Final day of painting (postponed)
• Tuesday August 24th - Year 5 & 6 Summer Sports Day (postponed)
• Friday September 3rd – Father’s Day Stall (creative thinking at work.
Watch this space!)
• Monday September 6th – Production Dress Rehearsal at school
(postponed)
• Wednesday September 8th – School Production (postponed)
• Friday September 17th – Last day of Term 3
As we continue to work through these times, we still ask for your support in a number of ways. We are
seeking feedback on a few of the school policies that have been reviewed by the policy committee of
School Council. Please make sure you read the policies and offer your considerations.
Over the week it has been refreshing to watch the children play oblivious to the situation they are
experiencing. Rememer the day when life was less complicated! Another thought for the week.
Share with the person next to you what makes you happy right now! Sharing positive thoughts can
only improve our wellbeing and persistence to achieve through this time.
Enjoy a wonderful weekend.

What If?
This week I was reminded
of this poem that appeared
on social media last year.
Whilst things are certainly
tough right now, it
encourages us to consider
the positives that may come
from this for our children in
the future.

What’s been happening in the Hive??
French Toast Breakfast This week we made French toast at the hive! The students prepared and cooked delicious French toast using
the eggs from the school chickens, cinnamon, and milk.
Before we began…This morning we collected all the ingredients and materials required before we began. We
placed the eggs, the cinnamon, vanilla, and the milk into a bowl.
Once all the ingredients were in the bowl…All the students had a turn at mixing the ingredients in the bowl.
The students showed excellent fairness and taking turns.
Next steps…Together we took turns submerging the bread into the batter until it softened. The older students
supported the younger students to engage in the process.
Batter is ready…After the batter was prepared by the students, it was time to cook! With the support of an
educator the students observed the students placing the coated bread into a pan. We discussed safety and the
students had a turn at flipping their pieces of French toast.
French toast ready to eat…While the French toast was cooking, the students set the table with plates, cutlery
and condiments for the French toast. Once the French toast was ready and cooked, all the students sat together
to enjoy breakfast. They displayed excellent table manners and sharing! It was a great experience.
Have you met our new Educator?
Hi, my name is Peter and I'm one of the educators at the Hive. I've completed my associates degree of education at Deakin University and now I'm currently enrolled in my second year at Deakin studying a bachelor of primary education. I've always been fascinated with the education industry and becoming a primary school teacher. I value teaching as a rewarding career because of the endless learning opportunities and the valuable friendships you develop with staff, students, and the school community. I hope to become an inspiring role model and mentor to young children, and that my teaching career will have a positive and meaningful impact on the lives of students for the future. In my leisure time, I enjoy playing sports, listening to music, and socialising with friends. Kind Regards,
Peter 😊
My name is Ella and I am one of the new educators at the Hive! I am currently
in my second year at Deakin, studying a bachelor of primary education.
Working with children has always been a strong passion of mine, and the path
to becoming a teacher has been strongly inspired by my dad along with past
teachers from my time at school. I can’t wait to become a teacher so I can
inspire, support and motivate my future students. In my spare time I enjoy
going to the gym, spending time with my friend and flying home to visit my
family in Tasmania when possible. I am so excited to be a part of the Hive
community and look forward to getting to know everyone!
Kind Regards,
Ella
