How to use the Edit Menu to adapt your images in WordPress

Page 2: Edit image menu

Click on the image when positioned in your post or page content ‘field’ and two icons will appear. Select the one that shows mountains.

Page 3: Edit image menu

Here is where you adjust the alignment of your picture.

If you select ‘Left’, the text will be wrapped around it on the right. Select ‘Right’ and the text will be wrapped on the left. ‘None’ means no text wrapping.

‘Left aligned’ showing text wrapped on the right side of the image.

Title is the image’s name, which will appear as a tag when the image is moused over when published.

Alternative text is a description for the search engines and partially sighted web users.

Page 6: Edit image menu

Caption is the description that will appear under the image.

Link URL is currently the image’s own weblink to its own automatically generated page.

This can be changed to any web address within or outside the blog, and the image will therefore become linked to that destination.

This is useful for additional navigation tabs, payment buttons or any other linked images.

Select the tab ‘Advanced Settings’

You can change the percentage of the image’s size via this slide rule here.

Page 10: Edit image menu

Here you can change the pixel dimensions of your image.

If you change one dimension and leave the other blank, WordPress will calculate it exactly for you.

This creates a border around your image. I suggest entering 1 pixel as a reasonable width.

This adjusts the ‘padding’ or extra space around your image when text is wrapped around it. I suggest 5 to 8 pixels as a guide.

Now you’ll see the other ‘fields’ filled in with code text, if you’re interested in that sort of thing, and the image example at the top always shows what you’ll get.
