MANAGUA, NICARAGUA – The Nicaraguan Public Ministry said they will request help from Mexico to continue their investigation of an alleged misuse of trademarks. The incident involves six vehicles which allegedly belong to Mexican TV network Televisa that were seized in August of this year.
During a press conference, two officers of the Nicaraguan prosecutor’s office said they
will use the mutual legal assistance programs available through diplomatic channels to gather information about the case.
What the officers are looking for is evidence that can be used in trial against 18 Mexican citizens who were arrested and charged for alleged money laundering, organized crime and international drug trafficking. When the Mexican nationals were arrested, they had $9.2 million cash in their possession.
According to Nicaraguan authorities, they will be requesting the information about
the vehicles’ registration. The vehicles had Mexican plates and sported logos from the Mexican network Televisa.
Authorities said the vehicles were used by 18 fake journalists to travel through Central America. They were allegedly transporting money from Mexican drug cartels through Central America to pay for a drug shipment.
“We only want to determine if the vehicles and logos used in the transportation of money belonging to organized crime were or not owned by Televisa,” assistant prosecutor Ana Julia Guido said.
Meanwhile, the General Inspector of the Public Ministry, Armando Juarez, said they are requesting the documents because there is conflicting information about who owns the vehicles. The Mexican network says one thing and several media outlets in Mexico say
a different thing.When the 18 Mexican nationals were arrested
and the vehicles impounded in August, the Mexican Embassy in Managua issued a letter to the Public Ministry in Nicaragua, giving them the information provided by Televisa that none of the people arrested worked for them and that the vehicles were not owned by the network.
A legal representative for the network filed a complaint in Nicaragua for the alleged crime of illegal use of marks and logos and denied the network had anything to do with the money laundering and drug trafficking schemes run by the people arrested.
According to the Mexican Attorney General’s office, the group, headed by Raquel Alatorre Correa, may be linked to Los Zetas.
The accused are expected to go to trial on Dec. 3.

AURORA – El Buró Federal de Investigaciones (FBI) se encuentra investigando el robo a una sucursal bancaria en el oeste de Aurora esta semana.
De acuerdo al vocero del FBI Ross Rice, poco después de las 9 a.m. del 24 de septiembre llegó un hombre al banco Old Second Bank en la cuadra 500 de Redwood Drive.
Rice explicó que el hombre le entregó al cajero una nota exigiendo dinero. El hombre nunca enseñó ningún arma y nadie resultó herido en el asalto. No se informó de la cantidad exacta que se llevó el asaltante, quien fue visto por última vez corriendo en dirección este.
El asaltante es descrito como un hombre de raza negra, aproximadamente entre seis pies y seis pies cuatro pulgadas de altura, complexión media, de entre 25 y30 años de edad. Rice dijo que el hombre traía puesto un gorro negro, un abrigo negro y tenía un tatuaje en el cuello.
Se pide a cualquier persona con información sobre este asalto que llame a la oficina de Chicago del FBI al (312) 421-6700 o a la policía local.

AURORA – The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is investigating the robbery of a bank branch on the west side of Aurora earlier this week.
According to FBI spokesman Ross Rice, shortly after 9 a.m. Sept. 24, a man entered the Old Second Bank branch located in the 500 block of Redwood Drive.
Rice said the man handed over a note to the teller demanding money. The man never showed a weapon and nobody was hurt in the robbery. The amount of money taken by the man was not disclosed. The man was last seen
running east from the bank.The suspect is described as a black man,
between 6-foot and 6-foot-4, medium build, between 25 and 30 years old. Rice said the man was wearing a black hat, black coat and had a tattoo on his neck.
Anyone with information about this robbery is asked to call the FBI Chicago office at (312) 421-6700 or local police.
According to the FBI there have been 141 bank robberies in the Chicago area this year. The last bank robbery in Aurora took place in July, when a PNC branch was targeted. The suspect in that robbery was arrested and now faces federal charges.

MANAGUA, NICARAGUA – El Ministerio Público de Nicaragua dijo que pedirá la ayuda de México para continuar su investigación de un supuesto uno inadecuado de marcas registradas. El incidente involucra a seis vehículos que supuestamente pertenecen a la cadena mexicana Televisa y que fueron incautados en agosto de este año.
Durante una conferencia de prensa dos oficiales de la fiscalía nicaragüense dijeron que usarán programas de asistencia legal mutua disponibles mediante la cancillería para obtener información sobre el caso.
Lo que ellos buscan es evidencia que pueda
ser usada contra 18 ciudadanos mexicanos que fueron arrestados y acusados de supuesto lavado de dinero, crimen organizado y tráfico internacional de drogas. Cuando los mexicanos fueron arrestados ellos tenían en su poder 9.2 millones de dólares en efectivo.

La cadena mexicana Televisa dice que no son de ellos, y varios medios informativos de México dicen lo contrario.

Recapturan a cinco fugados de Piedras Negras, otro muere en enfrentamiento

PIEDRAS NEGRAS, COAHUILA – Una semana después de que 131 prisioneros se escaparan de una prisión en Piedras Negras, cerca de la frontera entre México y Estados Unidos, cinco han sido capturados y otro más resultó muerto en un enfrentamiento con las autoridades.
Tres de los hombres fueron arrestados la semana pasada, mientras que dos más fueron arrestados el 25 de septiembre. Todavía quedan 125 reos prófugos.
El vocero de Seguridad Pública del estado, Sergio Sisbeles Alvarado, dijo que el cuarto fugitivo había sido arrestado después de un enfrentamiento con las autoridades en el municipio de Arteaga.
Sisbeles Alvarado dijo que un enfrentamiento entre el Ejército Mexicano y uno de los fugitivos, identificado como Roberto Francisco Elizondo López, se registró en la carretera federal Matehuala-Saltillo. Este tiroteo
sucedió alrededor de las 11 a.m. Después de ser arrestado las autoridades decomisaron armas de grueso calibre y arrestaron a otra persona.
También el 25 de septiembre se registró un segundo enfrentamiento entre autoridades y fugitivos. Cuando el tiroteo terminó uno de los hombres había muerto y el segundo fue tomado bajo custodia.
Un reporte de la Secretaría de Seguridad Pública indicó que el hombre abatido había sido identificado como Ángel Celestino Ramírez Díaz, uno de los hombres que había escapado del penal de Piedras Negras.
Después del arresto las autoridades decomisaron un arma tipo Barrett, un rifle de asalto AK-47 y puntas de metal para ponchar llantas, que se encontraban en posesión del reo abatido al momento del enfrentamiento.

Three of them were arrested last week, two more on Sept. 25 and one was killed. There are
still 125 inmates on the run.The spokesperson for Public Safety in Coahuila,
Sergio Sisbeles Alvarado, said the fourth man was taken into custody after a shooting with authorities in the Municipality of Arteaga.
Also on Sept. 25 a second confrontation took place between authorities and fugitives. When the shooting ended, one of the men had been killed and a second one was taken into custody.

En 1990 el gobierno de los Estados Unidos autorizó un programa poco conocido dando a ciertas personas estatus legal en los Estados Unidos.
El estatus legal para inmigrantes especiales juveniles (SL6) permite que cientos de inmigrantes cada año se conviertan en residentes permanentes legales. Esto permite a los inmigrantes especiales juveniles obtener su tarjeta verde o tarjeta de residencia permanente.
El programa de estatus legal para inmigrantes especiales juveniles es parte de la ley federal de inmigración que fue creada para personas dependientes del estado (gobierno), quienes terminaron en el sistema de cuidado de crianza después de haber sido abandonados, abusados o descuidados por sus familiares.
Una vez que un joven recibe este estatus especial de inmigrante ellos nunca podrán pedir a sus padres para que obtengan la residencia permanente, y solo podrán hacer peticiones para sus hermanos para que ellos obtengan la residencia legal después de que ellos se han convertido en ciudadanos.
En los últimos 15 años más de 10 mil jóvenes inmigrantes ilegales se han convertido en residentes permanentes de los Estados Unidos bajo este programa.
En el Estado de Illinois, para adquirir este tipo de estatus usted tendrá que estar bajo el cuidado del Departamento de Servicios para Niños y Familias (DCFS), que es una agencia del Estado de Illinois. Usted no puede simplemente hacer una solicitud para este tipo de beneficio. Usted debe ser parte del sistema de cuidado de crianza.
Para ser elegible para este programa usted debe tener menos de 21 años de edad el día que somete la solicitud.
Una corte estatal de los Estados Unidos debe decidir:1) Declarar que usted es un dependiente de la corte o debe
colocarlo con una agencia estatal, una agencia privada o una persona privada;
2) Que no es en su mejor interés el que usted vuelva a su país de origen;
3) Que usted no puede ser reunido con uno de sus padres debido a lo siguiente: abuso, abandono, descuido u otra razón similar bajo las leyes estatales.
La orden del estado debe estar vigente al momento de que usted hace la solicitud para la residencia permanente.

In 1990, the U.S. government passed a little-known program giving certain individuals legal status in the United States.
The legal status for special immigrant juveniles (SL6) allows hundreds of immigrants each year to become legal permanent residents. This allows the special immigrant juveniles to obtain a green card, i.e., permanent residency.
The special immigrant juvenile status program is a federal immigration law which was created for dependents of the state (government) who ended up in the foster care system after being abandoned, abused, or neglected by their relatives.
Once a juvenile receives this special immigrant status they can never petition for their parents to get green cards, and can only petition for their siblings to get green cards after they themselves have become U.S. citizens.
In the last 15 years over 10,000 young illegal immigrants have become legal permanent residents of the United States under this
program. In the State of Illinois, to acquire this type
of status you will have to be in the care of the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), which is a State of Illinois agency. You cannot just apply for this type of benefit. You must be in the foster care system.
To be eligible for this program you must be under the age of 21 on the filing date.
A state court in the United States must decide:
1) To declare that you are a dependent of the court or to legally place you with a state agency, a private agency or a private person;
2) It is not in the best interest to return to your home country;
3) You cannot be reunited with a parent because of any of the following: abuse, abandonment, neglect, similar reason under state law.
Your state order must be in effect on the filing date of your application for permanent residency.
You cannot be married, both when you file an application and when USCIS makes a
decision on your application.You must be in the United States at the time
you file.If approved, USCIS will grant you
permanent residence status. Then, in five years after being a permanent resident, if you are still a person of good moral character, have no other disqualifying criminal issues, you can apply for U.S. citizenship.

AURORA – A teen was severely injured in a fight last week, according to authorities.
Aurora Police spokesman Dan Ferrelli said the incident took place at about 3 p.m. Sept. 19, when authorities received a report of a large group fighting at the corner of Jackson Street and North Avenue.
When authorities arrived, the group dispersed.About 10 minutes later police received another report of a large group of
people fighting in the area of Union Street and North Avenue, about half a mile from the original fight site.
Ferrelli said that when police arrived they saw a large group of people fighting, but those involved had fled.
Officers then found a 15-year-old boy on the ground that had been severely beaten and had serious head injuries. The teen, who was not identified, was taken to a local hospital and then transferred to another hospital near Chicago for treatment. Ferrelli said the teen was expected to survive the attack.
Meanwhile, police said they believe the attack was gang-related and the investigation continues. Nobody was arrested.
A spokesman for the East Aurora School District said the teen was a student at an alternative school in the district, but the day of the attack he had not been in school.
Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to call Aurora detectives at (630) 256-5500 or CrimeStoppers at (630) 892-1000. Calls to CrimeStoppers can qualify for a cash reward of up to $5,000.

AURORA – La ciudad estará realizando pruebas en el sistema de drenaje sanitario, por lo que no se sorprenda si ve aparecer humo blanco en algunas áreas de la ciudad.
Tanto la ciudad como el Distrito de Reclamación de Agua Fox Metro están investigando las condiciones del sistema de drenaje sanitario para identificar materiales extraños que entran en el sistema.
Cuadrillas de trabajadores comenzaron este proceso el 24 de septiembre, realizando pruebas en el sistema de drenaje al enviar humo blanco bajo presión en las alcantarillas de drenaje, forzando el humo a salir por las ventilas de plomería de
techos, canales de desagüe, drenaje de ventanas y tuberías dañadas.
Es por esto que en algunos casos el humo va a entrar a las casas o puede ser visible en el exterior.
Los residentes deben estar tranquilos, ya que este humo no es tóxico, no deja residuo y no mancha ni deja corrosión.
Los negocios y residentes de las áreas afectadas recibirán notificación por correo de las zonas en donde se realizarán estas pruebas. Además, se distribuirán colgantes amarillos en las puertas de la zona donde se van a realizar las pruebas aproximadamente 24 horas antes de que se realice el proceso.
Las áreas en las que se realizarán las pruebas
son: Redwood Drive, Opal Drive y Blueberry Lane; Oliver y Sard Avenues; Beau Ridge Drive y Nantucket Road; Ashland Avenue y Hinkley Street; y en el cercano oeste, en el área delimitada por River Street, Plum Street, Highland Avenue y Gale Street.
Los residentes y negocios en las áreas afectadas deben vaciar varios galones de agua en sus tuberías cuando reciban el aviso amarillo. Esto evitará que el humo entre el hogar o el edificio.

AURORA – The city will be conducting a sanitary sewer testing, so don’t be surprised if you see white smoke appearing in certain areas of the city.
Both the city and the Fox Metro Water Reclamation District are investigating the conditions of sanitary sewers to identify foreign materials entering the system.
Crews started working on this project Sept. 24, testing the sewers by blowing white smoke under pressure into sanitary manholes, forcing the smoke to exit through the roof plumbing vents, downspouts, window well drains and cracked pipes. This is why in some instances smoke will be visible outdoors or inside homes.
Residents should not be alarmed, as the smoke is non-toxic, leaves no residue and will not stain or corrode.
Businesses and residents in test areas will be notified by mail of the zones where the tests will be
conducted. Also, there will be door hangers distributed in the affected area about 24 hours in advance of the testing.
The areas were testing is being conducted are:
Redwood Drive, Opal Drive and Blueberry Lane; Oliver and Sard Avenues; Beau Ridge Drive and Nantucket Road; Ashland Avenue and Hinkley Street; and on the near west side, in an area bounded by River Street, Plum Street, Highland Avenue and Gale Street.
Residents and business owners in affected areas must pour several gallons of water down the drains when they receive the yellow door hanger. This will prevent the smoke from coming into the home or building.

AURORA – Un adolescente resultó seriamente herido en un pleito la semana pasada, dijeron las autoridades.
De acuerdo al vocero de la policía, Dan Ferrelli, el incidente se registró alrededor de las 3 p.m. del 19 de septiembre, cuando las autoridades recibieron un llamado de un grupo grande de personas que se estaban peleando en la esquina de las calles Jackson Street y North Avenue. Al llegar las autoridades, los participantes se dispersaron.
Alrededor de 10 minutos después la policía recibió otra llamada de un grupo grande de personas enfrascadas en una pelea, ahora en el área de las calles North Street y Union Street, aproximadamente a media milla del pleito original.

Ferrelli dijo que se esperaba que el joven sobreviviera al ataque.

AURORA – The City of Aurora and the International Association of Firefighters Local 99, which represents 161 employees from firefighters to lieutenants, have reached a three-year agreement.
The agreement is retroactive to Jan. 1, 2011 and ends Dec. 31, 2013. This contract establishes a salary increase of 1.25 percent retroactive to 2011, and a 2.5 percent increase for 2012 and 2014. Alex Alexandrou, administrative services officer for the city of Aurora, said the salary increase had been taken into consideration in the 2012 city budget.
Besides the salary increase, the contract stipulates that the
firefighters now will be part of the city’s healthcare plan, in which employees pay a share of their actual premiums related to the coverage they select, instead of paying a flat fee based on their salaries regardless of their coverage. This will allow the city to save money on insurance costs, however, the savings won’t be known until all affected employees select their level of coverage.
The contract was ratified by union members on Sept. 6 and it is expected to be considered by City Council on Oct. 9.
“This agreement is fair to everyone involved and means that Aurora will be able to attract and retain the best firefighters in the area,” Mayor Tom Weisner said.

AURORA – Un residente del Condado de Cook ha sido sentenciado a cinco años de prisión, por participar en un fraude con cheques falsos.
Rodney Gaiter, de 44 años y cuya última dirección conocida era en la cuadra 1100 de Florence Avenue en Westmont, se declaró culpable el 18 de julio de este año de un cargo de falsificación, una felonía.
De acuerdo al as autoridades, el 3 de diciembre de 2010 Gaiter llevó un cheque falso de pago de nómina hecho a nombre de él por 987 dólares y 62 centavos a una
tienda en la cuadra 2900 de Kirk Road en Aurora, donde cambió el cheque. Esta transacción, dijeron las autoridades, era parte de un fraude regional de falsificación.
Posteriormente, la tienda determinó que el cheque era falso y lo reportó a la policía de Aurora. La investigación llevó a las autoridades a Gaiter y determinaron que él era parte de un proyecto de fraude regional.
Las otras personas involucradas en este fraude ya han sido declaradas culpables de cargos federales.
Durante la sentencia los fiscales presentaron evidencia del largo historial criminal de Gaiter, quien
ha sido encontrado culpable en múltiples ocasiones de cargos de robo y drogas en los condados de Cook y Tazewell en los últimos 27 años.

AURORA – A Cook County resident has been sentenced to five years in prison for his role in a check-forging scheme.
Rodney Gaiter, 44, whose last known address was the 1100 block of Florence Avenue in Westmont, pleaded guilty July 18 of one count of forgery, a felony.
According to authorities, on Dec. 3, 2010 Gaiter took a fake payroll check made out to him for $987.62 to a store located in the 2900 block of Kirk Road in Aurora, where he cashed it. This transaction, according to authorities was part of a regional forgery scheme.
Later on, store officials determined the check was a fake and reported the incident to Aurora Police. The investigation led authorities to Gaiter and they determined that he was part of a larger, regional scheme.
Others involved in this scheme have been convicted on federal charges.
During the sentencing phase, prosecutors presented evidence of Gaiter’s long criminal history, including multiple drug and theft convictions in Cook and Tazewell counties in the last 27 years.
Gaiter was credited for at least 168 days he has spent at the Kane County jail.

AURORA – The former president of the Aurora Firefighters Credit Union has been charged with theft, after she allegedly misappropriated $36,000 from this organization in a five-year span.
Anne M. Schaal, 66, of the 0-99 block of Birchwood Court in Sugar Grove, turned herself in to authorities last week and is now free on bond. Her next court date is Oct. 5.
She is facing up to seven years in prison for the most severe theft charge of over $10,000. She also may be sentenced to probation.
According to authorities, besides this process she also faces a lawsuit by the credit union.
Court documents indicate that a gambling addiction made Schaal steal money from the credit union, and also she lost about $580,000 belonging to her and her husband.
Information available in the lawsuit indicates that Schaal had
been president of this organization from July 1996 to November 2011 and had stolen $36,076 from the credit union through misuse of the union’s credit cards and ghost payments logged in the ledger. The lawsuit also indicates that the credit union had to pay over $20,000 to a temporary worker to keep this organization running while a permanent replacement could be found.
“The (Aurora Firefighters Credit Union) recently discovered that while Anne was an employee and president of the AFFCU, she intentionally used AFFCU funds and processes for improper uses, including for her personal benefit, and committed other wrongful acts,” the lawsuit states.
In this case, the credit union says she must be considering responsible for breach of contract and fiduciary duty as well as fraud. She is scheduled to go back to court on Nov. 29.

AURORA – La Ciudad de Aurora y la sección 99 de la Asociación Internacional de Bomberos, que representa a 161 personas con rango de bomberos a tenientes dentro del departamento, han llegado a un acuerdo para un contrato laboral por tres años.
El contrato es retroactivo a enero 1 de 2011 y termina el 31 de diciembre de 2013. Este contrato establece un aumento salarial anual de 1.25 porciento retroactivo a 2011 y un aumento del 2.5 por ciento para 2012 y 2013. El oficial de servicios administrativos de la ciudad Alex Alexandrou dijo que estos aumentos salariales estaban considerados en el presupuesto de la ciudad para 2012.
Además del aumento salarial, el
contrato estipula que los bomberos van a participar en el plan de cobertura médica de la ciudad, en el que los empleados pagan una parte de los costos en base al plan que escojan, en vez de pagar un porcentaje de su salario sin importar la cobertura seleccionada. ROCKFORD – El juicio del primero de dos hermanos acusados de un asesinato ocurrido en 2010 comenzó esta semana.
Ricardo Jaimes, de 20 años y su hermano Isaac, de 18, están acusados del asesinato en primer grado de DeMarkis Robinson, de 16 años de edad. Este asesinato ocurrió el 27 de mayo de 2010.
De acuerdo a las autoridades, Isaac fue quien disparó el gatillo del arma, pero su hermano Ricardo será juzgado primero.
Un testigo identificó a Ricardo como el chofer del vehículo de donde se hicieron los disparos que mataron a Robinson.
De acuerdo al juez John Truitt, Ricardo puede ser sentenciado a 70 años en prisión por el asesinato en primer grado, y probablemente hasta 45 años más por el intento de asesinato de un joven que acompañaba a Robinson.
De acuerdo a la fiscalía, Ricardo rechazó una oferta de ellos de 25años en prisión a cambio de declararse culpable y eligió ser sometido ajuicio.
Robinson, quien era estudiante en la Escuela Preparatoria East, y los hermanos Jaimes aparentemente eran miembros de pandillas rivales que estaban involucrados en una disputa. La madre de Robinson, Linda McDowell, dijo que en los días anteriores al asesinato, los hermanos Jaimes habían llamado a la casa amenazando a Robinson.
La señora McDowell dijo que ella creía que el padrastro del joven había arreglado la situación. Mencionó que la familia había estado trabajando para convencer al joven de alejarse de las pandillas y concentrase

ROCKFORD – Un incendio registrado la tarde del 22 de septiembre en una casa sola en la cuadra 1400 de Mulberry Street pudo haber sido intencional.
Mike Rotolo, investigador del departamento de bomberos de Rockford, dijo que los bomberos habían acudido a reportes de una casa en llamas alrededor de las 5:15 de la tarde. El investigador mencionó que la evidencia indica que es muy probable que este haya sido un incendio provocado que empezó cuando alguien le prendió fuego a un colchón en el sótano de
la vivienda.Los bomberos entraron a la

ROCKFORD – A fire reported the afternoon of Sept. 22 in an abandoned home in the 1400 block of Mulberry Street could have been arson.
Mike Rotolo, a Rockford Fire Department investigator, said the
firefighters had attended call of a house fire at about 5:15 p.m. The investigator said that evidence indicates that is very likely that this was an intentional fire that started when someone lit fire to a mattress in the home’s basement.
Firefighters entered the structure through a basement window.
First they attacked the fire from the outside and later entered the house to confirm the structural integrity of the construction and to finish their job. Nobody was hurt and the incident remains under investigation.
Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Rockford police at (815) 987-5824 or CrimeStoppers at (815) 963-7867.
An hour before this fire was reported, another fire at another abandoned home was phoned in. That property is located at 17th Street and Sixth Avenue. Firefighters said in this case it seems someone had been inside the house recently and they found drug paraphernalia inside. This incident is also under investigation.

ROCKFORD – The trial of the first of two brothers charged with a 2010 murder started this week.
Ricardo Jaimes, 20, and his brother Isaac, 18, are charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of DeMarkis Robinson, 16. The murder took place May 27, 2010.
According to authorities, Isaac was the shooter but his brother Ricardo will go to trial first.
A witness identified Ricardo as the driver of the vehicle where the shots that killed Robinson were fired from.
According to Judge John Truitt, Ricardo could be sentenced to up to 70 years in prison for the first-degree murder charge, plus up to 45 additional years for attempted murder of another teen that was with Robinson.
According to prosecutors, Ricardo rejected a plea deal involving a 25 year prison sentence, and instead decided to go to trial.
Robinson, who was a student at East High School, and the Jaimes brothers were allegedly members of rival gangs and were involved in a dispute. Robinson’s mother, Linda McDowell, said that in the days prior to the murder, the Jaimes brothers had called her house and had threatened Robinson.
McDowell said she thought the boy’s stepfather had defused the situation. She said the family had been working to convince Robinson to leave the gangs behind and concentrate in school.
Robinson was shot to death after school the day after he promised to concentrate his efforts in his education.
The trial is expected to wrap up during the first week of October.

ELGIN – Un adolescente de 18 años de edad que se pasó un señalamiento de alto la madrugada del 23 de septiembre causó un accidente que mandó al hospital a cuatro personas, incluido el chofer.
Las autoridades indicaron que el chofer, Luis Romo, de la cuadra 0-99 de Devonshire Circle, fue hospitalizado para recibir tratamiento. Al momento del accidente Romo tenía un nivel de alcohol en la sangre casi al doble del límite legal.

ELGIN – An 18-year-old that went through a stop sign early Sept. 23 caused a crash that sent four people to the hospital, including himself.
Authorities said the driver, Luis Romo, of the 0-99 block of Devonshire Circle, was sent to the hospital to get treatment. At the time of the crash his blood alcohol level was almost twice the legal limit.
Elgin police commander Glenn Theriault said Romo was driving a Chevy Silverado truck west on Hastings, when he didn’t stop at the stop sign on the corner of Hastings and Liberty shortly before 1 a.m.. He crashed into an SUV travelling north on Liberty Street.
The SUV was pushed against a third car with such force that the third vehicle suffered extensive damage. Also, the floor of the SUV truck came out.
Theriault said Romo’s truck kept going on
the sidewalk of Liberty Street, taking with it about 100 ft. of chain link fencing. He said the support poles for the fence pierced the hood, the windshield, the motor compartment and the floor of the vehicle.
Authorities said the three men riding in the SUV were taken to local hospitals to receive treatment for severe injuries, but their lives were not at risk.
The three men were identified as Julio Cesar Velazquez, 20, the SUV driver; Emmanuel Martinez, 20; and Mizraim Martinez, 25.
Fire Department officials said they had to use hydraulic extrication equipment to get all four men out of their vehicles. Meanwhile, Liberty Street was closed to traffic until about 5:30 a.m. while the investigation took place.
Theriault said Romo had been charged with felony DUI, operation of an uninsured vehicle while causing bodily harm and stop sign violation.

El grupo involucrado en el pleito se fue la cuadra 0-100 de South State Street, donde continuaron el pleito y donde posteriormente se realizaron los dos arrestos.
De acuerdo a reportes, la víctima de 21 años de edad estaba severamente
intoxicada cuando comenzó a gritarle a otro hombre y lo golpeó. Cuando menos otras seis personas se unieron al pleito.
Autoridades indicaron que la víctima recibió tratamiento en un hospital local y fue dado de alta.

ELGIN – An Elgin man was stabbed last weekend during a fight with a member of his own gang. Police said the incident happened late Sept. 22, during an altercation provoked when the victim punched a member of his own gang. Two men have been arrested in the incident.
Damian Franco, 21, of the 600 block of Grace Street, and a 16-year-old male were charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery in a public way and mob action. All the charges are felonies.
Authorities said the victim had been
stabbed on the upper chest near his shoulder. Elgin police commander Glenn Theriault said officers responded to a report of a fight at a restaurant in the 0-100 block of North Spring Street at about 11 a.m. Sept. 22. There, they dispersed the crowd. The group involved in the fight moved to the 0-100 block of South State Street, where they continued the fight and where the two men were arrested.
According to reports, the 21-year-old victim was severely intoxicated when he started yelling at another man and punched him. At least other six people joined in the fight.
Authorities said the victim was treated and released at a local hospital.

Jesús K. Martínez, de 22 años de edad y residente de la cuadra 300 de Orchard Street en Elgin, se declaró culpable de un cargo de robo agravado a cambio de una sentencia de 10 años en prisión.
De acuerdo a las autoridades, alrededor de las 2 p.m. del 23 de julio de 2012 Martínez se acercó a la víctima en la cuadra 500 de North McLean Boulevard, y le dijo que tenía mercancía robada y le preguntó a la víctima si estaba interesada en comprar esta mercancía.
La víctima llevó a Martínez a un sitio cerca
de las calles South Street y Morgan. Ahí ambos hombres salieron del vehículo de la víctima y entraron a un edificio de apartamentos
cercano. Una vez adentro Martínez sacó lo que parecía ser un arma de fuego y, apuntándole a la víctima, le exigió dinero.
La víctima le dio a Martínez aproximadamente 860 dólares en efectivo y cheques y éste escapo a pie. L victima llamó a las autoridades y en cuestión de minutos arrestaron a Martínez.
Al momento del robo Martínez estaba en libertad condicional por
una sentencia de robo en 2011.Martínez recibió crédito por cuando menos
59 días que pasó en la cárcel del Condado de Kane.

ELGIN –An Elgin man has pleaded guilty to robbing a man in July of this year.
Jesus K. Martinez, 22, of the 300 block of Orchard Street in Elgin, pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated robbery. In exchange for his guilty plea, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
According to authorities, at about 2 p.m. July 23, 2012, Martinez approached the victim in the 500 block of North McLean Blvd and told the victim he had stolen merchandize and asked him if he was interested in buying it.
The victim took Martinez to a place near South Street and Morgan. There, both men exited the victim’s car and entered an apartment building nearby. Once inside, Martinez took out what appeared to be a handgun, pointed it at the victim and demanded money.
The victim gave Martinez about $860 in cash and check and Martinez fled on foot. The victim then called authorities and Martinez was arrested a short time later.
At the time of the robbery Martinez was on parole for a 2011 theft conviction.
Martinez received credit for at least 59 days he spent at the Kane County jail.

HERMOSILLO, SONORA – El asesinato del diputado electo Eduardo Castro Luque, fue planeado por su suplente, de acuerdo a información proporcionada por las autoridades.
Castro Luque fue asesinado afuera de su casa la noche del 14 de septiembre en Ciudad Obregón, Sonora.
El fiscal del estado de Sonora, Carlos Alberto Navarro Sugich, dijo que el suplente, de nombre Manuel Alberto Fernández Félix, quien tiene 24 años de edad, planeó y preparó el homicidio junto con otras cuatro personas.
“Junto a Fernández Félix conspiraron diversas personas como Juan Manuel Rodríguez Hernández y Sergio Román Gil Zavala, quienes garantizaron su apoyo y colaboración a cambio de diversos favores y privilegios cuando fuera diputado local; además de Wilver Joel Sánchez Quezada, quien recibió el pago de 10 mil pesos por contratar a Wilfrido Álvarez Félix, de apodo ‘El Willy’, como actor material del homicidio a cambio de 40 mil pesos”, dijo el fiscal estatal.
Al abrirse la convocatoria electoral, Eduardo Castro Luque y Manuel Alberto Fernández Félix participaron en las elecciones de 2012 como candidatos del PRI, el primero como titular y el segundo como suplente, a diputado estatal por Ciudad Obregón, en el municipio de Cajeme al sur del estado.
Una vez que este equipo resultó electo, la Procuraduría General de Justicia del Estado
(PGJE) indicó que Fernández Félix había iniciado la conspiración contra el empresario Casto Luque, quien era un novato en materia política.
En una conferencia de prensa las autoridades presentaron un video en el que el supuesto autor material del crimen narra los hechos a sangre fría:
“Me indicaron cuál era la casa de la víctima, me dieron un arma y la moto; le di vueltas a la casa del señor (Castro Luque) mientras éste llegaba, me paré afuera y fingí que se me había descompuesto y en eso llegó y le pedí que me prestara una llave, pero me dijo que no tenía y salió en compañía de otra persona. A los 15 minutos regresó y le insistí que me prestara una herramienta, pero me dijo que él no era ni mecánico ni nada por el estilo, y fue ahí cuando le disparé”, dijo el hombre en la grabación.
Mientras tanto otro de los acusados de participar en esta conspiración, Sergio Román Gil Zavala, dijo que a finales de agosto Fernández Félix le pidió ayuda específicamente para eliminar al diputado electo. A cambio, le prometió apoyarlo una vez que estuviera en el congreso estatal.
Hasta el momento el autor intelectual del asesinato, Fernández Félix, se encuentra prófugo de la justicia. Los otros involucrados y los materiales utilizados en el asesinato están bajo custodia de la justicia.
El estado puede tardarse hasta seis meses en convocar a elecciones para encontrar el reemplazo del diputado asesinado.

Castro Luque was murdered outside his home the night of Sept. 14 in Ciudad Obregon, in the northern state of Sonora.
The state’s Attorney General, Carlos Alberto Navarro Sugich said the replacement, identified as Manuel Alberto Fernandez Felix, 24, planned and prepared the murder along with other four accomplices.
“Along with Fernandez Felix there were several conspirators like Juan Manuel Rodriguez Hernandez and Sergio Roman Gil Zavala, who guaranteed their support and collaboration in exchange for favors and privileges once he would become a local deputy; also there is Wilver Joel Sanchez Quezada, who received the payment of 10,000 pesos for hiring Wilfrido Alvarez Felix, alias ‘El Willy’, as the material perpetrator of the homicide in exchange for 40,000 pesos,” Navarro Sugich said.
During the past election season Eduardo Castro Luque and Manuel Alberto Fernandez Felix were involved as PRI candidates, Castro Luque as deputy candidate and Fernandez Felix as his replacement. They were candidates to the state legislature
for the district of Ciudad Obregon in the municipality of Cajeme in the southern section of the state.
Once the pair was elected, authorities from the Sonora Attorney General’s office (PGR) said Fernandez Felix started a conspiracy against Castro Luque, a businessman who was running for office for the first time.
During a press conference authorities presented a video in which the alleged gunman described the way he killed the politician:
“I was told which was the victim’s house, I was given a weapon and a motorcycle; I drove around the man’s (Castro Luque) house while he arrived, I stopped outside and I pretended (the motorcycle) it was broken down. Then he arrived and I asked him to lend me a tool, but he said he didn’t have one and left along with another person. 15 minutes later he returned, I insisted in borrowing a tool from him, but he said he was not a mechanic or anything like that, and that’s when I shot him,” the man said.
Another one of the accomplices, Sergio Roman Gil Zavala, said that in late august Fernandez Felix had asked him specifically to help him get rid of the deputy-elect. In exchange, he promised to provide support once he was part of the state legislature.
Until today Fernandez Felix is on the run. The other four accomplices and the materials used in the murder are in police custody.

De acuerdo a las autoridades, alrededor de las 4:40 p.m. del 24 de septiembre un grupo de personas llegó al cementerio Jardines del Tiempo, para el entierro de uno de sus familiares, quien había sido asesinado en una población cercana el 22 de septiembre.
Ricardo Valdés, residente del ejido Tacubaya en el municipio de San Pedro de las Colonias, fue encontrado muerto dentro de un vehículo BMW, cuyo número de serie había sido alterado.
Cuando el cortejo fúnebre llegó al cementerio, un grupo de hombres armados se presentó ahí, descendiendo de tres
camionetas de modelo reciente, y abrieron fuego sobre los asistentes al funeral.
Las autoridades informaron que algunos miembros del cortejo fúnebre repelieron la agresión. Varias armas fueron encontradas dentro del cementerio.
Oficiales de la Procuraduría Estatal de Justicia dijeron que el ataque era parte de una represalia entre grupos del crimen organizado que se están peleando el control de la zona de San Pedro.
Una de las víctimas es una niña de seis años, quien murió poco después de llegar a un hospital local. Otras 21 personas más fueron heridas, incluyendo seis menores de edad. De los heridos hay tres en condición crítica.

TORREON, COAHUILA – Nine people were killed and 21 were injured during a shooting at a local cemetery during a funeral service.
According to authorities, at about 4:40 p.m. Sept. 24, a group of people had arrived at the Gardens of Time cemetery for the burial of one of their relatives, who had been killed in a nearby town Sept. 22.
Ricardo Valdes, from the town of Tacubaya in the municipality of San Pedro de las Colonias had been found dead inside a BMW vehicle, whose VIN number had been altered.
When the funeral procession arrived at the cemetery, armed gunmen arrived as well in
three recent-model trucks and opened fire on the funeral procession.
Authorities said some members of the funeral party also responded to the attack with gunfire. Several weapons were located inside the cemetery.
Officials with the state’s Attorney General’s office said the attack was part of retaliation between organized crime groups that are fighting for control of the San Pedro territory.
One of the victims was a six-year-old girl, who died at a local hospital shortly after the attack. Twenty-one people were injured, including six minors. Three of the injured are in critical condition.
The cemetery is located next to the La Joya Military Camp.

Félix Félix es el consuegro del conocido narcotraficante Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán, ya que su hija está casada con Jesús Alfredo Guzmán Salazar, hijo del capo de Sinaloa.
Esta designación significa que las personas nombradas no pueden realizar negocios en Estados Unidos y sus bienes son confiscados.
Las autoridades dijeron que Félix Félix encabeza una red de distribución de narcóticos y lavado de dinero en Guadalajara y la Ciudad de México.
Félix Félix fue arrestado en marzo de 2011 por autoridades de México y Ecuador. Al momento de su arresto se le incautaron cuatro toneladas de cocaína.

WASHINGTON – The U.S. government has designated Victor Felix Felix and four other accomplices as drug dealers for their links to the Sinaloa Cartel.
Felix Felix is a relative of drug lord Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman. He is the father-in-law of Jesus Alfredo Guzman Salazar, son of ‘El Chapo’.
This designation means that those people cannot conduct businesses in the United States and their properties in the United States are seized by the government.
Authorities said Felix Felix heads a drug trafficking and money laundering network in
Guadalajara and Mexico City.Felix Felix was arrested in March of 2011
by Mexican and Ecuadorean authorities. At the time of the arrest authorities seized four tons of cocaine.
Then in June of 2011 a federal grand jury in Southern California indicated Felix Felix for drug trafficking and a month later the U.S. government requested his extradition.
“By exposing additional family members and other affiliates of the Sinaloa Cartel, this action builds on the Treasury Department’s
consistent efforts to disrupt Chapo Guzman’s drug trafficking activities,” said Adam Szubin, director of OFAC, in a statement.

Jr. fue multado con 10 mil dólares por la Comisión Mundial de Boxeo (WBC) y recibió órdenes de someterse a tratamiento de rehabilitación, después de que diera positivo a una prueba de
marihuana que le hicieron justo después de su derrota ante Sergio Martínez en Las Vegas.
El dinero de la multa será donado a una institución que ayuda a niños que padecen de cáncer.
“Le estamos pidiendo a Julio que asista a un centro de rehabilitación y queremos confirmación oficial de que lo ha hecho,” dijo la WBC en un comunicado. “La WBC le abrirá sus puertas de nuevo para que continúe con su
exitosa carrera, cuando sienta que puede regresar. La WBC no suspenderá a Julio César por un periodo indefinido, porque esto no le va a ayudar. La suspensión durará el tiempo que aconseje el centro de rehabilitación”.

MEXICO CITY – Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., son of the boxing legend of the same name, was fined by boxing authorities for testing positive in a drug test.
Jr. was fined with $10,000 by the World Boxing Commission (WBC) and was ordered to undergo rehab treatment, after he tested positive for marijuana in a drug test after his loss to Sergio Martinez in Las Vegas.
The money from the fine will be given to a charity organization that helps children with cancer.
“We also are asking Julio to attend a rehabilitation center and want official confirmation that he’s so doing,” said a press statement issued by the WBC. “The WBC will open its doors once again to him, so he can continue his successful career when he feels he can return. The WBC won’t suspend Julio Cesar for an undefined time, because that is not going to help him. The suspension will last as long as the rehab center advises.”
Meanwhile, the Nevada State Athletic Commission has not ruled on the sanctions that it will impose on the boxer. It is believed he will be suspended and will have to pay a fine much higher than the one imposed by the WBC.

política durante toda su vida. En la década de
los 80 Pat fue Directora de Voluntarios para el Hospital Benedictine de Kingston, Nueva York. Ahí ella reclutó y supervisó a más de 100 voluntarios .A mediados de la década de los 90
Pat se convirtió en la Directora Ejecutiva del Concilio de Barrington para el Envejecimiento. Ella estuvo a cargo de las operaciones diarias de la agencia, escribió propuestas para estipendios, realizó recaudaciones de fondos y también dio discursos a nombre de United Way. Mientras estuvo en Barrington, Pat se convirtió en la presidenta del Club Kiwanis, la primera mujer en tener ese puesto en ese club. An Activist at HeartPat is the 2nd Vice President
Chair of the Illinois Federation of Republican Women and serves as a key member of the National Federation of Republican Women. She has been honored with the opportunity to help educate women and help women in the political process. As a past president of the Naperville Area Republican Women’s Organization, Pat helped revive a club that had lost focus. By establishing goals and education seminars for its members, Pat was able to not only bring the club back to life but significantly increase their membership. Pat believes education was the key to that success and by getting women involved in the process through local women’s clubs helps each community grow and prosper.
Putting People Above PoliticsPat has put people above politics her whole life. In the 1980’s Pat was Director of Volunteers for Benedictine Hospital in Kingston, New York.
There she recruited and supervised more than 100 volunteers. In the mid-90’s, Pat became the Executive Director for the Barrington Council on Aging. She was in charge of daily operations of the agency, grant writing, fundraising and also did speaking on behalf of the United Way. While in Barrington Pat became the President of the Kiwanis Club, the first female ever to hold the position in that club. Currently Pat is on the board of directors at NCTV17 in Naperville, which is an informative public access television station.

and help them to strive to reach their fullest potential. In each of Pat’s leadership roles, she excels in communication through effective listening and welcoming input from others. Pat has a proven ability to delegate so that each one of her team members is exercising their area of expertise.
