3. eDART’s Current Product Range 3.1. Single eDart Valve
The valve is optimised for fine control of slurry flow from one flotation
machine to the next. The single eDart has a customisable body and flange
orientations to suit any plant.
Features
Body fully customised to plant layout.
Anti-burping bonnet to help avert air build up within the body.
Simple maintenance: All internal wearing parts can be inspected
and/or replaced without removing the valve body from the process
line.
Anti-Rotation Device on the plug.
Stroke Indication.
Applications
Due to the valves flexible orientation, it is ideal for plant retrofits.
Flotation level control.
Distribution box level control.
3.2. Dual eDart Valve
The Dual eDart – or external (to a vessel) dual Dart valve – has been
specifically designed with the flotation market in mind. It has been
optimised for slurry flow by having two plugs and seats within the body
giving this valve a high rangeability and fine control. Because the valve is
external to the vessel it is well suited to upgrade projects and where safety
is a concern, the valve, in conjunction with knife gate valves, may be
isolated and easily maintained.
Features
Body fully customised to plant layout.
Either front or side outlet (or both).
Cage guided plug on 250mm and larger.
Inspection hatch / sampler port.
Anti-burping bonnet to help avert air build up within the body.
Simple maintenance: All internal wearing parts can be inspected
and/or replaced without removing the valve body from the process
line.
Anti-Rotation Device on the plug.
Stroke Indication.
Applications
Flotation machine level control.
Distribution box level control.

3.3. iDart and TriDart Valves
eDART’s internal dart valves are bodiless valves suitable for
installation within the slurry tank, cell or box. There are two main
variations – self-contained triDart valves which are factory
calibrated and installed as a single unit; and iDart valves which
have a bolt down seat cage with only a shaft extending to the
actuation unit. Both types offer the stability and reliability
advantages of head-guiding where the plug is guided into the seat
with bars set out all around the plug.
Features
Modulating Control or On/Off applications.
Fully customisable design.
Anti-Rotation device on the plug.
Stroke indication.
Applications
Large flotation machines.
Deep distribution boxes (includes integral head guiding).
Splitter boxes.
Distribution boxes.
Conditioner tanks.
3.4. yDart Valve
Not all valves are located within or attached to a vessel. There are
instances when the valve is required in a pipeline, and where often a pinch
valve will suffice; there are times when the advantage offered by a dart
valve is needed. These inline dart valves have been specifically developed
to satisfy this need. The yDart, and its variations, have the same
polyurethane plug and seat as its standard i-, tri-, single-, and dual-Dart
configurations offering the same high level of slurry flow control.
Features
Compact design.
Fine control.
Linear characteristic.
Flow-Over the plug (important to reduce wear).
Bellows sealing arrangement on shaft
Removable bonnet for easy maintenance; valve body remains in the
process line.
Anti-Rotation Device on the shaft to prevent plug turning.
Stroke Indication.
Applications
Flotation Machine level control.
Inline slurry control valve.

3.5. Standard Pinch Valves
eDART’s control pinch valves are supplied with reduced or full bore pinch
sleeve with a single pneumatic actuator. These valves are value
engineered to give a simple, robust and low cost valve with flow control
capabilities.
Features
Standard Pinch Valve pinches from both the top and the bottom of
the sleeve
Applications
Coarse abrasive slurries
Slurry flow control
Fast flotation machines
Column cells
3.6. Flash Pinch Valves
These valves are our premier control pinch valves with two rigidly mounted
actuators and reduced bore sleeve used in high wear applications where
control is required.
Features
Reduced bore sleeve for better control
The pinched slit of the double actuator pinch valve is orientated
vertically so that the solids in suspension do not have to ride up
over the rubber “weir” in the pinched sleeve
Both actuators of the double actuator pinch valves are rigidly
attached to the frame that is bolted to the pipeline providing a more
stable valve
Applications
Coarse abrasive slurries
Slurry flow control
Fast flotation machines

3.7. Actuators
eDART Actuators’ unique design eliminates the use of tie-bars which
reduce the size and weight of the actuator. The biased spring options
allow for fail action but are piped Double Acting for superior control.. They
are specifically designed to be used on modulating control applications.
Features
Double piston seal and PTFE wear strip for reliably long service and
reduced wear
Variety of stroke lengths available

3.9. Dosing Valves
A Self Flushing Inline 3–Way Dosing Valve furthers eDART’s extensive
range of Slurry related products. This valve is used to neutralise tailings or
to control the PH of the medium.
Typically, rock lime (alkaline) in a ring main is continuously pumped
around the circuit because it tends to settle and separate. Normally a T
piece is inserted into the line (called a take off line) and the flow is
controlled with a standard valve i.e. knife or butterfly. When the valve is
closed the line is filled up with the stagnant lime and blocks. The dosing
valve eliminates this by being located directly in the ring main. As the
valve opens the vertical take-off line fills up. When closed the line gravity
flushes thus not leaving a pocket of pipe that can solidify.
Features
Self Flushing
Applications
Lime dosing lines slaking
Reagent dosing.
3.10. Dual Valve Controller
The eDART Dual Valve Controller (DVC) is used to control two valves which
act in parallel with a single 4-20mA signal from the control room.
Typically, this could be two parallel internal dart valves or the external
Dual eDart.
Features
The characteristic of the two valves and the desired characteristic of
the combined unit can be programmed
The Master and Slave output can be reversed periodically if the
application requires this to prevent sanding
The time between reversals and the time to complete a reversal is
programmable to prevent any surges to the plant
The DVC will produce a calibration certificate, including serial
number, and date for each calibration
One DVC can drive another DVC to control a third valve if required
The control algorithm is designed to prevent one valve operating
close to the seat whilst the other valve is fully open
The DVC requires a 24 VDC power source
Applications
eDART Dual eDarts
any number of valves acting in parallel

3.11. eDART Gas Flow Dampers and Large Rotary Actuators
eDART’s dampers are custom built to the application. The damper shown
here is rectangular of the louver type. Flow analysis using Computational
Fluid Dynamics software was done in house to determine flow
characteristics and to assist in the actuator design.
These dampers are also provided with eDART’s custom large rotary
actuator which is suitable for torque range up to 350kNm (A large African
Elephant on the end of a 6 ½ metre beam).
3.12. eDART Back Pressure Pipe
Back Pressure Pipes are situated on the final cell discharge of a flotation
bank. The pressure drop across the valve is commonly exaggerated due to
the downstream pipework arrangement. To improved performance of the
final cell and to reduce the pressure drop across the final valve, a back
pressure pipe is used to decouple the downstream pipework from the cell.
This not only assists the performance of the valve, but will also recover
half the height of the cell across the entire bank. For commonality of
spares, the valve can now be identical to the intermediate valves
upstream. eDART uses a CFD package called FloEFD to assist in the
design.
3.13. eDART Splitter / Distribution Boxes
eDART uses FloEFD to model inlets and outlets of distribution and splitter
boxes to optimise the design and get good mixing and even flow from the
outlets. Good box design will often have a dropbox in the inlet chamber to
cushion the inlet flow if fed from the top, an underflow weir to the boiling
chamber and an overflow weir which can be split easily to achieve the
desired output.

performance and designed to specific specifications important in
the operation of a slurry valve. eDART specifically recommends
the Siemens PS2 and Power Genex SER models.
3.15. eDART Globe Control Valves and Knife Gate Valves
eDART Globe Control Valves have been developed for
the aeration of flotation tanks. These valves benefit from
the standard eDART mounting of a high quality actuator
with full anti-rotation, linear feedback and stroke indication.
eDART Knife Gate Valves have been developed for the
isolation applications. Carbon Steel bodies with eDART
actuators are standard but full 316 Stainless Steel valves
with Viton seals and modular air receivers extend the range
(see image on the left).
