connecting with your partner can be heaven on Earth

words: by Heidi Albertiri and Lynda BayadaSundari Soul

THE PATH TO HAPPINESS WITHIN A RELATIONSHIP IS AN ONGOING jOURNEY THAT REqUIRES CONSTANT MAINTENANCE. Deepening your connection with your future partner can only benefit your relationship and build on the commitment you are about to make. Heidi and Lynda from Sundari Soul explain how recognising that marriage is a journey is the first step to building a deeper connection.

Being spiritual lends itself to natural therapies and earthiness. You may have heard hippies in the past say, “My body is a temple, man,” perhaps through a haze of pot smoke. That may be because they’ve cottoned on to the fact that, yes, actually, quick fixes in the way of pills and medication are exactly that, quick fixes.

Inevitably the problem will return as we’ve only masked the situation. Who said that the path to healing or anything for that matter didn’t take commitment instead of quick action? A bit like a marriage really. That’s something to behold, to nurture, to consistently grow and put time, effort, thought, feeling and LOVE into. It’s a journey, not a final destination.

just as nature has it’s cycles, so too does a marriage. We mark the beginning with a grandiose celebration such as a wedding- a planting of the seed so to speak. What better way to lay the foundations then with something that acknowledges that seed for what it is; something sacred to be protected and nourished ongoingly in order to develop solid roots.

We recognise like nature, that communion takes work and tender loving care, the seed of the initial planting wants to grow and evolve and with so many elements impacting on the day to day they ultimately effect and aid in this growth. Marriage is a journey.

At Sundari Soul we call on the individuality of your spirit and marry it with ceremony, cultivating a sacred space and environment that gives your marriage the best possible foundation and grounding for your relationship’s journey. We do all this with respect and nurturing of the environment and of ourselves because, like the hippy, we come in peace and love.

Heidi and Lynda run workshops and retreats in the birth place of spirituality, Bali. Set amongst breathtaking eco friendly resorts. It’s all about nurturing the mind, body and spirit. Discover yourself and build a deeper connection with your future partner at Sundari Souls, Soul Wedding retreats.

Shanti!

We recognise, like nature, that communion takes work and tender loving care...

ten tipsto upcycling your old clothes and transforming them into something amazing!

Looking for an eco alternative for your wedding dress that literally won’t cost the Earth? Why not up cycle! Finding a second hand dress and having it transformed into a garment that fits both your body shape and your style is so popular these days. Stylist, Sophie Hart and tailors Look Smart Alterations gives us their ten tips on up cycling and turning someone’s unwanted pretties into your own gorgeous garb.

1. Don’t be afraid – If you haven’t worn a piece or it has sat at the back of the wardrobe for years, chances are you aren’t going to wear it out anytime soon. So take the plunge, have a play with Up cycling and end up with something you love.

2. Start Small – If it’s your first go at Up cycling keep it simple. Why not try shortening a maxi or updating buttons?

3. Know your limitations. Major alterations to garments should always be left to the professionals find your local tailor and let them do what they do best.

4. Ask advice, your tailor may have a brilliant idea you may never have considered.

5. Look to current trends for ideas. Fashion rarely reinvents itself completely; it’s just about small changes. Transform last season’s sale rack into this seasons ‘it’ thing.

6. Think about what you like in your wardrobe and works for you, your body shape and lifestyle. Use this as a guide when deciding how to Up cycle your clothing.

7. Consider everything – change a neckline, shorten sleeves, add some darts – there’s so many parts of a garment that can be tweaked to bring them back on-trend.

8. Do Up cycle signature pieces – it’s hard to throw out your formal dress or first corporate suit, so don’t. Instead, look at what’s different about what’s in now, and make those alterations to your sentimental pieces. It’s cheaper than buying expensive, new versions and means you can spend more on cute accessories.

9. Once you’ve taken the first step into Up cycling, look in your wardrobe to see what else can be tailored and altered – it’s amazing what a few stitches can do to the look of an entire outfit.

10. Be creative - Play with Up cycling and you’ll find the possibilities are endless!

NESTLED IN THE PICTURESqUE WINE REGION OF THE HUNTER VALLEY IN THE SMALL VILLAGE OF BROKE IS A WEDDING VENUE WITH A CONSCIENCE. MARGAN RESTAURANT AND TASTING ROOM is a unique wedding destination that not only offers quality food, great wine and picturesque surroundings, but they are also leading the Hunter with a range of unique sustainability initiatives that will make your wedding a green affair!

Margan has its very own one acre kitchen garden that aims to reduce the Restaurant’s carbon footprint wherever possible. 90% of the produce on the menu is sourced from the garden, which provides fruit, vegetables and eggs for the restaurant, keeping in line with the company’s ethos of ‘Estate Grown- Estate Made’.

Restaurateur Lisa Margan said, “Our philosophy at Margan has always been to source as much fresh quality local produce as possible. We like to say that our ‘carbon footprint’ is 20 muddy footsteps from the garden to the backdoor of the kitchen.”

“Being farmers, we are committed to looking after the land so that it is able to look after us for generations to come. As such, we are determined to ensure our carbon footprint is as small as possible.”

“The sheer scale of our kitchen garden is quite unique to the Hunter. We take sustainability very seriously and have a dedicated horticulturist on hand to manage it using organic principles to ensure we steer clear of pesticides and herbicides whilst hand weeding wherever possible. This is just a fraction of what we do currently to ensure we are as responsible as we can be, and we’re excited to develop this even further,” said Mrs. Margan.

Margan Restaurant is registered with an Environmental Management Scheme which includes a commitment to reducing its Carbon Footprint in the following ways: • Offering all guests filtered rainwater at no charge,

rather than bottled mineral water• Recycling kitchen oil into bio diesel and reusing it to

fuel farm machinery• All kitchen food waste is fed to the chickens or

composted directly. The free range Margan chickens eat the scraps from the kitchen and the chicken house is then raked for the compost heap to enrich the soil

• Purchasing environmentally friendly products; organic and bio dynamic produce, fair trade products - including coffee, tea, sugar, chocolate wherever possible

Venue with a conscience

We like to say that our ‘carbon footprint’ is 20 muddy footsteps from the garden to the backdoor of the kitchen.

• Using quality Australian produce wherever possible and keeping to the ‘100 mile’ rule of thumb for sourcing

• The garden is maintained without the use of sprays and chemicals

• Sourcing free range eggs from chickens on the property• Serving their own estate grown and estate made wines

Margan allows couples the flexibility to create the perfect wedding day, be it a small and intimate affair or big, bold and fabulous! Margan’s dedicated wedding coordinator will also be on hand to make sure it is a unique and memorable day.

With two beautiful on-site ceremony options; a courtyard ceremony, which boasts an intimate and charming ambiance, or a Garden ceremony, overlooking the vineyards and with sweeping views to Yellow Rock and the striking Brokenback mountain range, Margan provides one of the Hunter’s most sought after Wedding venues.

With reception options of a courtyard, bar, restaurant and barrel room, Margan offers an endless array of eco options for each couple to tailor make their celebrations to suit their individual style.

Margan Restaurant is located at 1238 Milbrodale Road, Broke.

Wedding Stylist - Little Gray Station

Looking for something easy and eco to DIY for your wedding or event? Judi from Little Gray Station shows you how to make these gorgeous fabric chandeliers from vintage fabric for under $30!

Page 46: Eco Brides Magazine Issue 1

46 www.ecobrides.com.au

Start by laying out all of your required materials on a flat and clean surface: fabric, ruler, pencil, embroidery hoop and scissors. Lay your first piece of fabric out flat, measure 3cm strips apart by pencilling them on to the fabric.

Cut each strip neatly and put aside in a pile. Continue this process until all your strips are cut up. If your fabric is easy to tear, simply cut a small incision in the fabric and tear the fabric upwards (this will save a lot of time); however the result is slightly more rustic.

Once all of your fabric strips are cut, take your embroidery ring and separate the two rings (you will only require one ring). Start by tying one piece of fabric in a neat knot around the ring; continue this with each of your chosen fabric colours/patterns until there is no more room left on the ring. It is ok if your fabric is different length, it adds to the character of your DIY project.

To hang your fabric chandelier, select four pieces of fabric already tied to the ring and bring them together at the top and tie them in all together. Use these four pieces you have tied together to tie your fabric chandelier to your designated spot.

As you can see these three hanging fabric chandeliers were a perfect backdrop at a wedding ceremony!

Materials Required:

• Vintage fabric in your chosen colours. Look around your house or at your second hand stores

• Scissors• Embroidery hoops• Ruler• Pencil

Cost for this project is approximately $30.00 to make three hanging fabric chandeliers. BARGAIN!

This is a very simple but effective way to create your own string lantern which can be used as a very impressive hanging display or placed on your tables as a centerpiece.

what you need....latex biodegradable balloonsstringpva glue

They are a little fiddly and do require time for drying, but get your bridesmaids together for a little crafty working bee and you will have a very inexpensive but completely enchanting decoration for your special day.

Once the balloons are blown up to the size that you require (for a hanging display, blow them up to different sizes), hang them somewhere so you are able to use both hands to attach the twine. Now simply saturate the twine in the glue and wrap around the balloon making sure that there is an opening at the top wide enough to place your hand in to light the candle. Also ensure that the base has enough layers to be able to hold the candle. Now just leave to dry.

Page 51: Eco Brides Magazine Issue 1

51 www.ecobrides.com.au

Once the balloon is dry, pop it and you are left with your string lantern. You will need to attach string if you want to hang or just leave as is to use as a table decoration.

We think these would look amazing on mass hanging under a tree if you are having an evening, outdoor wedding or suspended above every table as a very intimate way of illuminating a marquee.

As a table centre they will cast intricate shadows across your tables. However you choose to display your lanterns they will no doubt leave a beautiful lasting impression on your guests and they will be astonished that they are handmade.

Yoga is an ancient philosophy that dates back thousands of years. It was designed as a path to spiritual enlightenment, but in modern times the yoga postures, breathing and meditation have found huge popularity as a pleasant form of exercise and effective stress management technique. For brides, grooms and the extended party, the practice of yoga has many benefits to offer.

It can help focus the mind and soothe the nervous system - great for managing the stress of wedding planning. It helps to balance endocrine function keeping hormones happy – great for riding the emotional wedding wave. It can help tone and boost the digestive system – great for fitting into the wedding dress or tuxedo. It can help improve posture and nourishes circulation – creating the healthy glow and statuesque pose ideal for the wedding pictures. It can encourage mental and physical strength and endurance – giving you the energy and stamina to enjoy the whole day. It also helps to release muscle tension and increases flexibility and joint mobility – great for the honeymoon!

Many have found that yoga, with its unique combination of muscle-toning and stress-busting techniques, is the perfect way to help you not only enjoy the task of picking out the wedding cake and enjoy eating it too!

Soy Good!words by Jasmin Ketchel | Lemon Canary.

Page 61: Eco Brides Magazine Issue 1

By using a biodegradable and sustainable soy wax candle! Take it one step further and use soy wax candles in vintage, recycled glass ware, give them to your guests as gifts and you have a truly eco friendly way of capturing that mood. jasmin Ketchel from Lemon Canary tells us about her soy wax products and how you can create a magical sensory experience for your guests.

You want to appeal to the senses on your special day. Visual senses are appeased by gorgeous settings and the attention to detail in the little things that make up your theme. Your food & wine is chosen to delight the taste buds and indulge in the simple pleasures, eyes tightly shut savouring every bite. Our sense of smell is the light switch to our most beautiful memories.

Scent your wedding to match your happiest memories and give your guests a little piece of this to take home, so that when they light their candles they are transported back to your magical, beautiful day.

Why Soy?

Soy’s wax is completely renewable. While the global reserves of oil shrink and paraffin prices increase, the only limit to the soy supply is how much we choose to grow. Paraffin candles release chemical pollutants such as acrolein, formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, toluene, benzene and acetone in to the air when burning, and that’s just to name a few, these may lead to health risks such as allergies, asthma and even cancer.

Soy is a pure clean and sustainable wax. In addition to sustainability, a well-made soy candle will burn cleanly and slowly. While the performance and beauty of soy candles speak for themselves, soy wax is truly an eco-friendly, biodegradable and sustainable product.

At Lemon Canary we can tailor a scent package to suit your wedding or event using high quality fragrances and essential oils blended with eco friendly soy wax and lead free cotton wicks. We source beautiful vintage glassware amongst others and can ‘dress’ our candles to match any mood. Choose from the Lemon Canary range or create your own. All of our candles are pure soy wax with cotton wicks, and hand poured with love.
