Near Field Communication (NFC)NFC is the ability to touch two devices together to exchange data. Simply touch an NFC-equipped device (such as an NFC powered smartphone) to one of our NFC capable printers and you’re able to scan and print directly from it.

You can send through a document to an NFC compatible printer without any Wifi connection.

iPrint & ScanThis is Brother’s own free app available from the Apple, Android and Windows app stores. Essentially, it is an app designed for printing and scanning from tablets and smart devices with printers that are in the same Wifi network as the device.

This has a few more features than Airprint such as Scanning, Selecting the type of paper and selecting a certain paper tray. As well as this, iPrint & Scan can distinguish different IP addresses of the printer. This means if you are in a large office with many of the same type of printer you can tell which one is which.

Inkjet vs LaserInkjets use liquid ink. Lasers are based on thermal technology. The quality of print in laser is crisper on plain paper than an inkjet. However, inkjet print quality is better for images/diagrams and photos on special photo & inkjet paper.

AirprintThis is Apple’s pre-loaded app that enables you to print to any Airprint compatible printers that are under the same Wifi network as the Apple device.

All Brother Wifi printers have Airprint compatibility. The joy with having Airpint is that it is the ease of use and the fact you only have to press two buttons to print your document.

USBWhen the printer is plugged into a computer via USB cable. This is most common in houses/businesses when there is only one computer.

NetworkThis is when the printer is plugged into an Ethernet via an Network cable and can then be picked up on the network by other users. This is most common in large businesses with multiple computers.

WirelessThis is when the printer can be networked on its own, without the need for any cables. This is most common in homes which have multiple wireless devices such as smart phones and tablets.
