LETTER FROM THE MANAGERSIt has been a wonderful summer for Eastlake Terrace! From Special Outings to our Annual Luau. The Special Events continue in September, as noted in your September Activity Calendar. We have our National Assisted Living week coming up September 11th through the 17th. Each day will have special Activities supporting our theme of “Keep Connected” as well as our “Spirit Week” planned by our Activities Director and our J.I.W. Team. It should make for a very fun and entertaining week! In the spirit for “Keeping Connected” Eastlake Terrace will be unveiling our Facebook Page on Friday September 16th. This will enable our Residents to keep connected with family and friends via Facebook. Please like our page and see what your loved ones have been up to! For safety, security and Resident Rights, this page will be monitored 24/7 by members of our Management Team.

On a more somber note. As we transition into September, our thoughts go to September 11th, 2001. Like so many, we remember where we were and what we were doing that day with vivid clarity. We want to say thank you to all our Veterans here at home and abroad. We thank you for your dedication and sacrifices you and your loved ones have made to honor our country, to ensure our safety and freedom.

We hope you join us September 14 from 11:30-1pm for a Grandparent’s Day Cookout! This is free to guests! Please make sure you RSVP by September 9.

Spirit Week: Please feel free to participate in our spirit week! Monday wear your hair crazy! Tuesday wear your favorite pair of crazy socks! Wednesday suit up in your Hawaiian gear! Thursday wear your favorite hat! Last but not least sport your favorite jersey on Friday! We hope you join the fun!

UPCOMING EVENTSFALL CRAFTS: B IRD FEEDER & LEAF COLLAGEFall is a great time of the year to make wonderful dec-orative crafts from simple items found in nature.

Pine Cone Bird Feeder

Supplies include: a pine cone, vegetable shortening, oatmeal bird seed, and some string.

Start by mixing together 1/2 cup of the shortening with 2 1/2 cups oatmeal and mix un-til well blended. (Optional: Add dried fruit, chopped nuts, or sunflower seeds.) Tie a string to the top of the pine cone and then apply the mixture all around the cone making sure you get it deep inside the openings. Roll in bird seed and pat to stick. Hang from a tree and watch the birds flock to it!

Leaf Rubbings Supplies include: a leaf or several leaves, paper, pencil, crayon, or chalk, scissors, glue or tape.

Once you find the perfect leaf, take a piece of paper and fold it in half placing the leaf in be-tween the fold with the veined side up. Use a colored pencil or a crayon to rub over the top of the leaf until it shows clearly on the paper. Cut out and paste or tape together a collage of your leaves to put on display!
