New Hire Samantha Hoover is new full time Finance Clerk in the administration of-fice. She was born and raised locally in Dauphin County with her family. Saman-tha previously worked for a local machine tool distributor as the Accounting Specialist where she learned most of her accounting background. She is look-ing forward to continuing her education and growth in the accounting field throughout her career with East Pennsboro Township.

Retirement Announcement It is with mixed feelings that we announce the retirement of another dedi-cated and appreciated Township employee, Ronald Peters. It is difficult if not impossible to sum up his achievements throughout his 23 years of service with East Pennsboro Township. Ronald will always be remembered as hardworking, committed and eager to help residents whenever needed. He is a true example of what to look for and follow. Please join us in congratulating him on this amazing milestone. We wish him the best of luck in the future.

Stormwater Corner There have been numerous stormwater happenings and updates throughout East Pennsboro Township over the past few months:

E Township staff has repaired or replaced over 30 stormwater inlets throughout the Township this year. This includes repair or replacement of tops, risers, walls, pipes and/or entire boxes.

E Construction is set to start in the beginning of September to replace a 60” stormwater pipe that crosses Edenderry Way. This is necessary since the pipe has become squashed over time, resulting in a sinking of the hillside, sidewalk and roadway. During construction, Edenderry Way will be closed in the immedi-ate vicinity of the work.

E During the extreme rainfall in early July, a sinkhole formed in Susquehanna Av-enue due to a collapsed stormwater pipe in the roadway. Township staff worked diligently to fix the broken pipe, restore the roadway and reopen the roadway to traffic a few days after the incident occurred.

E Township staff is working with a consultant on a stream restoration project on Enola Run. The limits of this project is approximately from Tower Road down to West Shady Lane. Residents in the vicinity of Enola Run may see contractors surveying in the next few months in preparation of design work for the stream restoration.

E East Treemont Basin, which was retrofitted in Fall 2019 with better soils and na-tive plants, has undergone several maintenance visits this spring and summer. The main purpose was to remove invasive and unwanted plants from the basin, so that the native plants can thrive.

E Recently, the Township received a free demonstration of a new product called NovaForm, which is a PVC liner designed for stormwater pipes. The benefit of the product is it does not require excavation of the roadway to repair/renew old pipes. The Township will consider the use of this product in certain areas.

Tree Lighting Ceremony The East Pennsboro Township Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place at the Township Building (98 S. Enola Drive) on

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 1ST AT 7PM.

Check the website and Facebook for more details to come.

Our goal is to continue to build funds to provide items for our EP parks for all to enjoy, like trees, park benches, pickle ball, bocce and all the great things you experience at Adams-Ricci and the other parks of the township. Each Car will enter the park on Magaro Rd. and proceed along a pre-de-termined route. At the end of the route, near East Penn Dr,. Santa & Mrs Claus will be there! It is a simple drive-through only. Since this is our first year for the event, we are hoping you can assist us to launch this endeavor in one of the following ways. 1) Purchase a wreath! (must be in advance) The wreaths will be on display at the Drive Through entrance, and both your name and your honoree’s name will be printed in the program. The purchaser will retain the artificial 20” wreath after the event. It is an artificial Green wreath with red bow. Top 10 Ways to Be a Good Septic Owner

Have your system inspected every three years by a qualified professional or according to your state/local health department’s recommendations

Have your septic tank pumped, when necessary, generally every three to five years

Avoid pouring harsh products (e.g., oils, grease, chemicals, paint, medications) down the drain

Discard non-degradable products in the trash (e.g., floss, disposable wipes, cat litter) instead of flushing them

Keep cars and heavy vehicles parked away from the drainfield and tank

Follow the system manufacturer’s directions when using septic tank cleaners and additives

Repair leaks and use water efficient fixtures to avoid overloading the system

Maintain plants and vegetation near the system to ensure roots do not block drains

Use soaps and detergents that are low-suds, biodegradable, and low- or phosphate-free

Prevent system freezing during cold weather by inspecting and insulating vulnerable system parts (e.g., the inspection pipe and soil treatment area)

BE A PART OF HISTORY !Help by donating to restore and preserve the ENOLA MILLER HOUSE

Born in 1884 in a mountain stone farmhouse, Enola Francis Miller’s first name was chosen by her father, Civil War veteran Wesley Miller, when he was given the naming rights for a flag station of the Northern Central Railroad. It later became the name of what was once the largest rail freight classification yard in the world and the whole town. Constructed nearly two centuries

ago at the corner of Valley Road and First Streets in Summerdale, the house where Enola was born -- the Enola Miller House -- was moved this Spring to its new home up the street at First and Miller Streets.

Efforts are now underway to raise the funds that are needed to restore, preserve and convert the Enola Miller House into a local museum highlight-ing the historical significance of the house, the town of Enola, and the great-er East Pennsboro Township community. A great way to contribute is with the purchase of an engraved brick or paver. The bricks and pavers will be utilized for walks and pathways on the grounds of the house and the new HSEP office. A GoFundMe page has also been set up for online donations which can be accessed at gofundme.com/enola-miller-house. No donation is too small. All donations are deeply appreciated! For more information about this project, and the history of East Pennsboro Township, follow the Historical Society of East Pennsboro on Facebook, or visit ephis-tory.org.
