East Enders Storyboard

In this shot of the opening credits the audience knows that the soap is set in London because we have a view of the river Thames. We also know the soap is set in the east end because of the title. The theme tune is drums and a slow tune this lets the audience know that the soap is not going to be happy and jolly.

In the scene we can see that the man is creeping out of the house quietly. The audience assume that this is a one night stand. As he gets to the door a lady comes down the stairs, we can see she is tying up her dressing gown; this makes the audience assume that this is the morning. She says ‘a goodbye would have been nice’ this shows the man is creeping out and didn’t want to be caught leaving.

We can see toys and children’s bags and clothes thrown everywhere this lets the audience know that a range of children live there and this lady is probably the mother. She is aged between 40 – 50. We know that she is probably working class because of the state of her house. The decorating is very old fashioned and because it is a mess we assume that because she is working she doesn’t have time to tidy it all up and when she does she is too tired from work.

In this scene we can see this lady is very done up. Her hair is done and she has lots of makeup and jewellery on. Because of her appearance we could assume that she is more well off than the lady before but because she is sat in a cafe where builders are, we assume this is just an act. We can see by her face that she is distressed.

We can see the builders checking her out which shows that her efforts work but her body language let us know she feels uncomfortable about it.

She is talking to this man. We can tell that he is a business man because he has a suit on and he is in an office sat on a leather chair. We can also tell that he might be a bit of a dodgy business man because his office is very small, dark, and messy and there are bits of paper everywhere. There are only two bits of unnatural light in the room. One from a desk lamp and one from above which looks like it is from a bare light bulb. The light creates shadows on his face; this makes the audience assume he is a bad guy.

There is a shot of him through one of the objects in the room this makes the audience feel like they’re watching him like the police might be watching him because of his dodgy business. He says ‘how’s my favourite prostitute’ this lets us know that the lady is putting on an act with all her makeup and hair. But we can tell by her expression this isn’t what she wants to be doing. ‘Today it’s you and Eddie, yeah? Or Jodie gets the message for real’ this suggests that she is being blackmailed buy this man. The man is quite young so it makes us wonder why this lady is being controlled by him.
