Staff news We are very sorry to announce that Mrs Jessica Bell has made the very difficult decision not to return to teaching following her maternity leave. With a very young baby Mrs Bell feels it is most important to spend time with him at the moment, so she is taking a break from teaching. We are very grateful for the enormous contributions to school improvement made by Mrs Bell during her time at East Cowton CE VC Primary School and wish her and the family all the very best for the future. We hope Mrs Bell and Henry will be able to come in later in the term to say ‘goodbye’. Governors are very pleased to welcome Mrs Marie Mann onto the teaching team next year to lead in KS2 and thank her for her hard work, commitment and expertise during this past year. Governor elections We are delighted to announce that appointments have been made for governors to the new federation. Mr Steve Cooke will be Foundation governor and Mr Graeme Thompson will be parent governor. Following a first meeting of the ‘core’ group, other governors will be co-opted to make the total 12 in place by September 2015. Reverend David Lewis will act as Chaplain. Re-decoration During the half term break, the outside of the school is being re-decorated. This will involve pre-treatment and re- moval of guttering etc. Please be aware that there will be contractors on site each day and potential hazards making the school grounds ‘out of bounds’. Thank you for your understanding in this matter. Have a wonderful break, and we look forward to seeing the children back on Monday 1 st June refreshed and ready to enjoy the final summer half term. Best wishes Dr Ruth Smith

Friday 22nd May 2015

“A place where the beliefs and practices of the Christian faith underpin the social, moral, spiritual, cultural and physical well

being of every individual!”

Dear Parents, Bath bombs!

Year 5 and 6 became keen scientists for the day on Monday, finding out about the pH

rainbow scale and making fabulous bath bomb mix to take home and create both foam-

ing bubbles and scent! We are grateful to Dr Jo from the Royal Society of Chemistry,

and we enjoyed spending time with the upper KS2 children from Kirkby Fleetham and

North and South Cowton Schools. There are more photographs on page 3.

Forest Schools

Compass Adventure provided us with two brilliant days of exploration, team building and

challenge this week. We didn’t get much sleep, but had the most fantastic time! Thank you

for all the generous donations of food which kept the hungry campers fuelled and to the

staff from both schools who stayed overnight, without whom the venture could not have

taken place. We also thank Miss Hanson our Secondary placement student for her D and T

help with the flag which proudly flew above the campsite.

Staff news

We are very sorry to announce that Mrs Jessica Bell has made the very difficult decision not to return to teaching

following her maternity leave. With a very young baby Mrs Bell feels it is most important to spend time with him at

the moment, so she is taking a break from teaching. We are very grateful for the enormous contributions to school

improvement made by Mrs Bell during her time at East Cowton CE VC Primary School and wish her and the family all

the very best for the future. We hope Mrs Bell and Henry will be able to come in later in the term to say ‘goodbye’.

Governors are very pleased to welcome Mrs Marie Mann onto the teaching team next year to lead in KS2 and thank

her for her hard work, commitment and expertise during this past year.

Governor elections

We are delighted to announce that appointments have been made for governors to the new federation. Mr Steve

Cooke will be Foundation governor and Mr Graeme Thompson will be parent governor. Following a first meeting of the

‘core’ group, other governors will be co-opted to make the total 12 in place by September 2015. Reverend David Lewis

will act as Chaplain.

Re-decoration

During the half term break, the outside of the school is being re-decorated. This will involve pre-treatment and re-

moval of guttering etc. Please be aware that there will be contractors on site each day and potential hazards making

the school grounds ‘out of bounds’. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

Have a wonderful break, and we look forward to seeing the children back on Monday 1st June refreshed and ready to

enjoy the final summer half term.

Best wishes

Dr Ruth Smith
