5. Justification (must cite accreditation and/or assessment by the graduate faculty) for new course or course revision or course renumbering:

The graduate faculty of the Counselor Education program met and determined that COAD 6992 must be revised to be aligned with current accreditation and state licensing standards and professional language. It has previously been used as an optional course for students, but will now be a required course for all students. CACREP requires that counselor education students complete 600 hours of professional experience with weekly group and individual supervision. In order to

remain able to recruit part-time and currently employed students, the faculty met and determined that splitting the required hours of service across two courses offered in consecutive semesters would allow both full-time and part-time students to successfully complete the service requirements dictated by CACREP accreditation. Making COAD 6992 a required course would allow for this plan to be implemented. These changes are also critical for the Counselor Education program to be in compliance with academic requirements for licensure by the NC Board of Licensed Professional Counselors. Consequently, without these changes, our students will not be able to be academically eligible for licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor in NC.

Additionally changes have been proposed to the course description to be consistent with contemporary professional language and expectations of the course.Additionally, changes to the program description are requested in order to broaden the scope of the course in order to bring it into alignment with CACREP accreditation standards and the NC LPC Board state licensure requirements. 1. Class participation ~ 5% ~ Objectives 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11a. Attendance is mandatory! Missed classes will require make-up

sessions. It is critical for this course that each student come prepared to give and receive helpful, critical feedback regarding counseling skills, processes and strategies. We will work together as a community to help each class member grow as professionals. Active participation requires preparing for each class by reading assigned material and considering the impact of ethical guidelines and mandates.

summarizes his/her attained level of training and experience in counseling during the Internship. The portfolio serves as a compilation of evidence documenting the work completed over the course of the internship experience. The requirements for the portfolio are noted in the Supervision Contract included in the Internship Manual. Additionally, a rubric is attached detailing the graded components of the portfolio.
