Himalayan Whitehouse Int'l College, Kathmandu
I am from Himalayan Whitehouse International College situated at New Baneshwor, Kathmandu.
Through the college Director, I got the golden chance to be the part of CDRA Nepal for a certain
period to be engaging in transitional shelter project in Mahadevsthan-3, Kavre.
When I first reached here I was unfamiliar to other volunteers and villagers, so I felt
uncomfortable to collaborate with them. But when I begin to speak with them, they became more
frank and shared their pain and sorrow with me that they had felt in earthquake.
It was surprising to see them happy even though they lost everything their home, relatives. From
this we can learn that Nepalese have much more power to handle their problem and battle
against sorrow. Now all the villagers are actively involved with us to build their own shelters. My
little effort makes great relief to them. So, from my inner heart I feel glad.

Group Division
Division of Work Out of 20 total volunteers from KU and Himalayan White House Int'l College four groups were divided with five voluteers in each group. Different groups were involved in different works according to the nature of work. Justin from US was there for continuous support, moral courage and supervision. He was very friendly to all volunteers as well as villagers. While we conducted work like measuring holes, measuring wooden posts, preparting post, leveling, framing and fixing GI Sheets, the villagers comforted us by managing meal and shelter for a week, which was provided by the CDRA office. Challenges Problems
All materials weren't available from first day, so we had hard time creating plans.
Wooden posts weren't vertical and straight. Some woods were too weak and some too strong to nail.
Lack of coordination from local people, as they went to work.
Execessive heat during day, so couldn’t work full day.
Problem nailing the bamboo frame as its slippery. Conclusion As estimated, work finished in time and everything went well. Some of the villagers were very excited and enthuastic to help. They were very thankful to us, the volunteers, as we were totally dedicated to help them during these hard condition and time. They were also thankful to Rotary /CDRA for providing such priceless help. Volunteers, partners in service, donors and supporters are welcome to join us.
