The conference will be held over three days, consisting of pre-conference workshops followed

by two full days of business presentations and evening networking events.

Three parallel sessions will run throughout both conference days with 48 speakers representing a

wide range of business sectors and panel discussions on the successful implementation of

commercial R cultures and infrastructures.

EARL2016 will feature a day of workshops preceding the full conference days. These will be interactive workshops on a variety of R related topics, from introductory to advanced levels. Due to the interactive nature of the workshops, all attendees will be required to bring their own laptop. Please see the full information provided for each workshop to ascertain the stated prerequisites for attendance.Workshops will be held in the Tower Hotel and places are limited.

Pre Conference WorkshopsMonday 13th September

• Workshop 1 – Advanced Shiny Workshop This full day workshop given by Garrett Grolemund will cover the latest developments and best practices for the Shiny R package 10.00 – 17.00

• Workshop 2 – A Crash Course in R A full day workshop introducing the basic syntax and structures of the R Languagein a fast-paced environment. 10.00 – 17.00

• Workshop 3 – Introduction to ggplot2 A half day workshop on the powerful and popular ggplot2 package. It will provide a hands-on introduction to ggplot2 with lots of example code and graphics. 10.00 – 13.00

• Workshop 4 – Using R with Microsoft ProductsThe primary aim of this workshop is to introduce how Microsoft Word and Excel reports can be created directly from R. 10.00 – 13.00

• Workshop 5 – Getting Started with ShinyIn this half day workshop we will introduce those new to Shiny to the key ideas that will help them to build simple web applications 14.00 – 17.00

• Workshop 6 - Package Development in RThe Package Development in R workshop is aimed at R programmers who are looking to add rigour to their development by building R packages in a controlled, scalable and commercially viable manner. 14.00 – 17.00

Kenneth Cukier is the Data Editor of The Economist. From 2007 to 2012 he was the Japan business and finance correspondent, and before that, the paper’s global technology correspondent based in London, where his work focused on innovation, intellectual property and Internet governance. Previously, he was the technology editor of The Asian Wall Street Journal in Hong Kong and a regular commentator on CNBC Asia. Earlier still, he was the European Editor of Red Herring and worked at The International Herald Tribune in Paris.

Keynote Presenters

Garrett Grolemund is RStudio's Master Instructor and the Editor-in-Chief of the Shiny Development Center at shiny.rstudio.com. He is also the author of R's popular lubridate package. A statistician by training, Garrett designs webinars, workshops, and other learning material to help statisticians use the open source R language. You may recognize Garrett from his video courses for Datacamp.com and O'Reilly media, for his books Hands-On Programming with R and R for Data Science, or for his series of popular R cheat sheets distributed by RStudio.

Joe Cheng is a software engineer who joined J.J. Allaire at RStudio in 2009 to help create the RStudio integrated development environment. He is best known for creating Shiny, the reactive web application framework for R; and RPubs, a well known document publishing service. Joe has spent most of his career working for Boston-area tech startups, plus a stint at Microsoft prior to joining RStudio..

Opening Session Presenters

David Smith is the R Community Lead at Microsoft. With a background in data science, he writes daily about applications of R and predictive analytics at the Revolutions blog (blog.revolutionanalytics.com), and is a co-author of “Introduction to R”, the R manual. Follow David on Twitter as @revodavid.

Lou Bajuk-Yorgan is the Chair of the R Consortium and leads Predictive Analytics product strategy at TIBCO Spotfire. Lou frequently speaks and tweets (@LouBajuk) about the value of Predictive Analytics for getting the most out of your data. He will be joined by Gabor Csardi who is being supported by The R Consortium in his R-Hub project, a new service for developing, testing and validating R packages.
