On a regular Halloween, it happened. All

the kids were dressed up and got lots ofcandies. In the house of the Alcantaras,Daniel heard an advertisement on TVthat said The best candy! Immediately,he ran and looked in his closet. Hmm,what to wear? Lets see a werewolf, avampire, a bunny outt? he scratched

his head. Anyway, Superman, Batman,Daredevilfound it! Mwahahahaha!And so Daniel put on his costume. Imsorry but Ill scare the bajeebers out of

them!He fetched his classmate Theo from his

house and they went trick-or-treating to-gether. They saw a funny-looking houseand laughed so hard, one of them felldown the stairs. Theo looked at Danieland then Theo ran away laughing.

Alone, Daniel went to this last house. He

forgot that this is the house where the

so-called best candy is given away.He pressed the doorbell and the dooropened. A guy came out and said,Here is the best candy. With a sur-prised look, Daniel said, broccoli?He went home with a sad look on hisface and his mom asked him, Didntyou see the advertisement? Danielgrinned. The best candy to keep youawake: Broccoli! Recently, the Boy Scouts movement had theirInvestiture in the Chapel of the Holy Guardian Angels(CHGA) followed by a Backyard/Fellowship in theold prep area. The long investiture was ceremonialyet superb. We saluted the Philippine, had ourneckerchiefs blessed, and listened to a speech froman Indian scoutmaster. It was followed by a tiring tent-setting and dinner (part 1).

Due to the horrible weather, our outdoor bonre,which should have been an open camp, became anindoor air-conditioned circle of boy scouts around abunch of candles. After this strange ceremony, we

learned other things like how tosing a hilarious song, tie knots,trail signals,and give rstaid. This wasfollowed by anen te r ta in ingskit; a song-a n d - d a n c en u m b e rperformed byus Ateneans,and some girlscouts from

packed with people. As I saw the students fromother schools, I felt a sense of doubt. I hoped that

I was ready.Soon, the contest began. We were given a few

hours to answer an exam. Based on this, the top24 schools would advance to the next round. Ibegan answering the questions. My thinkingwas clear, and I found most of the answers. AsI solved even the most difcult items, I began tofeel relaxed and comfortable. I could sense it. Iwas ready.

We qualied for the seminals. Westarted the round slowly. We were hanging

on loosely with a few questions remaining.With one question left, we needed tomake the Top 3. Miraculously we did.Only 6 teams remained for the nal round.Everything was uncertain at the start.But when the round began, I could onlywatch as Lorenzo answered question afterquestion. I sat back for the ride, and soon,it was all over. We won. The trophy, party,

Saint Marys andMiriam. After thisfun program,

everybody eitherhad dinner (part2) or socializedwith the boy andgirl scouts of both schools. The night ended witha sharing of chilling ghost stories and silence.

The next day, everyone attended the agceremony and had breakfast even though allstill felt sleepy. A dirty yet exciting obstaclecourse complete with mud followed right afterthis. There was climbing, squeezing, and rope

that took place.Then, we had arefreshing swimand lunch. Finally,the closingand awardingceremonies wereheld before we leftAteneo, tired but

joyful. This campwas a joyride from

start to nish!
