    1Knowing your USBBluetooth adapter

    System requirementsBefore using your ASUS USB Bluetooth adapter, ensure that your system meetsthe following requirements:

    Operating system : Microsoft Windows XP / Vista / 7

    System memory : 64MB or largerHard drive free space : 100MB

    If any of the items is damaged or missing, contact your retailer.

    Bluetooth overviewBluetooth is a short-range wireless technology that allows communicationamong Bluetooth-enabled devices such as PCs, mobile devices, headsets, andGPS receivers. Bluetooth devices only need to be within the speci ed range toexchange information and do not need any physical connection.

    With Bluetooth technology, you can: Connect your computer to the Internet using a Bluetooth-enabled mobile

    phone. Connect your computer to other Bluetooth devices that are within range. Synchronize data between your computer and Bluetooth-enabled mobile

    phone. Use a wireless mouse, keyboard, or game controller on your computer.

    2Installing the Bluetooth SuiteThe Bluetooth Suite is a Bluetooth management tool that helps you nd, pair, andcommunicate with other Bluetooth devices easily.

    Uninstall any previously installed Bluetooth software on your computer.

    ClickStart > Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > Uninstall aprogram to uninstall Bluetooth software.

    Insert the USB Bluetooth adapter before installing the Bluetooth Suite.

    To install the Bluetooth Suite on your computer:

    1. Insert the USB Bluetooth adapter into your computers USB port.2. Place the Support CD into the optical drive.3. Click Yes on the User Account Control screen.4. Select your language and click Install Bluetooth Utilities/Driver .

    5. Click OK.

    7. Click Next to install the Bluetooth Suite to the default folder or click Change tospecify another folder.

    6. The InstallShield Wizard for Bluetooth Suite launches. Click Next to continue.

    8. Click Install to start the installation.

    9. Click Finish to exit the installation wizard.

    10. Click Yes to restart your computer and activate the changes.

    Launching the Bluetooth SuiteThe Bluetooth Suite allows you to manage your Bluetooth devices using theBluetooth Devices folder , Bluetooth Settings dialog box , and Bluetoothmenu .

    Refer to Chapter 6: Managing Bluetooth devices for details on how to manage your Bluetoothdevices using this folder.

    The Bluetooth Devices folderThe Bluetooth Devices folder displays the Bluetooth devices that your computerhas paired with.

    To launch the Bluetooth Devices folder:

    ClickStart > All Programs > ASUS Bluetooth Suite > Bluetooth Devices .

    Right-click the Bluetooth icon in the noti cation area, then select ShowBluetooth Devices .

    The Bluetooth Settings dialog boxThe Bluetooth Settings dialog box allows you to manage your Bluetooth devicesand use various Bluetooth services.

    To launch the Bluetooth Settings dialog box:

    Right-click the Bluetooth icon in the noti cation area, then select OpenSettings .

    In the Control Panel search box, key in Bluetooth , and then click ChangeBluetooth Settings .

    Refer to Chapter 6: Managing Bluetooth devices for details on how to manage your Bluetoothdevices using this dialog box.

    The Bluetooth menuThe Bluetooth menu provides shortcuts to performing common Bluetoothoperations such as device pairing, le transfer, and Personal Area Network (PAN)connection.

    To use the Bluetooth menu:

    1. Right-click the Bluetooth icon in thenoti cation area.

    2. Select the operation that you want toperform.

    Refer to the succeeding sections on the descriptions for the items on the Bluetoothmenu.

    Add a DeviceThis item launches the Add a device wizard that guides you in pairing your

    computer with another Bluetooth device.

    You may also click Add a device from the Bluetooth Devices folder to launch the Add adevice wizard .

    Refer to Chapter 3: Pairing with a Bluetooth device for details on how to pair yourcomputer with another Bluetooth device using this wizard.

    Allow a Device to ConnectClick this item to allow a Bluetooth device to pair with your computer.

    This item is dimmed except when a Bluetooth device is trying to pair with your computer.

    Show Bluetooth DevicesThis item launches the Bluetooth Devices folder that displays the Bluetoothdevices that your computer has paired with.

    Send a File / Receive a FileThis item launches the Bluetooth File Transfer Wizard that guides you intransferring a le between your computer and another Bluetooth device such as amobile phone or another computer.

    You may also click Start > All Programs > Accessories > Bluetooth File TransferWizard to launch the Bluetooth File Transfer Wizard .

    Refer to Chapter 4: Sending and receiving les for details on how to transfer a lebetween your computer and another Bluetooth device using this wizard.

    Join a Personal Area NetworkThis item launches the Bluetooth Personal Area Network Devices folder thatdisplays the paired Bluetooth Personal Area Network (PAN) devices.

    Refer to Chapter 5: Joining a Bluetooth Personal Area Network (PAN) for details aboutBluetooth PAN.

    3Pairing with a Bluetooth device

    To pair your computer with a Bluetooth device:

    1. Insert the USB Bluetooth adapter into your computers USB port.

    2. Right-click the Bluetooth icon in the noti cation area, then click Add aDevice .

    Before transferring data between your computer and another Bluetooth device, pair yourcomputer with the Bluetooth device.

    Before pairing with a Bluetooth device, ensure that the Bluetooth device is turned on anddiscoverable. Refer to the documentation that came with the Bluetooth device forinstructions on how to make it discoverable.

    Pairing your computer with a BluetoothdeviceUse the Add a device wizard to pair your computer with another Bluetooth device.

    4. Use the pairing code to pair with your Bluetooth device.

    3. The Add a device wizard launches. Select the Bluetooth device that you want topair with, then click Next .

    To secure your data, pair with Bluetooth devices that you trust only.

    The above screen and the pairing method vary with different Bluetooth devices.Windows tries to choose the best pairing method for your Bluetooth device.

    In this setup case, Windows generates the pairing code for the Bluetooth device.

    5. The pairing relationship between your computer and the Bluetooth device isestablished and Windows is installing drivers for the Bluetooth device. ClickClose to exit the wizard.

    Wait for Windows to nish installing drivers for your Bluetooth device.

    To verify if Windows has installed drivers for your Bluetooth device successfully, go tothe Bluetooth Devices folder. Refer to Chapter 6: Managing Bluetooth devices fordetails.

    Sending a le to a Bluetooth device

    4Sending and receiving les

    Launching the Bluetooth File Transfer WizardUse the Bluetooth File Transfer Wizard to transfer les, one at a time, betweenyour computer and another Bluetooth device, such as a mobile phone or anothercomputer.

    To launch the Bluetooth File Transfer Wizard:

    Right-click the Bluetooth icon in the noti cation area, then select Send aFile or Receive a File .

    ClickStart > All Programs > Accessories > Bluetooth File Transfer Wizard .

    To send a le to a Bluetooth device:

    1. Right-click the Bluetooth icon in the noti cation area, then select Send aFile.

    Before transferring data between your computer and another Bluetooth device, pair yourcomputer with the Bluetooth device. Refer to Chapter 3: Pairing with a Bluetooth device fordetails on how to pair your computer with another Bluetooth device.

    The Bluetooth File Transfer Wizard uses the OBEX Bluetooth Object Push Pro le (OPP).

    2. The Bluetooth File Transfer Wizard launches. Select the Bluetooth device towhich you want to send the le, then click Next .

    In this setup case, the Bluetooth device has already been added to your computer. If theBluetooth device has not been added to your computer, check Use authentication to pairwith the Bluetooth device and ensure that you are sending the le to the correct device.

    3. Click Browse to select the le that you want to send, then click Next .

    Receiving a le from a Bluetooth device

    To receive a le from a Bluetooth device:

    1. Right-click the Bluetooth icon in the noti cation area, then select Receive aFile.

    Before transferring data between your computer and another Bluetooth device, pair yourcomputer with the Bluetooth device. Refer to Chapter 3: Pairing with a Bluetooth device fordetails on how to pair your computer with another Bluetooth device.

    2. Wait for the other Bluetooth device to initiate a le transfer.

    4. Click Browse to select a location where you want to save the le, then clickFinish to exit the wizard.

    To achieve the best signal quality when transferring data between two computers using twoUSB-BT211 USB Bluetooth adapters, we suggest that the Bluetooth adapters be placed in eitherPosition 1 or Position 2:

    22 Joining a Bluetooth Personal Area Network

    Connecting to a Bluetooth PANTo connect to a Bluetooth PAN:

    1. Right-click the Bluetooth icon in the noti cation area, then select Join aPersonal Area Network .

    2. The Bluetooth Personal Area Network Devices folder launches. Right-click theBluetooth PAN device that you want to connect to, select Connect using , thenselect a connection type.

    Only the paired devices that support PAN are listed in the Bluetooth Personal Area NetworkDevices folder.

    3. Wait until your computer connects to the Bluetooth PAN successfully.

    6Managing Bluetooth devices

    You can use the Bluetooth Devices folder and Bluetooth Settings dialog box tomanage your Bluetooth devices.

    Con guring the remote Bluetooth deviceTo con gure the remote Bluetooth device:

    1. Right-click the Bluetooth icon inthe noti cation area, then select ShowBluetooth Devices to launch theBluetooth Devices folder. This folderdisplays the Bluetooth devices that yourcomputer has paired with.

    2. Click Add a device to add a Bluetooth device to your computer.3. Right-click a Bluetooth device, then do any of the following:

    Use the Bluetooth services offered by the device. For example, right-clicka Bluetooth PAN device, then click Connect using > Direct connection tocreate an ad hoc network including the device and your computer.

    ClickCreate shortcut to create a shortcut for the device on the desktop. ClickTroubleshoot to troubleshoot the device. ClickRemove device to remove it from your computer. ClickProperties to view or change the settings for the device.

    The sign next to a Bluetooth device indicates that it is not installed properly and someBluetooth services offered by the device cannot be used.

    Right-click the Bluetooth device then select Troubleshoot to allow Windows to identifyand solve the problem.

    Con guring your computerTo con gure your computers Bluetooth settings:

    1. Right-click the Bluetooth icon inthe noti cation area, then select OpenSettings to launch the BluetoothSettings dialog box.

    2. In the Bluetooth Settings dialog box,click the Options tab.

    3. Do any of the following:

    Check Allow Bluetooth devices

    to nd this computer to makeyour computer discoverable toother Bluetooth devices.

    To protect your computer, check this item only when you want a Bluetooth device to ndyour computer.

    Check Allow Bluetooth devices to connect to this computer to allowother Bluetooth devices to connect to your computer.

    Check Alert me when a new Bluetooth device wants to connect toallow the Bluetooth Suite to prompt you when a new Bluetooth devicewants to connect to your computer.

    Check Show the Bluetoothicon in the noti cation area to display the Bluetooth icon

    in the noti cation area.

    ClickRestore Defaults torestore the default settings onthe Options page.

    3. Click OK to save the changes.

    To con gure your computers hardware settings:

    1. In the Bluetooth Settings dialogbox, click the Hardware tab.

    2. Select a device, then clickProperties to view detailedinformation about the deviceincluding the device status, driverinformation, and radio information.

    3. Click Change settings , then do any of the following:

    Create a new name for yourcomputer. Disable the device. Update or uninstall the device

    driver. Roll back to the previously

    installed driver if the device failsafter you update the driver.

    Change the power

    management settings.

    4. Click OK to save the changes.

    To con gure the local device services:

    1. In the Bluetooth Settings dialog box, click the Local Service tab. This pagedisplays the Bluetooth services that your computer supports.

    2. Do any of the following:

    Select a service, then enable or disable the service. Select a service, then click Properties to view or change the settings for

    the service.

    3. Click OK to save the changes.

    Connecting to a Bluetooth device usingvarious Bluetooth servicesConnect your computer to a remote Bluetooth device using various Bluetooth

    services such as FTP, BIP, BPP, and Sync services.

    To use the FTP service:

    1. In the Bluetooth Settings dialog box, click the File Transfer tab. This pagedisplays the paired Bluetooth devices that supports the FTP service.

    2. Right-click the Bluetooth device that you want to connect to, then selectRegister .

    3. Click OK to save the changes.

    Using the FTP serviceThe File Transfer Pro le (FTP) service enables you to browse the shared folder onan FTP-enabled Bluetooth device that is within range of your computer. You canalso transfer les and folders between your computer and the shared folder.

    You can only connect to one Bluetooth device via the FTP service at a time.

    To specify a shared folder for your computer, click the Local Service tab in the BluetoothSettings dialog box, select File Transfer , and click Properties .

    4. Double-click Computer on the Windows desktop. You can nd the connectedBluetooth device in the Other category.

    5. Double-click the Bluetooth device to browse its shared folder. You can alsotransfer les and folders between your computer and the shared folder.

    To use the BIP service:

    1. In the Bluetooth Settings dialogbox, click the Basic Imaging tab.This page displays the pairedBluetooth devices that supportsthe BIP service.

    2. Right-click the Bluetooth deviceto which you want to send theimage, then select Send Image .

    3. Select the image that youwant to send and clickOpen . The Bluetooth Suitestarts to send the image tothe remote Bluetooth device.

    Using the BIP service

    Use the Basic Imaging Pro le (BIP) service to transfer images between yourcomputer and another Bluetooth device.

    The images that other Bluetooth devices send to your computer via the BIP service aresaved in the BIP folder on your computer.

    To specify a BIP folder for your computer, click the Local Service tab in the BluetoothSettings dialog box, select Basic Imaging , and click Properties .

    Using the BPP service

    Use the Basic Printing Pro le (BPP) service to print simple les such as txt (.txt)and XHTML les through a remote Bluetooth device that is connected to a physicalprinter.

    To use the BPP service:

    To use the Sync service:

    1. In the Bluetooth Settings dialogbox, click the Sync tab. This pagedisplays the paired Bluetoothdevices that supports the Syncservice.

    2. Right-click the Bluetooth devicethat you want to synchronize withand select Sync . The BluetoothSuite starts to synchronize with

    the remote Bluetooth device.When the synchronization iscompleted, the status showsDisconnected .

    Using the Sync service

    Use the Sync service to synchronize vCards and vCalendars with a remoteBluetooth device.

    There are two roles involved in synchronization: client and server. The client is thedevice requesting or initiating the synchronization. The server is the device that theclient is synchronizing with.The client can synchronize contacts, appointments, messages, and notes with theserver.

    To con gure the settings for the Sync service, click the Local Service tab in the BluetoothSettings dialog box, select Sync , and click Properties .
