1 General

1.1 About this user manual This manual describes the firmware update procedure for Atos electronics drivers without transducer.

Before performing the firmware update procedure for the first time, read this manual.

This manual does not provide complete details for all possible working conditions; if any further information or technical support are required, please contact the Technical Sales Support of Atos Electronic Division ([email protected]).

In addition please follow up all the running regulations of the country/community where the drivers will be used.

A basic skill in using personal computers and Windows® operating system is required.

The firmware update procedure can be performed only under Atos spa authorization.

The firmware update procedure must be performed only by Atos authorized personnel.

1.2 Drivers list The firmware update procedure described in this manual is valid only for digital drivers without transducer listed below:

1.3 Items list Before to proceed with this firmware update procedure take care to collect the following items:

• Last version of Atos programming software E-SW-** • Firmware update file • QUICKSTART-** manual • E-A-PS-USB/DB9 Adapter (see technical table G500) • E-C-PS-DB9/M** Cross Cable (see technical table G500) • Power supply +24VDC

2 Atos firmware update procedure


2 Atos firmware update procedure Atos Firmware Downloader (AFD) program allows to update firmware of specific digital drivers (see 1.2).

‘Setting File’ of the driver is not changed during the upload firmware procedure. ‘Setting File’ will automatically back up by AFD program and it restored into the driver at the end of procedure.

Before performing the firmware update procedure, in order to avoid any risk to safety of personnel/machinery, remove the valve from the hydraulic system and perform the operation with the driver disabled inside a safe zone.

2.1 Serial interface connection 1. Close E-SW-** software Atos.

2. Switch off the driver.

3. Only for drivers in -BC / -BP execution disconnect fieldbus connection.

4. Connect the driver through the serial communication port to the PC.

5. Switch on the driver.

USB adapters and cables must be ordered separately. For further information please refer the technical table G500.



2.2 AFD.exe AFD program has been installed in the PC during the E-SW programming software installation.

1. Select “E-SW” folder (C:\Program Files\Atos spa\E-SW) on your PC and open “AFD.exe”.

“C:\Program Files\Atos spa\E-SW” for PC to 32 bit operating system. “C:\Program Files (x86)\Atos spa\E-SW” for PC to 64 bit operating system.

2.3 Select Connection Type 1. Select communication type of the driver connected.

e.g. : for drivers E-RI-AES-PS select “Serial (-PS)” e.g. : for drivers E-RI-AES-BC select “CANopen (-BC)” e.g. : for drivers E-RI-AES-BP select “Profibus (-BP)”



2. Select the communication speed: “57600 bit/sec” is recommended.

If specific environment condition may not allow the selected communication speed, try with lower speed.

3. Select the correct PC port COM.



4. Press “Connect” button.

5. AFD program starts the search of the driver connected.

If pressing “Connect” button (step 4) appears the below message, please check: wiring connection (see 2.1) and “Type”, “Speed”, “PC Port” selection (see 2.3). If the issue is not solved, please contact Atos Technical Office.



2.4 Select the Firmware File The picture below showing the characteristic of connected driver: Driver Code, Serial Number, Hardware Code and Actual Firmware.

1. Atos provides the new firmware file (zipped folder). Unzip on the preferred PC directory (e.g. “Firmware Update”).

2. Press the button (see red arrow) and select the firmware folder (e.g. “Firmware Update”).

AFD program shows automatically get valid firmware file from selected folder.



3. The message “Compatible firmware file found! Click OK button to start the firmware updating procedure” confirms that firmware file selected is compatible with driver connected.

The yellow indicator shows the new compatible firmware.

4. Press “OK” button to start the procedure (see step 2.5).



5. The picture below showing if the firmware is not present in selected folder or is not compatible for the connected drivers, please select a valid folder.

6. The picture below showing if the selected directory contain different firmware releases, please delete or move the undesired release.

If other compatible firmware file selections are not valid, please contact Atos Technical Office.



2.5 Reading Preset and User Parameters 1. AFD program reads preset and user parameters.

2.6 Wait for driver off 1. Switch off the driver.



2.7 Download firmware 1. Switch on the driver.

2. AFD program starts the firmware download.



2.8 Download Preset and User Parameters 1. AFD program starts preset and user parameters download.

2.9 End of procedure 1. Switch off the driver.

2. Press the “OK” button.

3. Close the ADF program.

4. The driver is updated with the new firmware version.
