RELAUNCH OF PAGER.

# back bench minds.

SO, WHAT IS PAGER?

It displays NUMERIC & TEXT messages.

Basically of 2 types.

Solves the purpose of COMMUNICATION.

Milestone in the industry.

TWO WAY PAGER.ONE WAY PAGER. (ONLY RECEIVES MESSAGES)(RECEIVES & REVERTS)

HOW IT LOOKED ?

AND THE HISTORY.. First practical paging system launched in 1950.

In 1962 the Bell Systemthe U.S. telephone monopoly colloquially known as "Ma Bell"presented its Bellboy radio paging system at the Seattle World's Fair.

By the end of 1960s the TWO WAY pagers were launched. (Using the Walkie-Talkie technique.)

The technology modified & advanced till the early 1990s.

By the mid 1990s the era of pager faced its climax with the invent of CELLULAR PHONES. (with cheaper technologies to flourish.)

TECHNOLOGICAL ENHANCEMENT The first successful consumer pager was Motorola's PAGEBOY first introduced in 1974. It had no display and could not store messages ,however ,it was portable & notified the wearer that a message had been sent.

The paging device started with NO DISPLAY/ NO DIGITAL pattern. It could not type nor receive any message . It worked just like a FAX technology. It then started coming up with display & one way messaging technique. Then followed the invention of two way messaging system , which added a boom in the sales of the device.

Pager was then modified into various shapes and colors with few more sound options.Source : html/1524www.gadgetsfreak.net/bookmark./pager2255///lsojf/

DAWN & DUSK OF PAGER in INDIA Pager communication successfully launched in India in the year 1995.

Motorola was a major player with nearly 80 per cent of the market share.

The other companies included Mobilink, Pagelink, BPL, Usha Martin telecom and Easy call.

The business peaked in 1998 with the subscriber base reaching nearly 2 million.

By 2000 , the demand faced a serious downfall cause of rising demand for MOBILE PHONES.

By 2002, Motorola (& others) stopped making or servicing pagers. SOURCE :http://telecomtalk.info/history-of-indian-telecommunication/67789/

OOMPH FACTOR PAGER Costs Less (starting from 4500 INR).

Better BATTERY life.

Better penetration in the STRUCTURE.

It had FEWER MISSED MESSAGE.

Was SMALLER & LIGHTER in weight.

More convenient to utilize.

SIMULCASTING was a superior technology.

STATUS SYMBOL.

WHAT WENT WRONG?The manufacturers COULD NOT predict the capabilities of the advanced technologies.

The invention of pager was followed by VERY LESS and ineffective technological enhancement.

The delivery of messages WAS NOT prompt compared to MOBILE PHONES.

With the PRICE FALLING DRASTICALLY, PAGER reached in the hands of the general mass, disallowing it to be a STATUS SYMBOL any further.

Companies faced heavy LOSS forcing them to shut down the production.
