Just a couple of reminders: When the range is “COLD”, there is NO HANDLING OF ANY FIREARMS OR EQUIPMENT OF ANY KIND (this includes unloading of vehicles). The only exception is target frames being brought down range for setting. The range closure is at LOCAL SUNSET, NOT PRINTED SUNSET. When the sun drops below the local horizon, all shooting activity on the range should cease. MEMBERSHIP CARDS There have been several incidents of members entering the range by following another vehicle through the gate. The reason is they haven’t gotten their new photo proximity cards. It is the responsibility of each member to make arrangements with the association clerk to have their new cards issued. Members must have the new card in their possession at all times when on EF&GA property. I will be discussing this situation with the Board of Directors and the Chief RSO for possible remedies. BBQ News The annual BBQ will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2015. There will be a work party on Saturday, May 16th. The bad news is that due to the rising costs of food, (if you do your own shopping, you know what I’m saying), the price of the dinner tickets for the BBQ will have to be raised. Early bird sales (Was $15.00) will now be $20.00, up to April 30th. Regular price, (Was $20.00) will now go to $25.00, and will be sold from May 1st , up to and including the day of the BBQ Kudos Every now and then we have some free thinkers who come up with some pretty good ideas, so, thank you to Al Anzelone for the new Cracker Fun Shoot, Norm Porst for his NIDPA shoot and Brian Lamb for Tactical Rifle. ***Safety Tip- Hey, Hunters and other travelers. Be sure to check the gun laws in all of the states (and countries) you may be traveling through. In some cases even the different counties in the same state have different rules. Pleading ignorance to the law usually costs more money in fines. Neil PLAY SAFE, STAY SAFE

First things first On April 25th I have scheduled a First Aid class for RSOs The class will be made available to the general mem-

bership on a space available basis Anyone interested send me an email to that effect and I will start a list

Some of you may have noticed that I was a bit too free with the term ldquoweaponrdquo in the last Sound Off In fact the Association has a policy to avoid the term in favor of ldquofirearmrdquo especially when used around the youngsters One member actually sent me a rather long email pointing out the mistake

in my article Unfortunately I had to agree with most of his diatribe At the very end he mentioned that I might think he was a bit of a smart-ass It turns out that he was right about that also My DI did not do much to improve my writing skills and he wasnrsquot too concerned about the use of the term ldquoweaponrdquo When you are on the firing line it is mandatory that you keep the muzzle of your firearm pointed down range This point was brought home a week or two ago when a member who was firing an AR-15 style rifle experienced a failure to feed He removed the magazine locked open the bolt and placed the rifle muzzle down on the shooting bench and tried to examine the chamber Seeing nothing he closed the bolt and pulled the trigger As you might guess there was a live round in the chamber that fired hellipthrough the table and into the concrete below Fortunately no one was injured but once again the old adage comes true ldquoalways treat a firearm as though it is loadedrdquo To do otherwise means that you only have to be wrong once and the result could spell disaster The Assoc frowns upon cleaning your firearm at the range for generally the rea-sons mentioned above We do not have a safe cleaning area where your firearm can be handled behind the firing line I am aware that when breaking in a new rifle for example that many shooters wish to clean after every shot If it can be accomplished by keeping the muzzle down range and all other safety precautions observed the procedure may be done Last month President Neil Pisk mentioned that it might be a good idea to only have one type of ammo and firearm on the line at the same time It is an excel-lent idea and one that I strongly recommend Using the correct caliber cartridge for your firearm is always a ldquogood ideardquo and too many calibers on the bench can easily lead to a loading mistake The closer the calibers are the easier it is to make that mistake Never sacrifice safety for convenience
