Woodstock ChristianSchool is a prayerful ,thriving, energetic schoolcommunity where aChrist-centred educationequips our students to livea life of Christian service.(WCS vision statement). Our school community isan exciting place to be!Students and teachers formthe obvious sector of this

community, but WCS is blessed through another group of people, who bring vitality and joy to the school. Their passion for theschool also brings to life the vision statement quoted above.VOLUNTEERS at WCS are invaluable and never taken forgranted!

Teachers work more effectively with the help of the classroomvolunteers. Helping with the marking, coming into class to assistwith individual students or guiding small groups as they work onprojects, math drills, reading practice, writing, music/bandexercises, they lovingly partner with teachers in leading childrenthrough Christ-centred learning. Volunteers provide musicalaccompaniment for choirs, help in the computer lab, sign out booksin the library, lead an elective group, or offer a helping hand withspecial service opportunities. Teachers love their room parentswho assist in finding drivers for class trips, who plan teacher'sbirthday parties, who send encouraging emails/notes, who bring ina special treat or drink, or come in to be that extra pair of hands onspecial event days and SO much more. Volunteer coaches andreferees from the school community offer their expertise andskillfully, patiently work with teams as they practice and play theirgames.

The Board of Directors of the John Knox Christian SchoolSociety, which operates Woodstock Christian School, arevolunteers who spend hours discussing direction and vision for WCS, who work with committees to lead in human resources, property and building maintenance, program, fundraising,

community relations, transportation. Committee members comealongside with their know-how to do the work that is needed tomake the school run well. Their leadership, vision,direction-setting knowledge and common sense are so appreciatedas they seek God's guidance to lead the school!

Special events' volunteers come in and work hard and long onspecific projects - what fun and energy they exhibit! The familywelcome dessert evening, the golf tournament, the Santa Clausparade float, the Christmas seniors' tea, the bazaar, ChristianEducation week - all these events demand dedication, planning, creativity and lots of work. Watching the team of people organizeand run the Winter Fest Auction from my office was a delight! Forweeks volunteers picked up and delivered donations. They wereexcited! Then the organizing team moved in for several days, entering current data into the computer, decorating and setting upthe gym, numbering the auction items, making decisions as to what was going into the silent and live auctions, packaging andarranging all the items in an attractive fashion on the tables. Thenthe auction began! The food/hospitality crew were busy in thekitchen while the auctioneers and the 'spotters' entertained andpersuaded the audience to part with their money for the cause ofthe school while taking home great purchases. Volunteers at thetables in the halls were tallying purchases and collecting themoney. Everyone felt like they were part of the community andcheered when the numbers reached $40,000 with an anonymousdonor matching the last $10,000 dollar for dollar for a grand totalof $50,000! WCS is a thriving, energetic school indeed!

Several times a week, volunteers come to administer the giftcard voucher program. Many people in our community participatein this program, coming to the school regularly to purchase theirgrocery and gift cards. There are also the volunteers that help outwith in-school events such as the Book Fair, the MS Read-a-thonand the annual pancake breakfast. Our volunteers model for uswhat it means to live a life of service to the community.

A new endeavour that has begun to keep tuition at anaffordable rate is the Once Again Upscale Resale store. Many, many volunteers sort clothes and other items, stock shelves, clean, repair furniture and appliances, and wait on customers. This workblesses not only the families in the school, but also the volunteersat the store and the customers in the community who come to buyand visit.

We profess to be a prayerful community. Many, many timesI am told that you as community are praying…for the teachers, forthe board, for students with specific needs, for bus drivers, forsafety as students travel on class trips, for me in my work. Thereis nothing more precious, more meaningful for me than to sit withyou and pray. God guides us, he fills us with his spirit, it is throughprayer that we come so close to him. The prayer ministry is crucialto the school - I thank God for all who pray, holding the school andall it encompasses before our loving Lord.

The volunteers at WCS live out their gifts of service forstudents, teachers, parents, community. Thank you to all whovolunteer at WCS ...you truly are a gift, a blessing!

Mrs. Schmor

It is Advent and our hearts are longing…! longing for peace in places of strife and hurt, ! longing for restoration of brokenness in relationships, of brokenness in spirit, ! longing for of healing in a world full of pain, sickness, destruction, ! longing for everything to be made new again. Our HOPE as we wait in expectation is found in God's promise to come and live with us.Our PEACE is found in the coming of Christ-child who brings wholeness. Our LOVE is fulfilled in God's love for his world. Our JOY is made complete at Christmas- Jesus is born… God is with us!Hallelujah! What a gift – the greatest gift indeed is our Saviour! My prayer is that God will fill us with hope, peace, love and joy this Christmas season as we wait in expectation and acceptthe greatest gift of all, our Saviour! Have a Blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year, 2014– Rooted in the Love of Christ!

JUNIOR KINDERGARTEN – MS. STEPHANIE LINKER &GRADE 5/6 – MR. GREG HIEMSTRA

Grade 5/6 and Junior Kindergarten students long for Fridays. Every Friday the twoclasses gather to work on an activity together. We are “buddy” classes. We often read,or paint together such as John McCrae's poem "In Flanders Fields". Most recently wehave written an acrostic about Christmas that shows what Christmas is really aboutalong with some group artwork. Our two classes wish you a blessed Christmas as youcelebrate the real meaning of Christmas.

Our grades 3, SK & 8 classes challenged us to donate coatsto the Coats for Kids program. We delivered 70 coats, 8snowpants, along with gloves, scarves, boots & hats to

Operation Sharing for distribution. We were blessed with the opportunity to warm the hearts,

heads, bodies, and hands of those in need.

The grade 4 class traveled to Stratford and performed “Romeo &Juliet” on the stage at the Studio Theatre. Students toured the

backstage, warmed up with Festival actors and performed to anaudience of parents, teachers and many high school groups.

What an experience!
