Mains plugThis apparatus is fitted with an approved 13 Amp plug.Tochange a fuse in this type of plug proceed as follows:

1 Remove fuse cover and fuse.2 Fix new fuse which should be a BS1362 5 Amp,

A.S.T.A. or BSI approved type.3 Refit the fuse cover.

If the fitted plug is not suitable for your socket outlets, it shouldbe cut off and an appropriate plug fitted in its place. If the mains plug contains a fuse, this should have a value of 5Amp. If a plug without a fuse is used, the fuse at thedistribution board should not be greater than 5 Amp.

Note:The severed plug must be disposed of to avoid a possibleshock hazard should it be inserted into a 13 Amp socketelsewhere.

How to connect a plugThe wires in the mains lead are coloured with the followingcode: blue = neutral (N), brown = live (L).

As these colours may not correspond with the colourmarkings identifying the terminals in your plug, proceed asfollows:• Connect the blue wire to the terminal marked N or

coloured black.• Connect the brown wire to the terminal marked L

or coloured red.• Do not connect either wire to the earth terminal in

the plug, marked E (or e) or coloured green (or green and yellow).

Before replacing the plug cover, make certain that the cord gripis clamped over the sheath of the lead - not simply over thetwo wires.

Reality reproduced: Super AudioCDThe future in digital sound reproduction is nolonger limited to a close simulation of reality. Thenew audio standard IS reality! The human ear isno longer capable of distinguishing audible realityfrom digital reproduction. At Philips the futurestarts today with the Super Audio Compact Discplayer. This Super Audio CD player combinessuperior sound quality with the possibility ofplaying almost all existing audio and videoformats with a single player.

The Super Audio standard is based on DirectStream Digital (DSD) technology. This newdirect-stream digital format comprises a 1-bitsystem that has a digital sampling frequency thatis 64 times higher than that of conventionalaudio CD. The results are spectacular : afrequency response of over 50k Hz and a 120dBdynamic range over the entire audible spectrum.Mixed with as many of the original frequencies aspossible, the audio information audible forhuman ears sounds much more natural.

The next standard: hybrid discThe Super Audio CD is the evolution of the CDthat provides ultra-high-quality sound. Additionalfeatures, including multi-channel, can be offered. On the high density (HD) Super Audio CD youmay have access to separate areas, containingtwo-channel stereo and multi-channel.

But that is not all! The hybrid version of theSACD guarantees backward compatibility withthe installed base of CD and DVD players. Inaddition to the HD layer, the hybrid disc containsa standard density CD layer with conventionaltwo-channel stereo CD audio information. Thetwo layers are read from the same side of thedisc. The HD layer is read by and DVD laser. Thebottom reflective layer with conventional CDsound is read by the CD laser through thesecond, semi-transmissive HD layer.

SACD: reality in sound...andvisionThis SACD player will not only surprise you withits superior reproduction of almost all existingaudio formats. Connected to your TV, yourSACD player presents VCD and DVD-videoinformation as perfect digital studio-qualityimages with truly 3-dimensional digital multi-channel audio.

Super Audio CDYou will recognize Super Audio CDs by the logo. There are three types of Super Audio CDs:single-layer, dual-layer and hybrid discs. Each typemay contain two areas of recorded information:a High Quality Stereo area and a High QualityMulti-channel area.– The single layer disc may contain bothinformation areas.– The dual layer disc may contain bothinformation areas but a double amount ofinformation can be stored on the disc thanks tothe second layer.– The hybrid disc may contain not only bothinformation areas but also a second, standardCD layer, making it playable on standard CDplayers.Recorded information may vary per area. This isindicated in the disc inlay. Areas can be selectedseparately before or during playback, whileplaying Super Audio CDs via the remote controlor via the On-Screen Display on your TV.

Make one of the following connections, depending on the capabilities of your existingequipment.

The following guidelines are options for the bestpicture and sound quality available on yourDVD/SACD player.
