Design for Reincarnation
The core values of Dutch aWEARness • We believe that working in the circular economy…
• Is 20% is about the products, 80% about the process
• Means that all products are suitable for (re)use
• Includes fair trade and partnerships
• Is learning by doing
• Is being responsible for our planet, people and the materials we use
Why do we work in the circular economy? • Shortage of raw materials
• Waste generation
• A growing world population
• Ecological disasters
Design for Reincarnation
What are the four steps?
According to Dutch aWEARness
What is the first design step? • Organizing your chain
• Which roles do the chain partners play?
• What is their performance?
• What is their knowledge?
• Are they willing to share their knowledge?
• Are they transparent?
• And are they willing to cooperate?
• What is the performance the client needs?

What is the second design step?
Creating your raw material, according to the performance needed:
Performance:
• Work wear: water resistant, safety, good fit, quality
• 100% recyclability: easy to disassemble, suitable for the return
system/chain
• Reasonable pricing
Design:
• A new raw material that meets the performance requirements on
different levels: fibre, fabric, and garment
What is the third design step?
Making the tools that close the chain: Track + Trace Management System
(CCMS)
What is the fourth design step?
The business models:
• Performance based contracting
• From owner to user
The business case:
• New management systems within the circular economy
• Profit (reduction of 30% in lost costs thanks to a transparent way of
working)
• Reuse of raw materials (no need for new materials)
