These are the owners of the flotsam in yesterday’s activity. Did you infer who they belonged to

Today, we’re going to start looking at Flotsam. Look through the pictures in the book and read the

questions about them. Think carefully about each question and answer it in your lined exercise book.

To challenge yourself today, use conjunctions to explain your answers.


Here is an example:

This is the front cover.

What can you see inside the fish’s eye? What do you predict will happen in this book?

I can see something which looks like a box

floating in the fish’s eye.

I predict that the box will wash up on a

beach because the book is called Flotsam

and flotsam is normally used to describe

items which wash up on beaches. There

are also fish on the front cover which

makes me think it might be set in the sea

or on a beach.


Where is the boy? Look at what he’s doing. How would you describe him?


Some flotsam has washed up on the beach. What do you think it is?


It’s an old camera!

How long do you think it’s been in the sea? What photos might be on the camera

film?


The boy has had the camera film developed so he can see the photos.
