Product Briefing Sheet Dura-Seal™ Series Pumps The Perfect Balance

February 1, 2013

OVERVIEW Bowie pumps are considered the industry-standard rotary gear pumps based on their proven pumping performance, exceptionally long life, ease of repair/serviceability and excellent value. As operating conditions continue to become more and more challenging, the demand continues to rise for continued improvements in:

1. Pump life – longer life for a better return on investment 2. Flow volume – pumping more product in less time 3. Ease of maintenance and repairs – less downtime to maximize profitability 4. Environmental and personnel safety – more drip and leak resistance to minimize liabilities 5. Total cost of ownership – medium price point and overall great value

Bowie’s engineering innovations, more precise manufacturing techniques and the use of world-class materials and components has led to improvements in all of these areas and to the introduction of the Dura-Seal™ Series of pumps. This is the Bowie pump that you have been waiting for! The Dura-Seal™ Series of pumps are the most advanced combo-style seal and bearing design pumps intended primarily for use in the oil and gas along with the liquid cargo transfer industries. DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS

Rotary gear pumps are generally designed and manufactured in four basic design styles:

1. Packing-sealed bushing design pumps. These pumps utilize packing as the primary source of shaft sealing and simple bushings acting as the bearing surface on the shafts. These are typically general purpose pumps for transferring, mixing, blending and recirculating fluids which are not corrosive, flammable or toxic due to the limited sealing capabilities of the packing.

2. Lip-sealed bushing design pumps. These pumps substitute the packing seal with a number of high performance lip seals to provide the most leak-resistant bushing design pumps available. This feature/benefit broadens the use of bushing design pumps to include more corrosive and toxic liquids and it also increases pump life.

3. Combo-style seal and bearing design. These pumps are sealed using any combination of lip seals, mechanical seals and packing along with a combination of both bearings and bushings. These features broaden the pump applications, while improving pump life in more challenging work environments, and are available at a moderate-price point.

4. Multi-sealed all-bearing-design. These pumps are sealed using elastomeric lip seals and/or

mechanical seals along with high performance bearings. They contain NO packing seals and NO bushings. They are the ultimate choice for the longest lasting, and the most leak resistant rotary gear pumps available.

Advanced Sealing

Technologies

Five (5) specially formulated high-performance elastomeric double- lip seals and five (5) Viton™ single lip seals distributed in strategic locations, on both the drive and idler shafts.

Multiple lip seals designed to offer the best combination of pump life and leak resistance for various conditions related to higher pressure, higher temperature, increased rotation speed and chemical/acid fluid materials. Durability, reliability.

No use of less expensive and less heat-resistant nitrile lip seals found on the competitor’s pumps.

Longer life in higher temperature operating conditions.

The only combo-style seal and bearing design pump which does not use a packing seal in combination with lip seals.

Less mess and reduced maintenance. Enhanced environmental and operator safety.

Bearing Technologies

Five (5) high load-carrying ball bearings, distributed in a balanced configuration, on both the drive and idler shafts on the 3 inch pump.

Reduced rotational friction and superior balanced support reduces the wear on the housing, shafts and gears leading to the longest pump life. Reduces the frequency and costs of pump repairs.

GEAR MATERIALS PROGRESSIVE HELICAL STEEL All helical steel gears are not created equally. The design and functionality of the Bowie Progressive Helical Steel gears are one generation ahead of the competitors’ standard helical steel gears. The unique capabilities of our five-axis machining centers allows us to modify the twist angle of the helix and the profile of the teeth resulting in less friction , less wear and longer pump life. In addition, these modifications help produce the higher flow volumes. BUNA-N (SYNTHETIC NITRILE RUBBER) And, all rubber gears are not created equally. Competitors’ rubber gears have a history of performing poorly as a result of their poor bonding of rubber to the gear’s steel core. The result: component separation and peeling and excessive warranty claims. Bowie’s unique proprietary bonding process results in a high strength and durable bond resulting in longer gear life and minimal downtime and repair costs. MAJOR COMPONENT OPTIONS BI-DIRECTIONAL PRESSURE RELIEF PLATE A bi-directional pressure relief plate is recommended whenever you want to ensure that high pressure fluid flow will not damage pressure sensitive equipment on either side of the Bowie pump. This includes piping, tubing and machinery. Of course, personnel safety is also a key reason to install this equipment. Maximum pressures settings can be configured for both the intake and discharge of pumped product. The pressure relief plate is compact and easy to maintain and is compatible with all sizes of Ultra-Seal™ pumps. HYDRAULIC MOTOR DRIVE KIT The hydraulic motor drive kit allows you to directly mount a hydraulic motor to your Bowie pump. This equipment ensures easy alignment when installing the pumps and also provides a safety guard over the connection. It is easy to install and maintain and it is built to last.
