Mission Statement
The Dunn County Humane Society (DCHS) is dedicated to improving the lives of companion animals in our community and finding permanent and loving adoptive homes for the animals in our care. DCHS promotes the humane treatment of animals and operates as a no-kill facility, a philosophy that has been
with the organization from the beginning. We do not forfeit the life of one animal to make space for another. All incoming animals are evaluated, medically treated and rehabilitated when possible. DCHS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that relies on the good will and generosity of individuals and corporations.

There are countless stories
about dogs and cats that
come to us and
immediately capture our
hearts. Gabriel is one such
story of many this year. His
story was highlighted by
the news media not only in
the Chippewa Valley, but it
was also nationally carried
by many print and online
media outlets. His condition
was shocking, but it was
apparent from the moment he came to us that he had a sweet disposition
and strong will to live. Only weighing an unbelievable 23.5 lbs when he
came in on November 1st, we estimated he should weigh 60 lbs were he healthy. Fast forward to
December 15th (a few days before he went into foster care) and he weighed 58.6 lbs.! In his time with us,
he continued to secure an unforgettable place in our hearts and the hearts of all those that followed his
story. We posted countless pics and videos showcasing his amazing spirit and love for us all. We are
pleased to now share that his journey continues in a loving home he should
have always had. The Chan family fostered him starting December 18th and
on January 7th, they officially became foster failures! Gabriel’s new parents
Henry and Amanda Chan created a Facebook page to continue sharing the
story of his journey and if you
don’t follow it, we encourage you
to as it shows just how special
Gabriel is. We want to thank
everyone that offered
encouragement, support,
donations, and love for Gabriel in
his time with us. We had
donations, letters, and cards from
all over the country.
Thank you for being a member and giving your continued support. We can’t do this without you!

Membership Program
Several months ago, we formed a committee to take a critical look at our membership program. Our organization has been membership-based since its charter in the mid-90s and members like you are why we are a ‘society’ and not just an animal shelter. Being a member helps show your continued support for what we are doing for homeless animals in our community. Members have voting rights and the ability to be elected to our board of directors, but also give us a collective, unified voice in our cause.
The ultimate goal of our committee is to retain current members and gain new members. Our committee worked hard to determine we needed some more benefits to do just that. As we start this new year, we are launching a new membership benefit program. This program
will take some time to be fully realized, but starts with several changes that we hope you will enjoy.
First, we are making our dog washes and nail trim services exclusive to members. We are also going away from the punch cards for these services in favor of 3 shareable coupons that you receive when you renew. You will receive a shareable engraved pet tag coupon as well. Any of these can be used by you or given to friends and family in the hopes they will see what we do and consider joining.
Other new items include a personalized membership card that will give you benefits at events we hold. We are also working with local businesses to provide some benefits for member cardholders as well. More on this as it develops. Finally, we are offering half-price microchips* and $5 engraved pet tags to members throughout the year, as well as 10% off any Pet Stop merchandise at the shelter.
We hope you will enjoy these benefits and bear with us as we roll-out these new initiatives. Our plan is to provide these new materials as members renew, but can provide them earlier if you request it. Just email me at [email protected] or give me a call at 715-232-9790. And as always, thanks for being a member!
*these are microchips done at the shelter – half price is $15 plus tax.
