DUKE OF CONNAUGHT
SAC
Greetings from you School Advisory Council Executive!
It is certainly going to be a busy spring!
Thanks to our planning committee who worked many hours to plan what was an amazing
evening at our annual adult social – Duke After Dark, on Saturday, March 30. See the pic
below!
We also want to thank everyone who attended our evening of on-line safety and Mental
Wellness workshops. The turnout was gratifying and the information for parents and their
children invaluable. There is a tip sheet for parents from Amanda lee of Telus, who facilitated
the internet safety parent evening.
Planning is currently underway for our Creator Fair, which is happening on Thursday June 6.
If you would like to help plan or to volunteer on the day of the Fair, please send an email to
[email protected]. It is sure to be a fun event for the whole family!
Our next Movie night is this Thursday, April 18, starting at 5:30pm. More details can be found
in NTR.
In May, SAC is also hosting an evening viewing of the documentary Screenagers

Music Corner Thanks to all students, staff and parents for three evenings of magic, watching The Meat Up come to life. We took
a musical, 75 minute trip to Veganville -- a small town that has been overtaken by a big problem . . . and the greatest
detective in the territory who was called in to solve this MYSTERY. Our Detective and her bumbling assistant worked
with the townspeople and the law to bring order back to this sleepy little town in the 1930s. As our detective gets closer
to solving his biggest case she had to make a difficult decision . . .
This original student-written Musical comedy combined the themes of greed, helping fellow citizens and overcoming
a personal dilemma set against a backdrop of popular musical parodies from the past and pop songs of today. The
show was entertaining, exciting and heartfelt from start to finish and spoke to a broad array of audiences – young and
old alike!
After a few months of Drumming and Singing in Mr. Caruso’s classes the Cuban/Brazilian instruments will be shipped
off to another school in the TDSB. Students enjoyed drumming together with their classmates and several classes were
fortunate to have a music class with Cuban Drummer Juaquin Nunez, while Ms. Pierce’s classes spent much of January
and February making music with Orff Instruments.

Eco Schools Update
Duke’s Eco Schools team has been extremely busy since the beginning of the year. We
received our Interim Platinum Audit. Among the highlights: the evaluators were impressed by
the many teachers and students from K - 8 who are involved in environmental literacy
projects. The interim audit tour showcased an impressive number of displays and evidence of
student learning.
World Water Day and Earth Hour
Staff and students used these two observances to discuss ways to reduce our carbon
footprint. Ms. Frost’s grade 7’s created art:
